@TheBuzzlin I am an Nvidia fanboy I would say, and I totally agree. You shouldn't think physx should change your idea for buying a video card. And really most games I can't even tell the difference save a few. Like Batman Arkham City. CAUSE IT HAS FOG!
soo... let me get this straight! those "effects" are nothing new, BUT, developers use PhysX to put them into the game so NVidia can put theyr brend on the game, and if you don't use NVidia you just don't get all that graphics you could because they said so? thats just sad =/ Anyways it's not NVidias fault, they are just doing they'r job, I hate the game developers for this! =s I'm not a NVidia or AMD fanboy, I use AMD but I rly like PhysX!
pissing me off that the 7970 beats the 580 not so mad about that i knew it was going to happen pissed that nvdia wont lower the 580 price even a little i building a pc now im not going to wait a couple months just for physx nvdia might be losing a customer if they dont lower the price soon
@crazychainsaw007 Well yeah, it is the first in the next generation of GPUs, it's going to beat the old generation.
Your only choice for Physx is to either wait for a price drop or for Nvidia's new GPU line, but they're going to be extremely expensive. You could always get a 7970 and then a 470 as a dedicated Phsyx card, which might even be cheaper.
I tried turning on Physx with an ATI 5870 in Mirrors Edge, and the ONLY thing that made the framerate drop was when glass shattered. All of the cloth effects and "extra detail" did NOTHING to the performance.
Such a fucking scam when they take stuff away from the game that could still be there. I understand why it's needed for particles, but not fucking scenery.
@SlapsYourShit It's because on ATI/AMD crads there is no Physicx processor and they leave all the job to the CPU not the GPU, so your fps didnt fall because u must have a nice CPU.
@SlapsYourShit well nvidia always have phxics amd dont if there is an option then yes amd can use phsx but with a slight performance drop nvidia on most or all im not to sure but nvidia have phxs on most of there games
I'm not a pc gamer at all, but I came across this video. I am just wondering why you wouldn't want this 'physx' enabled? So why do you get the option?
Yea... Nah, gimmicky effects aren't that impressive.
Nvidia and ATI always bring out cards that out do the other, it's impossible to say "Company A is better than Company B" due to this.
If you do, then you know jack shit about GPU's and you probably only know the difference between the two because one is called ATI and one is called Nvidia.
you guys think this can't be done without physx it is a gimmick they just take features off for people without nvidia thats the bs behind it its useless and only a few games have it pretty much all the games in the few and maybe 2-3 more have physx and its rather worthless and takes away 20-30 fps away for that shit too happen very badly coded piece of garbage
i just found out how to enable physx on my graphics card and its amazing, especially in battlefield 3. I cant stop LOOKING at the game! and the game actually runs FASTER with physx on. probably takes the strain off my cpu :D
Question: Should I get Nvidia's 580 or TWO Amd 6950's in CrossfireX??? What I'm really wondering is if the PhysX is worth having... because in all benchmarks the 6950's blow the 580 out of the water.
The price in any case will be the same so money's not an issue.
I know bro...We pay 1200 dollars (two graphics cards only not the entire rig) just to see a piece of paper float around in the air in a realistic manner
@Shaby18 CPU is designed to work with greater set of instructions so it is more complicated and thus slower. GPU's instruction set is reduced and specialized on performing best with the most used operation in graphic related process.
There is more of course but this is the short version answer.
It just seems that in these demos that the physx tech is just adding more effects to the scene instead of dramatically impacting the gameplay. I want to see a completely realized game with this technology. Much like the Advanced Warfighter Physx demo where everything was destructible.
@SuperEvilSquid Cute thought, but also half right. Effects built specifically for the high-accuracy PhysX will not show up. Realistic cloth physics, realistic flowing fog ect. are all calculated physics-wise by PhysX. Without it, they can't really use them well, so they don't render them.
On Metro 2033 I loose maybe 5 fps... and in games like Arkham Assylum where you're already getting a solid 60fps beforehand, going to 55fps doesn't really matter.
It geuinely improves games (i've used physx in games).

but the picture says the display ist just connected to integrated hd 3000!!!
i can play games very smoothly when i set the exe with nivida but tsill the physx in batman arkham asylum wont work...and in the settings it says there was no physx gpu found!
@SuperEvilSquid Yeah you're right. I should have done more research before saying anything. I was under the impression that there was something different about Nvidia's chips because Ageia used a PPU for PhysX so I thought Nvidia must have integrated that architecture into their GPU's which made them different than AMD's chips in that they couldn't compute physics efficiently. But PhysX is just software that's offloaded onto the CUDA cores. AMD could offload that work onto the stream processors.
I hope you're being sarcastic because that isn't normal fog. The fog is dynamic in that it reacts to it's environment's changes accordingly. And what static objects are you talking about? If it's moving around, it's not static. Every static object that's in the PhysX scenes are in the non-PhysX scenes.
Anybody saying that this is a marketing gimmick are ignorant about real-time physics computing. It takes massive amounts of computing to render physics in real-time depending on how realistic you want your scene to be because physics formulas get immensely complex when trying to render many things at once. And on top of that, the GPU still has to run the rest of the game engine at a playable rate. Think about this, it takes days to render a scene in blender. These GPUs are doing it in real-time.
Shenanigans people.I just tested this and it is complete BS.Correct driver.Correct Graphics card. I have Tried both the Radeon HD 5750 and the GeForce 9800GT.Tested 3DMark Vantage. The 9800GT was slower but did show the graphics pronounced. But the AMD Radeon HD 5750 ALSO showed the exact same graphics. NOTHING was missing. i call SHENANIGANS!
@misthafly im using a AMD Phenom II x6 1100T Black edition. No it is not the processor.Take my word for it.I am getting the same graphics without using my 9800GT.Also.I checked on the new Nvidia driver i can set the PhysX via CPU. im getting the same results.i stand by Shenanigans declination!
I bet some gamecompanies get money from nvidia if they cripple people that don't have PhysX turned on.
But I do understand that PhysX, CUDA and stuff like that do make it a lot easier for gamedevelopers. They don't have to press so many extra keys squeeze some extra beauty into the game.
@SuperEvilSquid its because fog has to move when hit by a moving target and requires massive amount of physx calculations. Static Object that DONT MOVE will show up because they are modeled into the game. But objects such as banners require physx to calculate it.
kinda like trying to use a monitor when ur pc has NO graphic card at all. it won't work.
most this video shows is that physix is overrated and in most games its just put there to show off parts which could be done easily on ATI. come on...
oh no! ive been missing out on cloths, particles and LEAVES! LEAVES!!!
i didnt notice how shit arkham assylum looked without those cloths on the rafters when i was playing it, but i do now! and oh how i wish that thug on the benchmark had been kicking papers!
i honestly cant believe i allowed myself to witness such poor bullet holes appearing in walls
ive been such a fool, giving up cloth effects and extra particles and leaves (LEAVES!!!!) and only to save like $60!
@DaGleese physx is free my dude so your entire argument just went shit. Sorry ATI fanboy. Lol i can even download the SDK for nvidia physx for free! lmao. But seriously physx shows when your playing an FPS too, like zooming in on some chicks boobs as they bounce gets me killed everytime...damn you bastards who pick the girl avatars so i dont shoot at the boobs!
@Vincini28 im not an ati fanboy, i have a gtx 550 and HD 5770 >_> and yes physx is free, but you have to own an nvidia card to harness it, and for anyone looking into getting a card for a budget build i reccomend going with ati
the closest nvidia card (with price taken into account) to the radeon HD 5770 would be the gts 450, and yes you would get physx on that card, but the 5770 outperforms the gts 450 by miles, the difference in fact is running crysis in high on 5770 and med on 450
@DaGleese ATi practices stronger core clocks, Nvidia practices powerful shader clocks. Some games play better on an ATI because they are graphical consumers like the first crysis. But in todays world games utilize more from the CPU which makes the shading clock more valuable. Its basically like this, ATI is supported by 30% of games and 70% Nvidia, it all depends on if the game wants more units and destruction which would be nvidia, or just a game that uses primarily a GPU and GTS 450 is cheaper
@Vincini28 $20 difference in price between them, and in the world of vidcards thats peanuts :P
ok well, to draw a conclusion anyway:
nvidia DO make top quality cards, and yes physx is nice, however i still stand by reccomending ati to the budget audience. for example: say someone wants to upgrade their current pc to gaming level, if what you say about nvidia relying on cpu is true, then ati would be the best idea, because youd have less chance of bottlenecking
@DaGleese Yeah i suppose for a budget but i think ati would be more of along the lines if you wanted to play a specific game you buy an ati card but if you wanted the sheer power to to play your favorite game and any other id go with nvidia. My conclusion-Nvidia for compulsive gamers. Ati for the beginner/2 days in the week gaming lol, btw did you hear about nvidia's new gpu's with more CUDA cores? I dont remember but i think they said its like 3 times as many cores than the fermi cards
So what, it is a good business concept to make contracts with other companies to use something that you put into. Ya its a way for Nvidia to make money, but isn't that the point. Your not going to pay your employees with monopoly money.
Makes no sense to me that objects disappear with Physx enabled.
Also that bridge falling apart and the plastic that Faith runs trough (Mirrors edge) looks like it weighs alot . its pretty bouncy and heavy like while it should be light and slightly stiffer.
Is there an Physics engine for AMD cards that will work like this with most games?
@REVLEX321 AMD has nothing related to PHYSX. the only thing they have close to NVIDEA is their crossfire which is their version of SLI. PHYSX i believe is patented? maybe? the one thing you guys are forgetting is with physx enable and you have a secondary graphcis card, put that secondary graphics dedicated to physx. it takes alot of stress off your processor, unless you have an i7 then do not even worry about it. For those of you who like a core 2 duo or something. use the 2nd card for physx.
@MrSztos99 no it won't, because Valve has always been partial towards ATI and a general "making sure" of their stuff to run on a variety of platforms
there's no saying, however, that Valve won't use a GPU-accelerated physics engine in the future. if they would they would probably use something OpenCL or DirectCompute-based instead of CUDA-based as PhysX is. if they used any of the two then it would for sure run on both NVIDIA and ATI GPUs (OpenCL, however, would probably run better on ATI)
Actually you are the one who hating, things like that dead horse and effects explaining arent that important, seriously Physx is worthless because of explanation its effects ? - _ - see your point there somewhere but have intensive feeling its too forced. No hating thats just my opinion about your comment, its law that has every internet user, ok see my point?
Are you shitting me? The SOURCE engine is better than Havok. Low PhysX and High PhysX are different. Low will get you ragdolls, and that's about it (btw: they are better than Havok) but High PhysX is this shit you're watching. And don't complain because your mom's E-Machine can't handle PhysX.
@AETutorials42 just so you know, the source is a game engine and is powered by havok physx. all valves games are supported with havok physx enginee, and i forgot to write physX after enginee.
Havok PhysX? Don't you mean physics? PhysX is solely by NVIDIA. Source is a HEAVILY MODIFIED version of Havok, otherwise they wouldn't call it "Source", they'd call it "Havok". But that's not the point. Mafia 2 on the PC, with PhysX off (which means no particle effects, but ragdolls) can play like a charm on any decent system. It goes to show that you can just turn the fancy stuff off, and you won't take such a hit.
@AETutorials42 ffs man, understand this...source enginee ony applys the graphics and so on. all im trying to say is the havok enginee has better physics then nvidias. like look at the witcher 2 and portal 2, they use havok physics. the witcher 2 uses their own enginee for grapchis and athmosphere, while portal 2 uses their own source enginee.
To be completely honest, the Euphoria engine outdoes both PhysX and Havok in terms of PHYSICS simulation. In terms of particle simulation, and destruction and such, PhysX outdoes them both. Havok is good, but outdated.
GUYS LISTEN:
If you want to buy an ATI Card and they say you can't play any game on it because it has no physics, don't believe them.
There are totally 26!! Games which just support Physx, you shouldn't buy an NVIDIA card just because of Physx, just saying...

You're forgetting about things like cloth and the debris.
eg. In Arkham Asylum, you can throw things at the waving cloth and cut it or interact with it ect...

And if you tried to do it on the CPU, it'd hit 2 FPS.

PhysX isn't support by many games and is still a bit of a con if you ask me.
Look at the small amount of rubble that makes no difference or look anybetter.
Oh we add a few stacks of paper. Sorry but most of this could be done easily on a CPU while playing the game......

Stupid question but am I able to use PhysX with Ati gfx cards if the game uses the PhysX?
m4ssee 4 months ago
@m4ssee Try it and you will cripple your frame rate by about 50-60%.
ATI cards are not coded for PhysX.
samuelrosenbalm 4 months ago
@SuperEvilSquid Yeah you're right. I should have done more research before saying anything. I was under the impression that there was something different about Nvidia's chips because Ageia used a PPU for PhysX so I thought Nvidia must have integrated that architecture into their GPU's which made them different than AMD's chips in that they couldn't compute physics efficiently. But PhysX is just software that's offloaded onto the CUDA cores. AMD could offload that work onto the stream processors.
bluestargalaxy4 4 months ago
@SuperEvilSquid
I hope you're being sarcastic because that isn't normal fog. The fog is dynamic in that it reacts to it's environment's changes accordingly. And what static objects are you talking about? If it's moving around, it's not static. Every static object that's in the PhysX scenes are in the non-PhysX scenes.
bluestargalaxy4 4 months ago

@SuperEvilSquid To get more PhysX cards out on the market.
Andreas0Elf 5 months ago
@SuperEvilSquid its because fog has to move when hit by a moving target and requires massive amount of physx calculations. Static Object that DONT MOVE will show up because they are modeled into the game. But objects such as banners require physx to calculate it.
kinda like trying to use a monitor when ur pc has NO graphic card at all. it won't work.

only thing I can see a physix feature for it just to render smoke, fog or smog. Cause those things take some mad processing power
samin62 5 months ago
most this video shows is that physix is overrated and in most games its just put there to show off parts which could be done easily on ATI. come on...

DaGleese 6 months ago
@DaGleese physx is free my dude so your entire argument just went shit. Sorry ATI fanboy. Lol i can even download the SDK for nvidia physx for free! lmao. But seriously physx shows when your playing an FPS too, like zooming in on some chicks boobs as they bounce gets me killed everytime...damn you bastards who pick the girl avatars so i dont shoot at the boobs!
Vincini28 6 months ago
@Vincini28 im not an ati fanboy, i have a gtx 550 and HD 5770 >_> and yes physx is free, but you have to own an nvidia card to harness it, and for anyone looking into getting a card for a budget build i reccomend going with ati
the closest nvidia card (with price taken into account) to the radeon HD 5770 would be the gts 450, and yes you would get physx on that card, but the 5770 outperforms the gts 450 by miles, the difference in fact is running crysis in high on 5770 and med on 450
DaGleese 6 months ago
@DaGleese ATi practices stronger core clocks, Nvidia practices powerful shader clocks. Some games play better on an ATI because they are graphical consumers like the first crysis. But in todays world games utilize more from the CPU which makes the shading clock more valuable. Its basically like this, ATI is supported by 30% of games and 70% Nvidia, it all depends on if the game wants more units and destruction which would be nvidia, or just a game that uses primarily a GPU and GTS 450 is cheaper
Vincini28 6 months ago
@Vincini28 $20 difference in price between them, and in the world of vidcards thats peanuts :P
ok well, to draw a conclusion anyway:
nvidia DO make top quality cards, and yes physx is nice, however i still stand by reccomending ati to the budget audience. for example: say someone wants to upgrade their current pc to gaming level, if what you say about nvidia relying on cpu is true, then ati would be the best idea, because youd have less chance of bottlenecking
DaGleese 6 months ago
@DaGleese Yeah i suppose for a budget but i think ati would be more of along the lines if you wanted to play a specific game you buy an ati card but if you wanted the sheer power to to play your favorite game and any other id go with nvidia. My conclusion-Nvidia for compulsive gamers. Ati for the beginner/2 days in the week gaming lol, btw did you hear about nvidia's new gpu's with more CUDA cores? I dont remember but i think they said its like 3 times as many cores than the fermi cards
Vincini28 6 months ago
sure it looks good with added particle, smoke, Styrofoam wall .. etc.. but.. nvdia card.. just too expensive for me..
BEEWAX88 6 months ago
So what, it is a good business concept to make contracts with other companies to use something that you put into. Ya its a way for Nvidia to make money, but isn't that the point. Your not going to pay your employees with monopoly money.
oflaherty117 6 months ago
Of course they would only show games that NEED PhysX for these effects. Many of these effects are achieved in games without PhysX.

Crysis, Metro... etc?
Seems to me Physx is the big thing.
REVLEX321 7 months ago
@REVLEX321 AMD has nothing related to PHYSX. the only thing they have close to NVIDEA is their crossfire which is their version of SLI. PHYSX i believe is patented? maybe? the one thing you guys are forgetting is with physx enable and you have a secondary graphcis card, put that secondary graphics dedicated to physx. it takes alot of stress off your processor, unless you have an i7 then do not even worry about it. For those of you who like a core 2 duo or something. use the 2nd card for physx.

MrSztos99 7 months ago
@MrSztos99 no it won't, because Valve has always been partial towards ATI and a general "making sure" of their stuff to run on a variety of platforms
there's no saying, however, that Valve won't use a GPU-accelerated physics engine in the future. if they would they would probably use something OpenCL or DirectCompute-based instead of CUDA-based as PhysX is. if they used any of the two then it would for sure run on both NVIDIA and ATI GPUs (OpenCL, however, would probably run better on ATI)

havok enginee is better now. better performence and does not take alot of fps.
gunnar045 8 months ago
@gunnar045
AETutorials42 7 months ago
@AETutorials42 just so you know, the source is a game engine and is powered by havok physx. all valves games are supported with havok physx enginee, and i forgot to write physX after enginee.
gunnar045 7 months ago
@gunnar045
AETutorials42 7 months ago
@AETutorials42 ffs man, understand this...source enginee ony applys the graphics and so on. all im trying to say is the havok enginee has better physics then nvidias. like look at the witcher 2 and portal 2, they use havok physics. the witcher 2 uses their own enginee for grapchis and athmosphere, while portal 2 uses their own source enginee.
gunnar045 7 months ago
@gunnar045
To be completely honest, the Euphoria engine outdoes both PhysX and Havok in terms of PHYSICS simulation. In terms of particle simulation, and destruction and such, PhysX outdoes them both. Havok is good, but outdated.
AETutorials42 7 months ago
@VGKitov well to be honest physx are the next best step towards realism to be honest
GuitarGasmProduction 8 months ago
@VGKitov nothing in gaming is a gimmick when it tries to reach realism, you my friend are wrong
GuitarGasmProduction 8 months ago
Well, if i understand correctly: PhysX = more small shit flying around.
Guess that's what you get for shitting on graphics of games all the time :p
frestylezz 8 months ago
@VGKitov I see what you mean, however, i think this does somewhat add to the immersion of the experience.
Its ofcourse just a choice in whether or not you want to put down the extra cash for a card that supports this,
but for those people who do, it just adds somemore immersion,
oh and i'm pretty sure the dead horse thing, is the game's fault, not physx :D

that's just ridiculous that they say: only physx can do this!!!!! ONLY NVIDIA PHYSX!!!! ^^
