Just sitting here, shaking my head at all the people who are saying Glee is better. Look, it's great if you like Chris' version -to each their own- but no young person can perform a song like this. Heck, some adults can't perform it either. Bernadette, though? She is a legend. As are the few other ladies who haveplayed this part on Broadway/West End. Ethel Merman, Patti LuPone, Angela Lansbury, Tyne Daly... come on. There is a reason for these casting decisions.

I think Bernadette's pitch is much better than Patti's. If you listen closely to Patti her pitch is sometimes off.

I don't see why people have such a problem with Bernadette's voice -- It's great, maybe not as loud as Patti or Ethel but it wouldn't make sense for Mama Rose to be a phenomenal singer.

Bernadette plays Mama Rose as the real person that she was, the others just use it as an excuse to belt fortisitisimo.

I don't know why people are ripping on Bernadette so much. She was great. Her voice was great, she was just having bronchial trouble. Either way, she was so much better than Tyne and Merman. Bernadette a can act and sing, whereas Merman lacked the ability to act and Tyne Daly could not sing. And yet, Tyne won and Bernadette didn't. What drugs are the voters on nowadays?

I think after seeing Patti LuPone in this role & hearing her voice, Bernadette seems awful in this role. 1. She's too young 2. Her voice is again, not as strong as Patti's. Plus, her speaking voice doesn't fit the character either.

Bernadette is not young. she just always looks hot. On Grey's Anatomy, she was smokin hot. Patti Lupone just aged terribly. Bernadette made this role, earthy and realistic. Whereas, the play itself is big brassy and over the top. Just liek Patti Lupone. The best Rose is prolly Angela Lansbury, but Bernadette is better than Lupone any day in anything.

Patti's Rose was sad, desperate, and scary to me. Bernadette's Rose was desperate, scary, and wanted to be a STAR. I liked them both... Bernadette a little more than Patti prolly.

Its so ironic that before Bernadette got this role she had a concert where she had describe that she had loved this song since she had heard it while performing in the show when she was younger. Now she got to sing it as Rose.

God, she totally blew my away in this role. I often wonder how many of the Bernadette-naysayers actually saw her play it. There was an astonishing power and raw energy to her performance. I believed every note, every glance, every moment of her Rose. She is an exraordinary performer.
