  • TOO MUCH SOUL!!!!

  • Might be the best video on youtbe...

  • I don't really care for the chorus but the story I luv just losses the chorus

  • pure fuck talent

  • oooooh yeaahh fuck fuck fuck fuck .this video is perfect perfect perfect perfect perfect.

    thank u man

  • good, but James Brown is brilliant,,,,,,,,,,,

  • NO ONE can do this better than Lloyd did it. In my opinion .

  • In my opinion, music virtually DIED in 1975.

  • Gotta love WP's unique sense of rhythm. ;>)

  • @bobbya51

lol Gotta agree with you there... Well, at least in this video! o_0

  • NIce tune, I like the Isley Bros later version done as PG&E .

Also dig the pistol pulled out at [1:20] very unPC Thanks for sharing

  • @l87kmps That must not have been in the U.S and damn sure wasn't South of the Mason-Dixon line cause brother be lynched for that shit!!

  • Aaliyah Studio Cover Version: Let me down easy (Isley Brothers)

    .

    /watch?v=SR1eL8XH71Y

    ..enjoy

  • ... Untergrundmusik !?

  • I love this song, though I always thought it was Downchild. Though it's real hard to find any information on music made before the '60s. Especially Soul, Rhythm & Blues and Blues.

  • I love Lloyd Price's version! The Isley Brothers had their own version and this is good too. Ron Isley is alright with me anytime.

  • Aww man I shot Billy in the face...

  • Wow i never knew the Isley Bros covered Stagger Lee. What Nick Cave later did is damn near pure genius but probably proves @Iagree2nuthin's point. BTW @Iagree2nuthin, sci news this week is that all non-Africans are part descended from neanderthals. Discuss.

  • I like how they're lip synching and acting out the song at the same time!

    Klassy with a "K"!!!

  • At 1:22, you cant do that on stage anymore. Stagger Lee, what a great dancing song. I heard this song on my local radio station and started to dance to it. Timeless.

  • has anybody herd the version by tim hardin its very dark and very good its on the albun .this is tim hardin

  • No kidding! This is amazing.

  • if a new group came around and did this live on national tv as a new song it would take over all radio stations in a matter of days. today's pop music is ripe for a takeover by something better.

  • "Today's pop music is ripe for a takeover by something better..."

    SO TRUE!

  • Check out toihorn2 she as something for you.

  • If that's the case then they should listen to the original version this can't touch the one done by Lloyd Price!!!!!!!!!!

  • @BHBrother87 Yeah, if they had good sound. This is rough, pity....

  • Whatever the negative comments, this got my feet tappin!

  • It seems after about 1967 people forgot that Rock n Roll was dance music. We need bands today that play rock that people can dance like this too that's not just some disco/electronica but real rock....also more cute mod girls.

  • You are so right! I love watching old clips from RSG, American Bandstand, Hullabaloo, Shindig, Shivaree, Hollywood a Go-Go and so many other shows of that era because they showed so much cool dancing to Rock 'n Roll. Rock is definitely dance music.

    :-)

  • canes72us

    LLOYD PRICE

  • With regards to Wilbert Harrison....

-Isley Bros have best vocal cover

-Wilson Pickett has best musical cover

    -Dead cover is Wonder Bread.

  • Now these guys could rock!

  • This song was used in the film Shag

  • Its nice but even the Isley's can't touch the original!!!!!!!!!!

  • By the way Pithecantropus I dig the outdated evolutionary reference. Didn't George Jackson make some comment in a prison letter that whitey was descended from this cave man? Or was that a stoned hallucination from a loooong time ago?

  • Hey Pithecanthropus- I agree whitey can't exactly swing. Not to be eurocentric- but whitey is better at melody then rhythm. Only Nirvana or the Animals could cover Lead Belly by slowin him down, playin in minor key and holding out every note like there lives depended on it. I guess whitey's way ofswinging is by soundin like death is upon him. Or it 's those long barnyard shrieks sung to lil sycopation.

  • yeah Mitch Mitchell didnt swing did he? Jimi was from another planet in terms of rhythm but Mitch made the swing even better. You tellin me Buddy Rich, Jaco couldnt swing either? silly argument. youeither can or you cant wherever you're from.

  • WOW - love it !!!

  • The Isleys are the cream of the crop as far as I'm concerned, and I love this performance. But can anyone tell me what group was on just before them?

  • what year are you people living in ??????

  • Damn, those mod girls were attractive.

  • Why the fuck does everyone have to bring race into it? It's A great song and the people are havin a good time...

  • Notice the only people people in there are the singers. Everyone else is white.

  • Its because there isnt very many black people in london.

  • Actually there are, and there were quite a few back then - a lot of immigrants from the west indies, carribbean, etc.

  • Yeah, Brixton is the best example of a black ghetto in London.

  • yeah, but it's interesting still. As a white musician, I have to agree with the old jazz or blues legend who said no white player would swing except on a rope. Dammit! but it's true. Old the white rockers form the same era, when they jump around, look llike they have spasmic disorders. The black guys all know how to flow with the beat. Even with someone like Chuck Berry--his version have a lot more sing than white bands' covers.

  • To clarify my point, it's not that I don't think white musicians aren't good, it's just that what we do is something different from -- swinging. White R&R is mostly straight-on-the-track, four-on-the-floor (if I may mix my metafors), pedal to the metal drive. The beats are evened out so it's more mechanical sounding. Black musicians and singers' music usually has this swaying or rolling quality I have yet to hear from any others.

  • They are genetically programmed, from beating on their drums in Mother Africa.

  • @Pithecanthropus2483 Listen to some early Bing Crosby. His phrasing was something else.

  • @strandwolf I haven't yet but he's on my list. Bing singing "That's Jazz" in the musical remake of "The Philadelphia Story" was ridiculous to me since I'd always thought he was just a crooner, but I've learned, since, that he started out doing serious jazz, a lot like Nat. Vocalists often have veered towards the pop side when they got the bigger record deals.

  • You're full of it. Check out P. J. Proby's version of Stagger Lee. Then kindly rethink your stance.

  • Ho, ho, ho, you funny man!

I did check out a recent live clip of P.J. Proby. He is good in its own way, but dude. That cat couldn't swing on a playground swingset. I'm not saying he isn't good, just that I don't call that swinging.

  • so funny how these white girls move

  • lol well u also right

  • at least those "bkack guys" move with rhythm to the beat. Poor white kids can't find the beat to save their lives.

  • Yea true story about Stagger Lee, look him up. LOL the white folks dancing to it

  • It's all good . . .

    :-)

  • Umm, no mics? Anyone care to explain?

  • very well sung a great job u r the best

  • And they didn't pay that any mind. They were coolest man. Just having a good time, someboby lying about those days.

  • he pulled out a gun around all those white folks ha ha ha ha ha ha

  • JUST BRILLIANT .

  • One of the things that I loved about these guys is that they could take "any" song and make it their own. Even when they don't record, their music is still heard thanks to "other" artists. Shout was covered by everyone by The Beatles, Shangri-Las, & Lulu. Twist & Shout became a hit for The Beatles. Their music has been used to sell everything from Glasses, Detergent, and Shampoo, and Whitney Houston & Joss Stone still keep their legacy alive with their interpretations of their songs.

  • You said the right word - - "legacy." The Isley Bros. are truly legendary and their music will live on forever.

    Thanks for the commentary!

  • Thank you thank you for posting

  • Many thanks

    :-)

  • What a party! I like all those English birds dancing in front of the stage.

  • They were awesome!!!

  • ROCKIN"!!!!!

  • You are so right!!

  • i can't believe he pulled the 44...

  • ultracool

  • uh-oh... Mr Biggs was alway's gansta. LOL.

  • Great performance by both the Isleys and the Mods. What taste they had.

  • I love this.

  • this is F***ing awesome, i can't get tired of listening to this.

  • I agree - - a super performance!

  • When was this?

  • Thanks for posting. Very enjoyable! The Isley Brothers can sing ANYTHING! Many didn't know they had a band that crossed genres too. Yes the pistol was really funny. Voice still great.

  • You can see that the British teens really got into the Isley's sound. They remain of America's greatest groups of all time.

    Thanks for watching! :-)

  • I'm loving this and keep cracking up at Ron Isley pulling that gun out...Mr. Biggs in training...LOL

  • WOW!!!!! I'm thankful and overwhelmed at the sight of this video.

  • Thanks! Cool video!

    :-)

  • Great version.

I seem to recall there being a bit of an outcry about the singer pulling the gun out.. but then again, that was the UK in the early 60's.

Sure wish there was more Ready Steady Go footage available; there were some classic performances on Fridays.

    Thanks for the upload.

  • I absolutely agree about RSG - - that was an amazing show. I also wish there were copies of every episode that aired back in the 60's.

  • Fantastic version of "Stagger Lee", only second to the one of James Brown (which I can't find on youtube).

    Thanks for the uploading!!!

  • Many thanks, yes it's a real eye opener!!

  • Bloody Hell....*Ready Steady Go*..must be Friday night..this brings back memories !!

  • awesome version...great vid, thanks for putting it up.

  • Pure magic.

  • Wonderful!!! 'Stagger Lee' is from a real event. It's called a 'murder ballad' style of songwriting. Ron Isley does a GREAT job on an already old classic!!!

  • mat thx sooooo much this iz my bands next cover all my love ----------slick rhoades
