  • The male reporter was hilarious, and he was 100% correct in his actions. I have had doctors with the worst accents as witnesses, reading at breakneck speed from medical charts. It can be very difficult. Our job is to make a record. The attorneys are paying good money for that record. They appreciate when it's done correctly.

  • Even having sat through depos like that it still was funny as hell. Lol

  • what means that move on 2:31??? : //

  • @forza88abod It means Time Out.

  • part of me is lauging, but the part of me that has had witnesses almost this bad is just cringing.

  • The seasoned male reporter did the right thing. He has a legal right to request an interpreter. During my career I dealt with mumblers, cell phone users, gum smackers and even a drunk or two. Unfortunately, the drunks were attorneys. The "nice" will wear off those young reporters in a hurry. Either that, or they will quit and find other jobs. The attrition rate in court reporting is high. I doubt if many court reporters found this video funny.

  • @L11045 I'm a court reporter student in my first level theory class. The faces that the reporters made made me laugh but this also kind of scared me to think of what I am in for.

  • @nja1987 I know you have been warned that court reporting is an extremely stressful career. I did it 25 years, and it never got easy. It is, however, educational and interesting. Every time you think you've heard everything, something new pops up. Best of luck to you!

  • I'm in love with her. She is a sweetheart!

  • Cognovit, I presume you haven't reported many depositons. I've done seven thousand myself. The "older guy" is not trying to "usurp authority. He IS authority. Attorneys are advocates for the parties. Reporters ARE the record. We have an obligation to let everyone know when we are having difficulty understanding a witness. In my own twenty-something odd year career, there have been two occasions where I have flat out refused to continue with an unintelligible witness.

  • @zalman595 your answer is PERFECT! Couldn't have said it better myself. Great job.

  • RIP BIG MAN

  • Clarifications can be raised once or twice. But if he is mumbling like that you can reflect that in your report. If it is a real scenario the counsel for either party will surely intervene. Unclear depositions can be useful to one party and damaging to the other. The older guy tried to usurp authority. He just have to report what can be reported and refer to the rest as unintelligible. Anyhow it's funny how they handle the scene.

  • The old guy - my hero <3

    LOL

witch doctor says you're no cupcake, huh? lolol

  • Travel to Iraq and your life will get much more agitated, you'll be happy to stay alive!

  • i thought the fat guy with the glass's was the funniest

  • The procedure that I do is this: I can't understand. Repeat. I can't understand. Repeat. Keep saying that until you understand. If the attorney gets upset with you, tell him he is free to call any number of other agencies and have a nice day. I've been reporting too long to have to put up with bs. Don't do it either.

  • Wow, that reminds me of MANY of the depositions I have sat through. I'm a court reporter and I can honestly say I've had to stop people MANY times and say I simply couldn't understand the witness, just like the male reporter in this video. Candid Camera? Heck, this is a day in the life of a court reporter!

  • DITTO!!!!

  • i wouldnt mind do that for a living tell ya the truth, come on it cant be all bad of a job :)

  • I am also a court reporting student and this is way too funny. I would've told them I didn't understand what he was saying immediately like that man did.

  • lol! That's just too funny. You have to love the guy that was being pranked. I'm a court reporting student, so I can honestly say that I would have done the same thing. lol

  • That's hilarious! I was a reporter years back (still licensed but have moved to another profession since). I once had a witness who had a very bad stuttering problem. So yeah, I can relate for sure!

  • not that funny really

  • It is if you're a court reporter!!! Sit in our shoes for a day! :)

  • Wow, all those mumbling witnesses I dealt with over the years, why didn't I think of disqualifying myself! Great idea! Loved it!

  • hysterically wonderful. GO ALLEN!!! YOU TELL 'EM!!! (the male court reporter was TOTALLY APPROPRIATE, yes hystericall so, in his response to the lunacy!)

  • Too cute and somewhat familiar! Signed, A court reporter

  • I'm a court reporter too. And I have had a witness like this before and it was no joke.

  • I'm a court reporter and only court reporters know what other court reporters go through. The thing is, we all have had witnesses like him before.

  • What is the procedure when you can't understand someone?

  • Haha. I too am a court reporter and I can relate big time. Unlike this guy, the mumblers always seem to speak in close to a whisper. I love how the male reporter handled it. He was 100% correct in what he did.

  • ahh i wanna be like you one day
