0:48 - 1:20 is where the real detective feel of this version of the song comes in.
I heard Davis Films (producers of Resident Evil) acquired the rights for Golgo 13. This should be one of the soundtrack songs, if not the main theme. Especially 0:22- 1:20
Why does this have more views than the Todd Rundgren original. Granted, they're both awesome and I like this version better, but they should be on equal footing. Come on, people!
Great to hear a guitarist like Paul Gilbert giving Todd Rundgren with this wonderful version of "Blue Orpheus". I remember being pissed off when first hearing this album of Todd's, and a week later it being one of my favorites...
really dig this one, but I've been a rundgren fan since way back (would kinda like to hear todd's vocals over it ). Has a lot of feeling...and not a bit of shred on the whole thing. Great road tune.
Anyone else totally getting a Satch vibe off this track? I know its a cover but... this whole album is just terrific. Satch and Gilbert have always been my favs and now its like theyre meshing togethor!
@DaddySoulDonut i always felt like this song would be the brain child of a buckethead/macalpine collaboration. but yeah, after listening to it, it definitely makes me think of satch as well.
in parts it sounds quite like echo song, but the rest of the album is asoultely amazing, his ultra new ultra clean style of playing is truly awesome and im always impressed how he keeps getting these new sounds out of a guitar :)
Paul gets plenty of respect for being a shredder of universal proportions. However, I'm finding that I'm falling for him more and more for his creativity. Solos aside, the man is one of the best rhythm guitarists ever. He is a riff machine. 20+ albums later he's still keeping it fresh as well as having more fun than anyone else in the biz. Much respect. Long live the Paul.
@josiahgust because of Paul, I think is harder to create riffs than solos, but when you create a riff completely new and never-done-before (out of pentatonic), the self-satisfaction sensation is awesome!
@josiahgust I'm sure you've already gotten tons of replies to this... but you pointed out something I didn't even think to put my finger on. He really is a riff monster. Not to mention his playing style is impeccably clean. Maybe his expertise in this comes from his time with Mr. Big. I guess being a crazily good guitarist and needing to play within the confines of a band enabled him to really get good with riffs.
@RWMunchkin12788 I think he was already there to some degree, but being in MR BIG definitely opened him up a lot more than Racer X. I believe the way it was put on their myspace years ago was "We are a band of shredders who understand the importance of songcraft" I can't think of a better way to put it.
