Someday is a lovely song, but it didn't really fit the moment. In the stage musical it fits perfectly in the moment and it's one of the strongest numbers.
I do prefer "God Help the Outcasts", but seeing this makes me like "Someday" more. It didn't seem to fit at all with the pop version even though I like All-4-One. I didn't mind the happy ending in the movie. I guess the stage production is more similar to the book, but that ending was very sad and disturbing.
While I agree that it works better as a humbling moment in the context of the movie, this version of the scene is still beautiful. Now WHEN are they going to release an American 2-disc DVD with the deleted scenes and tons of other stuff?? The 10th anniversary came and went, the 15th anniversary came and went - how long do we have to wait???
I like the decision made by the directors. Someday wasn't right for the moment and was a much better ending song. God Help the Outcasts fitted Esmeralda's plight in that scene perfectly, whereas Someday represented the coming of a better day after the movie.
This song is nice, but God help the Outcast in better in the show. Someday is a rather hopeful song, and Esmeralda is feeling rather sad at the moment
@Queerlioness MUCH LIKE I HAVE ALWAYS SAID ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR MOVIE. NICELY SAID. GOD HELP THE OUT CASTS WAS MUCH MORE FITTING BECAUSE IT WAS MORE OF A PLEA FOR HELP.
Asmerelda is my absolute fav. disney character, Megara is a close second. however Asmerelda sacrifices everything for the purpose of making life good for all and she even risks her life for quasie before she even knew him solely for the purpose of it being the right thing to do. then later in the movie after he rescues her she risks her life for him again by trying to pull him back in from the ledge of a balcony that Frollo was gonna kill them both on.
I definitely like this, the original, version better than the pop version that is on the CD, but I'd have to say that "God Help The Outcasts" is a bit more fitting for the situation Esmeralda is in in this scene, as well as the theme of the movie. But, they're both good songs. I just can't stand the pop version by All-4-One . . . ^_^;
@Moyayuhi I actually agree Heidi doe's this song better justice but 'Someday" does seem to have hope and I feel since she's praying and in all intents and purposes 'God help the outcast' seems like a prayer because she had little hope and she was asking for something to look forward to.
I honestly can't decide which one I prefer, both God Help the Outcasts and Someday are beautiful songs, but I agree that GHtO fits a little better with the movie.
i think 'someday' is more tragically heartfelt... like my heart tugged at her plea
but i also think they were right to keep 'God help the outcasts' b/c it sounded more like a prayer and it was more powerful and it just FIT u no? lol i couldnt imagine anything else but that being there..
I would have to respectfully disagree it gave me the feeling like she had hope that someday things will be different, and Gold Help the Outcasts sounded like a plea to god in my own opinion but either way they are both just georgous songs
thx for not freakn out like some ppl would if they disagreed and so i completely respect your opinions! i also agree that both songs are so so beautiful
np lolz I thinks it's retarded and so immature to write a long rant out of anger . when I read those all people r like arrrgg... this is a waste of time. but when I read that all i think is then why waste more time being angry for stupid reasons lolz.
I heard this on youtube one day, and I knew it wasn't actually in the film, so I got really confused...
Then I finally realised where I'd heard it.
It's actually heard as a background score throughout some parts of the movie...and the credits, of course. But I'm so glad I found it. its really lovely =]
Because it was a deleted song I guess and maybe people don't feel like ripping it. And Disney doesn't want to give the US and Canada a special edition DVD with all the cool special features like this one. This WOULD be awesome to have on my iPod, but I'm okay with the All-4-One version.
would have been so beautiful if she sang the song and then he drops some of the candle holders so she hears him and says: Wait. where are you going? and she follows him and they fell in love.
I like the song, but in my opinion, while "God Help The Outcasts" shows Esmerelda as a selfless crusader, while "Someday" paints her as rather selfish.
i completely disagree, the song basically is esmerelda praying someday her fight for equal rigts for her ppl will be over and she will be free to be herself without being persecuted for witch craft etc
i agree god help the outcast always makes me cry when i see it especially at the part where she says "I ask for nothing, I can get by..." after all the other people asked for very selfish things like for wealth, love and for god to bless THEM
this song is truly beautiful and powerful!!! I too would have loved to see its finished version. if only they finished all 3 deleted songs, the storyboards are really beautiful, but a finished version would have been priceless. The orchestration exactly in the beginning where she says "in your house of peace and beauty" really gave me goosebumps!! the message of the song is truly powerful. 2 thumbs up to Alan Menken and the artists!
The pop version of this song plays during the credits and is sung by All 4 One. Excerpts of the music can also be heard throughout the movie at key points.
Yeah, it's weird it wasn't technically in the film in it's completed form, but now that I've heard it I can pick up where it is in the score when I watch the movie... lovely :)
The best songs from the old Disney movies were the credit songs. This one, "If I never knew you" from Pochahontas, and I love "True to your Heart" from Mulan.
mmmm....that is pretty. I'm glad Someday was expanded into the whole song that was sung by Celtic Woman (I wasn't a fan of the ending credits version of it from this movie). It's a good song to listen to over and over. I love singing along :D.
um.. but this WAS animated... when i was little i used to watch it all the time.. and "Someday" was my favorite song.. lol.. so i know they animated it.. Im confused now. But i watched it in spanish, so idk if thats the reason..
um i think your talking about god help the outcast's though i swear i`ve heard this song before?and no i know the titles are this song but it isn`t that!lol
It's in the German musical, Der Glockner Von Notre Dame, which is being re-vamped for the American stage. I think it's used after Frollo captures all the gypsies in the Court of Miracles (I haven't seen the show).
You know, I kind of appreciate that they tried to make it more like the book, but if it is ever brought to America, which I heard it might be, I kind of want it to stay like the movie.
@esmeraldagirlxxa I love ur youtube account name :) but I'm afraid I have to disagree with the comment.... I believe they're both equally beautiful. but however God Help the Outcasts meant more to the story.... it fit in better I think.
this song is awesome! it is very beautiful but, i think it would have been better that essie sings a prayer more than an anthem. =) very beautiful song
Every now and then, a creative genius wakes up at Disney and produces a real winner like "Hunchback of Notre Dame". Disney movies have been good for the most part, but "Hunchback" was simply awesome! Great music and script. Too bad they couldn't find a place for "Someday" in the film.
This is a beautiful song, but I do think God Help the Outcasts fit better in the cathedral, whereas Someday would have been perfect if they had a scene in the film where she sings in the dungeon. Or if she sang it while on top of the cathedral with Quasi just before they climb down. I like this version MUCH better than one on the soundtrack (90's pop music.....eeeeeew).
This is a gorgeous song, but God Help the Outcasts worked and fit so much better for the moment. I think Someday/Einmal works *perfect* for how they used in the German stage production - she starts singing it while in the dungeons, Phoebus and the choir join her, and it continues as she is led into the town and tied to the stake. There, it is the huge powerful ballad it is supposed to be. I can't imagine someone belting out Someday in a church, while GHTO is a softer, more somber song.
As much as I love God Help the Outcasts, this is much more intense and goosebump-inducing.
They use it in the German stage adaptation of the movie, and the choir reprises it when Esmeralda dies (instead of surviving, she wakes up for a few minutes when Quasi is with her after the sanctuary scene, and then she dies), and it's absolutely amazing.
Yeah, I prefer the much happier ending to the original movie (in which Esmeralda survives and is free to pursue a relationship with Phoebues once Frollo is gone) myself.
No, she doesn't. The German stage version was loosely based on the Disney movie. Basically, they only used the songs. The story they used was a lot darker.
I stumbled across this song while looking up Heidi Mollenhauer and I recognize this song, it's sung by Celtic Woman's Chloe Agnew -- Ironic how the song that was cut out of the film yet made it's way out there into the world.
yeah that was the version I heard first too. But I also have a more upbeat version sung by Donna Summer...Was this used as an ending theme to the movie? It's been so long I don't remember. It just seems weird that the song got out there without being used at all in the movie.
That clip was beautiful. I wish they animated it ^_^
I love this song ... but I think the director made the right choice. "God Helps The Outcast" convey much more despair - especially Esmeralda's last few words in the song "God Helps the Outcast": "... God help the outcasts, Children of God." The way the last note lingered just fits for me. The song "Someday" has a despair tone in it but not as much as "God Helps The Outcast"
I really like this version of the song. I don't think it was to over the top for the movie. I think it was perfect because it not only described Esmeralda's feelings of not being accepted and treated fairly, but it spoke for Quasimodo and the other gypsies as well. One of my favorite Disney animated films, this one by far seems to me to be the most dramatic of the animated musicals.
I liked it, too, but I liked Aladdin better. Hunchback's one of those where if you watch it when your younger, and don't like it,t hen re-watcfh it, you do. hunchback's not in my top 5 favorites though. Top Ten, yeah, but the top five belong to Aladdin, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King and Little Mermaid. But hunchback's in place ... seven or eight in my book.
I don't know for you but this has been my favourite movie since I saw it for the first time - I was 7 or 8. I don't remeber why I liked it so much at that age but when I watch it now I see how deep it is!
I think it's because Disney made a film that was too Adult in plot for kids. It is such an underappreciated movie, yet I only saw it once or twice when it came out. Now, I'm 18 and I love it, it's one of my fave Disney films, musically (the music is AMAZING!) and aesthetically. I just love it. The story's great too.
me too, I think it was way too under appreciated in its time, the animation was sick ( in a good way!), the songs were friggin awesome, and yea! wish it was better noted , like no one in my class has seen it!
I love this song, but I can see what the Directors meant. It is "too big" for the scene of Esmerelda's prayer. It does however go nicely with the ending credits...sort of along the theme as "last words" for you to hear and know. It makes a point, but overall, I'm glad they went with God Help the Outcasts :).
I like this song, but I'm glad they went with "God Help the Outcasts". The song is pretty though. I think the version in the ending credits doesn't have this song's intro. (the part with the "God Help the Outcasts" tune)
Fantastic song... I wish it would've found its way into the final film somehow, besides the credits.
It's kind of sad how this song is sung with a voice of hope, yet 600 years later (Hunchback taking place in the 1400s), we're still just as far from "someday" as we were then.
Someday is a lovely song, but it didn't really fit the moment. In the stage musical it fits perfectly in the moment and it's one of the strongest numbers.

The story's great too.

yea...the music in hunchback is better than any other disney movie.

me too, I think it was way too under appreciated in its time, the animation was sick ( in a good way!), the songs were friggin awesome, and yea! wish it was better noted , like no one in my class has seen it!

The people who do this storyboard... are just amazing.

That's a shame they deleted this song.
I sort of wish they kept this song, God Help the Outcasts just seems to be the shorter verison of this song.
However, both songs are good.

I'm glad God help the outcasts made it instead. I just love that song to much. :)
