  • Oh Yeah! So glad I found this! This 14 year old has found the greatest Swing he ever thought could be. So glad ya posted this ma man.

  • RIP Sid Cooper

  • The best type of Jazz... by far! Been listening to it since I was a kid (in cartoons), and will listen to it till the day I die.

  • they called paul the vice president i see why. tony scott the king of swingin' bop. this post is a great definition of what swing is

  • Who had that ripping clarinet solo towards the beginning?

  • @JLWing77 The great Tony Scott

  • @JazzVideoGuy have you got any tony scott video of him playing baritone?

  • @mpcguy Wish I did!

  • no banjo?

  • The original title of the tune was "Blue Balls." It was changed to "One O-Clock Jump" during a live broadcast by the Basie band.

  • Bennie Morton on trombone & Buck Clayton on trumpet!

  • Bennie Morton on trombone!

  • No Neck Strap on Ben Webster?

  • @kayaks41 That's Paul Quinichette. Ben Webster is sitting closest to the piano and doesn't solo. It certainly looks like PQ isn't wearing a neck strap, but it's visible when you see him in profile.

  • Thank you for this one! So great to see and hear all the wonderful musicians in this. I go through you tube seeking jazz greats. This was perfect!

  • Notice Carl 'Doc' Severinsen of Johnny Carson fame sitting in the middle of the trumpeters, looking like a CPA.

  • Billy Taylor on piano

  • I love this. Ben is from the Coleman Hawkins school and Paul Quinichette is from the Lester Young school. It's like another Prez and Hawk combo on stage. Both top notch players.

  • Wonderfull: listen to Eddie Safransky on double bass!

    A lot of thanks

  • Frank Rosalino in trombone section

  • The glissandi starting at 3:00 are wonderfull.

  • awebo¡¡ esa es música autentica.

  • i guess that's PQ on the first tenor solo? don't look or sound like Ben. can't believe they didn't have some tenors trading phrases ... great vid though. Thanks!

  • @danmcb ben webster is the first from the left. check the credits.

  • this is what you call it as real genuine jazz ..............

  • They used to call Dflat Hoss flat back in the day, lol. My sax teacher told me because Frank Foster's nickname was Hoss, but I dunno if that's how the name came about. Hoss flat was "the key" to play in in any blues chart. I.E. Thing's Ain't What They Used To Be, One 'O Clock Jump, and pretty much any other blues played by big bands. The other common key was F.

  • talk about an Ellington influence on the piano...

  • Actually it's a Basie influence.

  • and pure Basie at 2:40 ...

  • My father has a old album-Quinichette and Coltrane together. Simply good real jazz. A lot better than this "smooth jazz" thats out today.

  • Much Appreciated.

  • Just been listening to the other versions of this song, and sorry they dont touch this one.

  • Is it possible to buy this song?

  • Sounds better than any new cats. That's a fact.

  • Tune is One O'Clock Jump and is very close to original Basie version of 1930s:

1st two choruses in F (piano) and then into Db for rest.

  • Man I just love YouTube, it just gives me so many new avenues to explore in Lifes vast cosmos.

    Music is bloody brillant

  • late 50s and paul is still on Lester!!!

  • and why not

  • This song rocks my socks!

  • truthinmusic says...this is the real good stuff here!

  • Ed Thigpen on drums but who is on bass?

  • Ed Safranski

  • Who's the clarinetist ?

  • Tony Scott on clarinet. niiice.

  • yes i agree...clarinetist is good.

  • @c4rv3r tony scott

  • Didja notice Doc Severinsen?

  • Wow! - sure enough, Carl "Doc" Severinsen and most definately Ben Webster doing a televised studio gig! Great video!!!

  • magnifico!! que ritmo

  • How come Buck Clayton doesn't get in the title?

    You'll be hearing from me.

    ~Buck's Agent

  • i love how paul's influence is completely 100% lester young, even with the funny sax holding!!

  • haha, i noticed that too. i was thinkin the same thing.

  • Fantastique jazz
