If you want television to be of higher standard we need a majority of people to be literate, for when one is literate it is more possible to appreciate fine things. If people can't read great poetry they won't be familiar with it or classical music or other great art forms. Also, a young person who cannot read or write properly is more likely to make bad choices and turn to crime or other destructive pursuits. It won't necessarily happen, but is more likely.
Whatever happened to culture? Seems civilization is deteriorating. Television in its infancy had something good to offer; it is just mostly trash now. These were the "good old days" of television. Thanks to youtube, we can relive them.
There has never been another man like Orson Welles. He's like a tragic hero -- his vision wandered so far afield from the popular dollar that he couldn't focus in on projects that would see fruition. He was so talented.
