i can't believe he cites popper. popper was a mediocre philosopher and especially poor as a political/social one. hedges is even more foolish. good chris, you don't own a tv. his cultural criticism here is, to be frank, worse than meaningless. Here's some advice occupiers: don't listen to chris hedges (or karl popper). read someone else, anyone else. adorno, stirner, virilio, fourier. anyone. this man is not a philosopher and he's barely a thinker of any kind.liberalism PER SE has failed chris

Chris should be a role model for our politicans... it's so refreshing to hear intelligent, meaningful, and powerful messages.
Chris is someone I would vote for, in a new goverment... why can't we get people like Chris to stand in elections?
The American people need to stop falling for bullshit experts aka politicans, and realize that the true representatives are people with the ability to think at higher levels... people like Chris, and the geniune world class engineers...
9:18 He has enough intelligence to see this much with clarity - at least as a problem. His problem is that he doesn't understand how it is a problem. What defines a corporation Mr. Hedges? Government endorsement of a legal structure to a business.
10:44 - The biggest lie yet. China's totalitarian capitalism? Are you people out of your minds listening to this guy? He acknowledges that China doesn't even pay wages in many cases - That's absolute communism you stupid twits!

3:40 He starts saying "Don't listen to those with ideas different from your own. Shove your ostrich head in the sand while you stand on the front lines. And if you do anything, read only books that will reinforce what you believe."
The desire for collectivism stems from a desire to shirk personal accountability. Not willing to take a position of "power" at all is related to this. There is a difference between being reluctant taking a leadership position as the higher the rank of leadership the greater the burden of responsibility and accountability. That's in systems that value individual liberty. To collectivists though, higher rank simply translates into more power.
the protesters are peacefull. the police are out of control. i think the protesters should go into under cover mode. destroy the banks don't do business with them. the banks make no money from me no more.
This is NOT the time for violence of any kind for any reason. As Hedges mentions later in the interview, the opposition wants to see violence because that's what they understand. I love the part where he says with regard to the non-violent rebellion underway, something along the line of "They don't understand it, they can't cope with it, it drives them bat shit." You have every reason to suspect that ANYONE who promotes violence is an infiltrator.
He needs to submit to a flash of optimism and acknowledge that the system is not so completely broken with a politician like Paul causing a revolution of consciousness.
Ok I heard the whole interview...and the rest of his analysis is dead on. It's just his analysis of resistance strategy and tactics that's idiotic. All real movements are at least a little violent. Even the Civil Rights movement was violent. And also, they have to be aimed at usurping FORMAL political power. That is the only thing that will make the elites stand up and take notice.
What a stupid set of ideas. If you don't threaten to take power how are you going to "pressure a power elite"? They won't take you seriously. Popper was an idiot.
@Pharoah7400 Catherine Austin Fitts has the best solution. Shun them. Get your money out of the Big Banks. Set up or join barter societies in your local neighborhood. Whenever possible, do not buy Big Corporate Products and buy local. You can often find better products at lower prices.
Pay attention to local governments, especially the county sheriff position. Don't waste your time and energy in the national scene.
@Pharoah7400 And most important. Stand in the place where you live. Don't be afraid of your peers. Don't be a jerk, but be firm. You will find that people are sympathetic more often than not. They are just scared. You can show them that there is no need to be afraid.
You see how he thinks before he talks? This is unfortunately unusual and very impressive. He is brilliant. Not only does he process input and his output before giving it, but he has no doubt spent a lifetime of quality thinking, processing, and healing to come to such brilliance, and he will never stop. Take note of this, learn, grow with him and everybody. This is how we maintain peace and sanity. Love.
hitting on all the points, here, and doing so, excellently - going deep & covering a lot, here. Very insightful interview - worth watching multiple times......and taking notes while doing so...
This is not a Revolution at All! This is a rebellion against a pernicious moneyed minority. This movement is a 'conservative movement of reclamation" it has nothing at all to do with tearing down the existing order or establishment, and everything to do with restoring the founding documents and the rights still on the parchment... these are being usurped by the corporate oligarchs and Chris Hedges, if that is the guy above here, is only a modern voice of Thomas Paine, or Patrick Henry....
Well, before ya decide to overthrow the capitalist oppressors, you should decide what you're gonna call it, I guess. It's important to make that distinction between "revolutionaries" and "rebels" or whatever it is there. Linguistically, it means a lot when I think about it too, reading to myself down in the library. Keep your contributions coming to Columbia University Department of Political Science. It's very empowering, you commie chump.
truth is "revolution" usually gives rise to a period of inequity & unbalance. The 60s much of the change achieve was more like Mutation instigated by rebels than revolution. The powers that be stayed more or less the same, but they recognised a new set of rules for how the people wanted them to act on their behalf. @OubaDubaTuba if we have revolution now what will come out of it is a fractured state & decades of reconstruction. By rebellion and mutation we can change directions much faster.
Case in point immense amount of change would happen if you rob corporations of person status and make them abide by the laws. @OubaDubaTuba This is not really out of reach of some hard core rebellion and mutation. but if you fracture the state, there are no laws to govern corporations. you would have a free for all with well funded corporates taking significant pieces of pie. This would be a fail.
You need the state to counter act the corporates. without them we have less power.
the americans don't know how to do it .they need to rush in and go plow the police over there is more of the people than police . they are stupid they let each other get arrested they can rush the police and grab and save person being arrested they seem unorganized and have no plan of action too scared and weak .they are not mentally prepared.
This guy would make an excellent politician, he swerves around all questions, and does not actually answer a single one...

I, for one, despise some of Ron Paul's ideas, but given the opportunity to vote for him or Obama, it would be Ron Paul!
I would much rather temporarily live under lasse fair capitalism, whilst dismantling the corporate fascist state, then continue on the path we're on!
Even Ralph Nader agrees that Paul would be a better alternative then Obama!
