  • I just got back from Honey's memorial benefit concert @ Buddy Guy's club in the south Loop in Chicago. Much music and many stories about the last remaining link to Robert Johnson and the Delta blues. I also saw Mr. Edwards play at a small club called The Hideout on Wabansia several times. I was lucky enough to make friends with David's manager, Michael Frank which enabled me to get to know 'Honey' as Michael referred to him. Those two were touring partners since '72 when they met in Rogers Pk.

  • Buddy aint here !

  • Eu adoro o som da guitarra no Blues !!!

  • Definetly no Buddy Guy on this.

  • Even if Buddy Guy is on this one in the back, and I doubt he is, his playing here wouldn't be characterist of why people think he's great. Nothing wrong with just chugging along but that was never BG's thing. In fact he's lacks so much structure in his playing only he could get away with it. He makes Jimmy Reed sound tight at times.

  • Under-rated album, from it's time. My fave track at the time was Madison Blues ......... shoes! Thanks for posting this, for a blast from my past . Cheers!

  • the vrsion of Like It This Way on this album is untouchable, you wont catch a dual guitar partnership like it ever again

  • The vocals on this track are COMPLETELY OUTRAGEOUS! Honeyboy sounds like he just got off from a days' work in the fields and is tapping his foot on the dirt floor in the barn. Super! The opening slide is indeed just like Elmore James. It is identical to the opening notes of "Dust My Broom."

  • Great to hear this, wouldn't we have loved to have been there.

  • Thanks for posting this masterpiece. Only 12000 views? The girl showing off her six-pack got 12000000? It should be sad, but somehow it isn't.

  • honeyboy edwards all the way! so very good! i love it! thank you

  • gamoonboat, I was talking about the guitar, well anyway, it sounds extremely Elmore James-esque, whoever it was did good at sounding more or less exactly like Elmore James

  • Jeremy Spencer (the old vocalist/slide guitarest) for Fleetwood Mac was extremely influenced by James. They even covered a couple of his songs. It's very alike.

  • I have this album ... But I don't have this song :((

  • @shrine52 That's correct this song stands alone on the CD box and not on the

    release on the org LP

  • Question:; Is Elmore James on MAdison Blues from Vol. 1 Chicago Sessions?

  • No. He was dead. I believe that Peter Green has that vocal.

  • Actually it is Jeremy Spencer.

  • Wow, the 'young' David 'Honeyboy' Edwards, born 1915, here in 1969, age 54, & still playing today, at 94!

  • definitely Honeyboy

  • Yeah Honeyboy was playing on this. He appeared as a guest performer on a lot of stuff. You can't find too much of his playing anymore. One of the delta guys who's still alive.

  • I love the blues jam's by Fletwood Mac,those cd's are the best!

  • Buddy Guy is not on that LP. I own the old double-LP. Guitar Buddy is different. And Buddy Guy is not the sort to have sat around in the background strumming. And that sure ain't Buddy Guy singing. Nice, though.

  • I have the cd's, and when I put it on my computer it said buddy guy as the artist, with the others.

  • Hmmm. I could be wrong--it happened once (joke). Still, I wouldn't put too much faith in the computer. Some person had to input that information. Sure ain't him singing--he's a much better singer, would also have been fairly young then, and that is abs not him playing slide. Could be him on the rhythm guitar, but I doubt it.

  • the voice you hear singing is David ''Honeyboy'' Edwards, This guy played in the time of late Robert Johnson's years ;-) and indeed theres no buddy guy in there hehe

  • Buddy Guy doesnt nornally play background but you should listen to Muddy Waters' Folk Singer, absolutely gold. a very young buddy guy playing background, with willie dixon on bass.

  • Buddy guy did play on the Chicago sessions.

  • 'Guitar Buddy' is indeed Buddy Guy, though he only appears on 'Red Hot Jam' on Volume 1 of Blues Jam at Chess

  • Indeed. So guys, Buddy guy does play on the Chicago sessions and i remember Mike Vernon saying there were a few tracks where they couldn't remember if Buddy had played on or not (he was only there for half the time the others were) so at times his name may be attached to a number but he may not have played. I have a sneaky feeling he is playing some rhythm on this one though. Pretty sure i can here too guitars if not more.

  • Lets Face it= THIS IS THE GREATEST BLUES ALBUM OF ALLTIME

GOD BLESS PETER GREEN FOR COMING TO CHICAGO TO BLOW OUR MINDS

  • If you guys must know Buddy is playing slightly on this...just playing a bit of rhythm.

I love on the Red Hot Jam takes it says

Guitar : Probably Buddy Guy. haha.

He just sat in and had some fun with Fm.

  • I was just stating that Bloomfield had alot to do with the white British blues movement in America, and we are talking 1964 onwards. Also in the same breath you would mention Paul Butterfield and lets not forget the great Duane Allman and many many more.Thanks.

  • You got that right! Some of the best music and musicians in my book!

  • This is actually Fleetwood Mac with Honeyboy Edwards you worm, that ain't Buddy Guy!!!! Get it straight son!!!

  • Look at the caption smartass, it includes edwards, and buddy guy. On the cd it says Guitar buddy, now known as buddy guy. And look at my summary of the video on the side, it says who is in it. I got it straight from the cd.

  • Thanks for posting! Blues does not get any better than this. With special thanks to The Mac whom were 'responsible' for the popularity of blues outside the USA. In my opinion they contributed the most. Mac and blues 4ever! Cheers from Holland.

  • I liked Britains music before, bands like fleetwood mac and led zeppelin had a big appreciation for the blues. America had(has) some good blues bands, but Britain definatly contributed the most to getting blues back to be more popular.

  • Hi dear fellow,

Thank you for your reply! Yes I agree completely. For some reason, but that is difficult to prove, I think that the American bluesmen and -women are more popular in Europe then in the USA. Or perhaps I am mistaken. Anyway, thank you for posting, keep up the good work! Kind regards, Fred.

  • Europe has a lot of good music, as well as America, but people raised in America are more dependent on the media for music, so blues isn't a very popular type of music. I think Britain, and most of Europe in all, has a lot more control over their people, instead of the media.

  • Lets not forget Mike Bloomfield :D

  • It takes the USA a damned long time.. but I do believe that blues is comin back on .. bigtime. And the population is more than HALF over 50 years old.. We dont "COTTON" to the crap on the radio. We grew up with the greats.. and can afford to GO OUT AND SUPPORT THEM..! Thanks for this incredible old piece. Buddy being called GUITAR BUDDY>. well that is sOOh interesting. I am taking that to his club.. and tellin his friends I saw who he really is.. GEORGE is busted!

  • Yeah, i'm actually 14. I normally listen to blues, blues rock, rock, classic rock, and heavy metal.

  • LOL>..Hope so old friend...but the driving laws have made it very hard for people to come out and support bands.

Believe me, I'm still out there spreading the religion of the bluz...and I will until the day I die...

  • Garret, I find a lot of people not drinking. Yahoo has this thing called Meetups. you can 'create' a meetup club for blues in your town. And then say I could use a designated driver. Never give up! There is a way! Bluz will come to your neighborhood, but for now we have to do what we got to do!

  • folks just gotta hear this album-originally bought it fresh home from the Nam, wore this out!

  • I have the chicago blues album with fleetwood mac, I might be able to send it to you with artwork, it's on my computer.

    Thanks by the way :)

  • thanks for your reply and thanks for posting this album. I could not remember the name of it, been searching for thirtyfive years,as I lost it when my apartment house burned. thanks to you I was able to pick it up on E-bay. Many many thanks.

  • No problem.
