You can't copyright ideas, only TANGIBLE properties. Math is NOT a tangible property. For example, one cannot copyright a musical notation, such as placing quarter notes in a certain pattern, because that's an idea. Proof of this is found in many music using exact same repeated chord progressions in the past century. A SONG, on the other hand, is a tangible product of the those ideas.

Notes played by a specific instrument in a specific way, that allows it to be interpreted by five senses, even if it's just written down on paper, however, can be.
