@sublime344 an octave is simply the same note, but at a different pitch. For example, your open E compared to the 12th fret E. the 12th fret is one octave higher than the open string. Typically on guitar its 2 frets down and 2 strings over from the original note you started at. (Unless the octave is on the b string, its shifted up one half step.)
