@BulletOnABiscuit No, locking the ipod is okay, just don't turn it off. If your not using it keep it locked, and when turn it off before you go to bed or something, then boot it up in the morning with your PC.

After I get into DFU mode Redsn0w starts the normal proess but I don't get the downloading matrix part....my screen just stays black.
