Gotta love overclocking...on my old PC, I got my 6150SE (integrated POS card) to run CoD4 smoothly at 800x600...not that great, but considering the 6150SE is far below the minimum system requirments, I was happy.
I have a 8800GTS 640mb from nvidia and i am overclocking it but it just seems to go on and on i run test for an hour each time nothing not a artifact temps are around 76c in furmark i even played all of crysis in 1 day and temps reached only 69c and nothing.

@moosemaster666 I'd probably recommend that when you first start OCing if you're already knowledgeable about overclocking though the video is about safe overclocking so I stuck to keeping it simple and basic.

@budfiend4627 That sucks but you're not doomed to the crappiest possible cards. Go on Newegg and do an interface search (AGP or PCI-Express) and then set the memory interface to 128 bit. That alone will make a huge difference at such an insanely low price point. If the cards listed are within your range then search for memory type (e.g. GDDR2 versus GDDR3).
when i try to overclock i go to gpu and under clock speeds i click on custom but it wont increase becus it has only 0MHz does that mean i cant overclock my gpu?
Yea I have the same problem. Before, I had core clock values, shader clock values, etc. Also, I could let it pick the optimal overclock for my gpu. However, since I have downloaded the most recent firmware, I only have Core Clock and I cant change it. Anyone know why?
i need a little bit of help. i downloaded windows 7 but it was crap so i switched back to vista 32 and almost every thing got deleted somehow. i got back most of every thing but i cant get back my nvidia control panel. any one no what i could do?
@Mellowbuzz1974 8600 cards have 128 bit memory interface. To get the same bandwidth EFFECT of an OC of 1MHz on a 256 bit memory interface card (like 8800 cards) you have to OC by 2MHz. On a 64 bit memory interface you'd have to OC 4MHz per 1MHz.
Sold out at Newegg and probably insanely overpriced for too little performance. Either go for a Radeon 5xxx or the new Geforce series when it comes out in a month or two...but either way wait until nVidia releases their cards because the prices will drop. Also make sure if you want performance to get a video card with a memory interface of 256 bit (or greater). If you don't know how just do an advanced search on Newegg when you visit their video section.
@jabcreations Thanks man. I really appreciate the advise. Yep...performance is what I am looking for. Actually, I got this card from a friend of mine, and it was fine ( a couple years ago) but it's time for a serious GPU upgrade. Probably upgrade the motherboard too...
Socket AM3. You don't need 200FPS when your 60Hz (60Hz = 60GPS) will only show you, gasp! 60FPS! Intel fan boys don't grasp that. Get the maximum LONG term return from your investment: socket AM3. I get playable FPS and unlike Intel you don't have to buy a whole new motherboard with the SAME socket for a newer generation of CPU's. Socket 1156 won't get 6/8 core CPU's & socket 1366 is excessive.
yeah....those are really nice. I'm guessing that's what you are running? I know what you mean about the Intel fan boys....In the forums, that's all you hear about...."Intel this...Intel that"..blah blah blah
X3 720 BE, unlocked fourth core for the price of three and unlocked multiplier for great overclocking. Plus I can upgrade to six core CPU's later this year when they come out and eight next without having to buy anything else.
You failed to pay attention to the video as well as capitalize letters in your post. If you paid attention you would know you're not supposed to crank it all the way.
Unless you change voltage you should be safe. At worst your system will freeze or restart. It's when you start messing with voltages that you could physically damage components.
Did you verify the clock speeds via CPUz? I presume you mean that you also tried this via the bios? Please try to be more precise which will help me help you better.
what I did was, (in the control panel) changed it to custom and I started with the settings that was already there. and increased core, mem and shader with 2MHz and that message appeared when I tried to apply.
Check the card's temps, turn the fan up, update your drivers, and update nTune. If that doesn't help let me know what video card you have (e.g. 7900GT, 8800GTX).
Thx! BTW love your OC tutorial for CPUs. I managed to OC my Q6600 to 2.57 ghz (from 2.4) without any error, but I cant seem to get it over 2.6 without it freezing/bluescreen.
Thanks man. I'm not sure about Intel but with my older AMD system I shot this with I would have to drop something frmo 5X to 4X and then I could get past the 20MHz barrier you seem to be hitting. I looked online for screenshots and I can't find any. Feel free to message me a link with a screenshot of your nTune overclocking settings and I'll try to help further.
well my card is the geforce 8600 gt 256mb supports dx10 the default settings are
core: 540mhz
memory: 700mhz
shader: 1188 and when i try to over clock it by raising those values by 100 or less it gives me that message or even if i try to speed up the fan speed it won't let me do i needto change something in the bios?
hmm, when i overclock my GTS 250 it runs perfect in every game apart from Guild Wars. Which for some reason has random flashing colours on the screen, any ideas? :/
Haha, I have a Geforce 9800 GT, and its working fairly nice, hoping to get another one for my motherboard and bridge it with SLI here soon =]. I also like that the whole card is covered
In nTune you have to use "Adjust custom rules" page. It's a bit tricky at first but if you are patient you'll figure out how to over and down clock your GPU on startup, starting a game, etc.
when i was over clocking my GPU and i started to smell somting burning i freaked out and unpluged my pc i opened it up and started to fan it . it turns out my little bro cooking.!
my computer is old. I wanted to OC my CPU, for my first time using your other vid, so I couldent fins that option, instead I found the GPU so I tried the samething u did and my compter went to hell. When I restarted my computer and logged in everything was normal then the screen went like white/black flickering ? :S wtf lol.
I bakuped my comp.. I got an old computer, with NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 :P. and AMD Athlon XP 2600+, 2 GB RAM lol. So your "safe" OC doesnt work :(.
You're supposed to incrementally increase the clock speeds minimally by 1-3MHz as I instructed in the video, it's highly likely you jacked up the clocks too fast. Even when the 5000 series was brand new the 5200 was junk with only a 64-bit bus versus a 256-bit bus and uses GDDR1 instead of GDDR3. At this point it's less like you lost your mother and more like you lost the guy who let's his dog crap on your front door's doormat.
can u help me, at the ''adjust GPU'' option i dont have the deegrees thing under the clock option (bas and memory) i have it all grey and disabled, how do i get that i got nvidia 7025 nforce 630
Hmm? What overclocker who overclockers their GPU does NOT increase memory speed? Usually any card that's newish enough can get a good 100MHZ-200MHZ out of the memory. GPU RAM is not as sensitive as system RAM (I would never overclock system RAM :))
Oh wait, I was thinking this was the CPU video, my bad. Yeah if it's the GPU OC your RAM, but you don't want to generally do that with the CPU. True...RAM on a video card OC's much better then the GPU in my experience.
I also want to add that clock speed wont necessarily always increase temperature that much, the main culprit for higher temperatures is the voltage you set.
im not a professional but i have to say thats a really bad idea because #1 reason, it doesnt hav a fan and #2 its not meant to be overclocked so it could work but the lifetime it will have is questionable
Thank you for offering a suggestion. I may sound like a complete ass saying this, but if I cool it another way will that help it at all? (i.e. Using a night-stand fan) Because I was playing Oblivion on medium graphic settings, and I had put the fan near it, it had made it less laggy and stopped a very excruciating noise.
ya overheating is partially y games lag, if you look up what happens to GPUs and CPUs when their heatsink is removed bad things happen lol so ya i still wouldnt recommend it but you can try but you might as well always have the fan on it because it will always run faster the cooler it is :P
You can adjust color depth, 8bit = 256 colors, 16bit = 64K colors, 32bit = 16.7 million colors. nVidia's control panel will also let you adjust individual RGB channels (Red, Green, Blue) as well as gamma, contrast, and brightness. I recommend adjusting your monitor's settings so that the RGB is all set to 100% (unless the colors tear then reduce to about 92/100). A lot of people complain about brightness...color is not brightness so you can lower the brightness afterwards but see more color.
Only changing the voltage will damage equipment. The whole point of this video is if you tweak something wrong it will only simply restart the computer. So simply stay away from adjusting voltages.
but what about the colors green, yellow, and red? so say i make my setting like yours but the color turns yellow instead of green, will it not run as good or what does that mean?
I presume you're looking at NVMonitor? In general it's supposed to give you a vague understanding of how much you're stressing those particular parts of the system. Generally you're more green then it tells you though every system is subjective. I'm not sure if it correlates to voltage, stability of voltage, and or temperatures. I could research this if you'd like and see if I can find more details for you.
oh sorry. yes i am looking at NVMonitor. See the reason im even looking at these are because im looking at my processing speed (1.6GHz) and willing to try anything (that wont kill my stuff) to help it out. I have the video card your talking about and you said the defaults are 650 and 950, well mine are 600 and 900. im not sure if that matters or not to you. I dont think that it correlates to temperature because mine runs a good 50 degrees lower. It would be nice if you could find info for me.
Go to "Adjust GPU Settings" and OC the GPU and memory by 1 or 2MHz each and hit apply. I can OC the GPU to about 700MHz and the Memory to about 1020MHz if I can keep the card cool. The main issue is that I'm at this moment in time living in Florida so it's always 20F hotter here then the rest of the country. I miss the north and the cold! Any way if you OC too far your system will simply freeze/crash/reboot. As long as you don't tinker with voltages you're good! Also keep the fan speed up!
When i make my custom clock frequencies and hit apply it resets back to the factory shipped clock frequencies. I'm only adjusting it a little bit at a time. What should I do?
Im having the same problem as "Zanebrant" I cant slide the bar over to OC my GPU..... wait, my graphics card is integrated would that have any effect in overclocking ? xD
For some reason when I use ntune and try and OC my GPU it doesnt let me move the sliders, and it says 0mhz on the memory and the core clocks. How do I get it to work? please help!
Hey, JAB. I just realized I've been overclocking my GPUs with only 4pins in the 8pin EATX 12v CPU power connection on my MoBo. I get blue screen everytime I try to OC my CPU if my OC'd GPU profile is active.
If I got the 4pin to 8pin ATX adapter, would that be better for OC'ing my GPUs & CPU or it doesn't matter?
if i restart my pc everything goes back to normal ):

@55652546 See the Safe CPU overclocking video I made that has a link to the right under related videos.

i got the blue Screen of Death once i overclocked all the way and had to restart and reset values in bios and safe mode in windows
HKFLX4656 2 years ago
You failed to pay attention to the video as well as capitalize letters in your post. If you paid attention you would know you're not supposed to crank it all the way.
jabcreations 2 years ago
no i did this before i even watched this video
i was just sharing it so the next person to watch this video know what happens when you do it all the way
HKFLX4656 2 years ago
lol....what did you do, crank it all the way up??? You can't do that!
Mellowbuzz1974 2 years ago
Will this mess up my computer if I do something stupid or wrong?
jackpwnage117 2 years ago
Unless you change voltage you should be safe. At worst your system will freeze or restart. It's when you start messing with voltages that you could physically damage components.
jabcreations 2 years ago
i won't to fix my lag using nvidia is this the right video? im watching?
TiGeRHQ95 2 years ago
heya jab, I got this problem when I am going to apply the changes I made: "the changes you did were not valid and therefore they will not be applied."
I tried to change most stuff just 1MHz but still didnt work. It says something about BIOS
WishlordWow 2 years ago
Did you verify the clock speeds via CPUz? I presume you mean that you also tried this via the bios? Please try to be more precise which will help me help you better.
jabcreations 2 years ago
what I did was, (in the control panel) changed it to custom and I started with the settings that was already there. and increased core, mem and shader with 2MHz and that message appeared when I tried to apply.
WishlordWow 2 years ago
Check the card's temps, turn the fan up, update your drivers, and update nTune. If that doesn't help let me know what video card you have (e.g. 7900GT, 8800GTX).
jabcreations 2 years ago
Is this safe? I know barely anything about it and if I try to will it brake my comp?

Noob question incoming :)
When using my nvidia control panel I do not have an option to clock FSB, only core and memory.
I have a Geforce 7900 GTX for laptops(Go). Can that be the reason?
Thanks in advance!
TheSaltyAdmiral 2 years ago
To OC your CPU with an nVidia application you would need a motherboard with an nVidia northbridge.
Download CPUz, click "mainboard" tab, and if the chipset doesn't say 'nVidia' then you'll have to OC your CPU another way.
jabcreations 2 years ago
Holy crap, that was a fast reply! :D
Thanks alot, I will try that!

I have the GTX 295, when I look at the spec where I bought it from it says:
576 Core bus MHz
1.996 Memory speed
but on nvidia controll panel it says.
Core bus: 576
Memory bus 999
does that mean that my memory thing is 999 mhz? it says 1998 mhz in the description from where I bought.
Has it been underclocked to 999? or is memory speed something different to memory bus?
mpc12345678 2 years ago
GDDR = Graphics Double Data Rate.
Your memory runs at 999MHz and since it sends two bytes per cycle it's *effective* clock rate is 1,996MHz.
GDDR5 sends 4 bits per clock, so a 1GHz GDDR5 chip has an effective clock of 4GHz.
nVidia is unlikely to use GDDR4 as ATI was heavily involved in it's creation.
jabcreations 2 years ago
Thx! BTW love your OC tutorial for CPUs. I managed to OC my Q6600 to 2.57 ghz (from 2.4) without any error, but I cant seem to get it over 2.6 without it freezing/bluescreen.
mpc12345678 2 years ago
Thanks man. I'm not sure about Intel but with my older AMD system I shot this with I would have to drop something frmo 5X to 4X and then I could get past the 20MHz barrier you seem to be hitting. I looked online for screenshots and I can't find any. Feel free to message me a link with a screenshot of your nTune overclocking settings and I'll try to help further.

hey i need help i when i click apply it says changes made were invalid and won't be applied what do i do?
2346 2 years ago
Are you applying reasonable changes or are you cranking the clocks too high?
jabcreations 2 years ago
well my card is the geforce 8600 gt 256mb supports dx10 the default settings are
core: 540mhz
memory: 700mhz
shader: 1188 and when i try to over clock it by raising those values by 100 or less it gives me that message or even if i try to speed up the fan speed it won't let me do i needto change something in the bios?
2346 2 years ago
When i overclock my card do i have to leave the fan on 100% allways?
L337CSSHACKER 2 years ago
hmm, when i overclock my GTS 250 it runs perfect in every game apart from Guild Wars. Which for some reason has random flashing colours on the screen, any ideas? :/

Haha, I have a Geforce 9800 GT, and its working fairly nice, hoping to get another one for my motherboard and bridge it with SLI here soon =]. I also like that the whole card is covered

My settings keep resetting to the default values after I reboot my computer. Any ideas why this is happening?
6stringplaya77 2 years ago
In nTune you have to use "Adjust custom rules" page. It's a bit tricky at first but if you are patient you'll figure out how to over and down clock your GPU on startup, starting a game, etc.
jabcreations 2 years ago
appreciate your help :)

What version of driver do you have??

I don't have

You have to DOWNLOAD nTune manually, it is *NOT* included with the drivers (even though the drivers are like 70 megabytes or more.

my computer is old.
So your "safe" OC doesnt work :(.
legenden101 2 years ago

Is a 8800gt...
CORE CLOCK: 800
Shader Clock: 1800
Memory Clock: 1000x2 (2GHZ)| (DDR3)
is this good? Also at 45 Degrees idle, and 64 when running GTA IV/World of Warcraft

Can you raise the shader speed in the Nvidia Control Panel?
Jammowns 2 years ago
if you put up the core to its maximum, then inscrease the memory a good few mhz, will the core clock then be able to go up more at all?
ithinksasukeiscool 3 years ago
No, in general you don't WANT to increase the memory speed.
jabcreations 3 years ago
ah i see, thanks for the fast reply.
I just overclocked my 2 8800gtx's and i gained about 5-7 fps in crysis :) thanks for the video it helped alot
ithinksasukeiscool 3 years ago
Hmm? What overclocker who overclockers their GPU does NOT increase memory speed? Usually any card that's newish enough can get a good 100MHZ-200MHZ out of the memory. GPU RAM is not as sensitive as system RAM (I would never overclock system RAM :))
AoDTheAnonymousPH 3 years ago
Oh wait, I was thinking this was the CPU video, my bad. Yeah if it's the GPU OC your RAM, but you don't want to generally do that with the CPU. True...RAM on a video card OC's much better then the GPU in my experience.

Ive tried to overclock the core But when i watched the nvmonitor i couldnt see any difference in temparature
Could someone tell me whats happening?
crazyassassinguy98 3 years ago
Load is the main factor for temperature, not frequency.
jabcreations 3 years ago
So if i try to play a game (with high settings) the temparature would raise?
crazyassassinguy98 3 years ago
The more load the higher the temperatures gets per component.
jabcreations 3 years ago
I also want to add that clock speed wont necessarily always increase temperature that much, the main culprit for higher temperatures is the voltage you set.

I have an integrated 6150 LE chipset. I was just wondering how far I could actually push it to it's limit. Do you have any suggestions?
GmanplzThe2nd 3 years ago
im not a professional but i have to say thats a really bad idea because #1 reason, it doesnt hav a fan and #2 its not meant to be overclocked so it could work but the lifetime it will have is questionable
chidster64 3 years ago
Thank you for offering a suggestion. I may sound like a complete ass saying this, but if I cool it another way will that help it at all? (i.e. Using a night-stand fan) Because I was playing Oblivion on medium graphic settings, and I had put the fan near it, it had made it less laggy and stopped a very excruciating noise.
GmanplzThe2nd 3 years ago
ya overheating is partially y games lag, if you look up what happens to GPUs and CPUs when their heatsink is removed bad things happen lol so ya i still wouldnt recommend it but you can try but you might as well always have the fan on it because it will always run faster the cooler it is :P

ok thank you

hoiitsben1 3 years ago
oh one thing you didnt cover was the colors. what do the colors mean?
Punkgi1 3 years ago
You can adjust color depth, 8bit = 256 colors, 16bit = 64K colors, 32bit = 16.7 million colors. nVidia's control panel will also let you adjust individual RGB channels (Red, Green, Blue) as well as gamma, contrast, and brightness. I recommend adjusting your monitor's settings so that the RGB is all set to 100% (unless the colors tear then reduce to about 92/100). A lot of people complain about brightness...color is not brightness so you can lower the brightness afterwards but see more color.
jabcreations 3 years ago
will this hurt the video card?
Punkgi1 3 years ago
Only changing the voltage will damage equipment. The whole point of this video is if you tweak something wrong it will only simply restart the computer. So simply stay away from adjusting voltages.
jabcreations 3 years ago
but what about the colors green, yellow, and red? so say i make my setting like yours but the color turns yellow instead of green, will it not run as good or what does that mean?
Punkgi1 3 years ago
I presume you're looking at NVMonitor? In general it's supposed to give you a vague understanding of how much you're stressing those particular parts of the system. Generally you're more green then it tells you though every system is subjective. I'm not sure if it correlates to voltage, stability of voltage, and or temperatures. I could research this if you'd like and see if I can find more details for you.
jabcreations 3 years ago
oh sorry. yes i am looking at NVMonitor.
Punkgi1 3 years ago
mine runs a good 50 degrees lower than your does.
Punkgi1 3 years ago
Go to "Adjust GPU Settings" and OC the GPU and memory by 1 or 2MHz each and hit apply. I can OC the GPU to about 700MHz and the Memory to about 1020MHz if I can keep the card cool. The main issue is that I'm at this moment in time living in Florida so it's always 20F hotter here then the rest of the country. I miss the north and the cold! Any way if you OC too far your system will simply freeze/crash/reboot. As long as you don't tinker with voltages you're good! Also keep the fan speed up!
jabcreations 3 years ago
When i make my custom clock frequencies and hit apply it resets back to the factory shipped clock frequencies. I'm only adjusting it a little bit at a time. What should I do?
Imperius41 3 years ago
I'd take that question to the nVidia forums.

Theoreticaly, you could OC your CPU and get better grephics card performance since it runs off of the cpu.

For some reason when I use ntune and try and OC my GPU it doesnt let me move the sliders, and it says 0mhz on the memory and the core clocks. How do I get it to work? please help!
zanebrant 3 years ago
