@toddthedrysocket Very good question. The age of the Earth and the Solar System is calculated with absolute dating methods, basically based in the nuclear decay of certain elements. Different measurements of meteorites give precise data of when they were formed. It is estimated that they were formed in the origin of our Solar System, when matter was being accreted in the planetoids that eventually became proper planets.

Wow at some of these comments! - Some people need to revisit some high school chemistry and physics classes! 'God' this, 'god' that! - You people can't possibly think like that! - If we can logically explain 99% of the earths creation through solid scientific principles, it's a reasonable assumption that the other 1% unexplained CAN and WILL be explained in the future!
- I'm not religious or a non-believer! I just follow the statistical evidence, you should too!
yeah this guy is great, i just watched the "how earth made us series ' on ABC, what is his name, and is that a Scotish or Northern English Accent. Thanks for posting.
@GeologiaES. The air was not created for us to breath it. We were born to breath this precise Air. if the air was different so would we be... and Earth is still being built piece by piece. With every asteroid and even every particle of dust that falls from the sky Earth is getting bigger. the difference between then and now is that there are less asteroids than then and that Earth is now so big that we fail to perceive its growth. I hope I have answered your questions! :-)
How about this; what if God caused the Big Bang in order to create the universe. He then later created the earth by using gravity to smash the rocks together! I mean hey, the Bible says in Genesis 1 that the earth was without form or void....so there you have it!
@jerrylittlemars the big bang was created by all the particles in space being to so concentrated in one area that it eventually exploded (the big bang) witch is why the universe is still expanding and why space is infinite.
Just one question, how do researchers/scientists know how or what Pangaea looked like over 100 MILLION years ago? Where is the proof to show how it looked? Is it to do with the plate movements/tectonics around the earths plate boundries, and how they show us how the earth has developed over billions of years?
@MsMisspoppie Money and power are just so futile but have shaped our history ever since the bank was created. They allways knew our ecosystems could support a max population of 1B, or a controllable 500M. They allso knew something big was on the way, so, latest way of exploiting all they could was to populate as much as possible to create fast tech and wealth evolution, get'em sick on cancer, hart, diabetis, mental, etc, desies and suck all their money.
@MsMisspoppie Humans are responsible of poisonning the planet, not for the blend of BIG cyclic changes on the way. See, that's the thing: polar shifts seam to happen randomly but, in fact, it's a mix of circumstaces like time in solar cycles; solar system configuration; electro magnetic fields on Earth, nearby planets, sun, nearby solar sys, galaxy, etc; plate tectonic configuration and condition; etc, etc, etc. Magnetic fields extend infinitly but weaken with distance and interact with each other
The universe have been created out of nothing, because that what you call nothing, still weights something, small energy fields poping out of existance, and this has been proven and its the latest/finest view of science.
IF your so called god, has became from nothing, why would it be hard to believe in this, that has actualy been proven as true.

Shortly, the Sun prolonged its 23rd cycle's minimum by 2 years, announcing about 40 years of chilly weather; some near by electro magnets are playng with our core's orientation causing soup currents to lose momentum and change directions weakening our magnetic field exposing us to more energy from the sun, desastrous erruptions (like yellow stone) and plate tectonic action like the west coast (or should I say from golf of Mexico to Great Lakes)... We're lucky to live at such a historic moment!..
@muntu1221 we don't just "think it". The big bang, evolution and all that other stuff you so readily dismiss because it doesn't fit with your bronze age myths, are scientific theories based on facts and evidence we have gathered about the world and universe around us.
All the evidence points to these theories being true. You have no evidence for your argument other than your own ignorance
All this is a load of crap, how would all the collision happen all of a sudden if there isn't anything to make it, and explain to me about the big bang, how would something come from nothing, this is all just another way to say that there is no God but there is
@muntu1221 After a cloud of space dust is formed, this starts to form a whirl, where most of material is accumulated in the centre (Therefore forming the Sun). External groups of material would lead to different planets, moons, asteroids, comets... Gravity is the force that makes mass of this size to become attached, and gravity is also what makes it be a sphere. If you want to learn about Big Bang, buy a book by Stephen Hawking or Brian Greene, but not because you don't grasp it, it is false.
@GeologiaES so how do you explain the evidence here in your eyes your self how did you brain come out over wind or dust if god wasnt the one who created us he is the one former and shaper of this entire galaxy if you say one thing didnt created the other then why cant rocks walk like humans well i tell you because god created us one by one to serve one purpuse or many!
@kdragon11 Have you ever bothered in studying BIOLOGY in school? By the way, I don't "say" anything: Evidences are there for anyone who wants to listen to them. Just proof your interpretation of the world as a scientist does. Can you?
@muntu1221 The dust cloud formed around the sun because of the collapse of a dust/gas cloud into the sun and a surrounding disk of debris. The collapse of the initial dust/gas cloud that formed the sun was caused by the exposion of a nearby star. The angular momentum of all the planets shows that they formed from collisions within a disk of smaller particles. A religion based on ignorance is not worth very much.
@muntu1221 For your emotional and psychological comfort, ok yes that invisible man that lives somewhere in the Universe, which you pray to and occasionally answers your prayers, which is more concerned with this us and this planet only rather than the whole Universe made the planet.
But in real life the video explains how it was made.
@muntu1221 The big bang didnt came from nothing, it came from an extremely hot and extremely small spot which exploded with unimaginable loads of energy. And how do you explain where god came fram, for that matter ??
@MrBillyBob477 hahaha hey i happened to see this and by the looks of it my cousin muntu1221 is right,i mean how do you explain how the big bang happened, where do you think you came from of course now your gonna say from your parents but before you answer think about it.
@muntu1221 yeah i agree with muntu. all these scientist only create a theory about the origin of the earth but dont have the most concrete evidence to prove it. only God knows how he did the universe.
Have you only tried to read what the scientists all over the world have written about it, all the research that's been done and the findings that ensued.
You require evidence from the scientists but have you got the slightest proof of the god you're talking about. No, of course, because when you hear the word "god", you're prepared to gobble everything that any fool can tell you about it.
@elamhaine009 and im sure god is going to tell us how he created the universe...yeah right very convincing..you dont deserve to think you freaking douchbag..go get a lobotomized and mark yourself brain dead..this is science ass wipe..not simple minded religion...
@muntu1221 there is something happening you god freak moron...1. metoerites and astroids are colliding...and its forming a planet it by itself....2.something does come out from nothing the big bang is a perfect example...ever seen a tornado change into the size of a building...3. yes its a better way of explaning and concluding that there is no god...just because ignorant people like you who dont get it..but its ok i forgive you... ignorance is bliss..oh one question for you??? who created GOD ?
@muntu1221 It didn't happen all of a sudden, the earth formed from leftover materials that formed the sun. But it was a slow process, our earth grew from a pebble sized object to almost it's present size in about 30 million years.
@muntu1221 this is nothing to do with your "there is no God" theory, its about how our planet was created.... since your a professional scientist, maybe you can tell us how God created the planet, and know he did not create it through sticks and stones :P
@muntu1221 The difference is, this is a theory that is backed by real tangible evidence; not a dated belief system; completely un-unique and lacking in any evidence whatsoever.
@toktz1 This didn't happen in one day or one week. It happened in hundreds of millions of years. Water became differentiated from other componets, forming an atmosphear of steam, forming vast oceans. About life, check out primigenious life and evolution in your nearest school.
@GeologiaES Also comets that have collided into the earth from space created oceans with there frozen ice and rock that melted once on the earths surface
@hynes1628 no I think thats actually wrong, what happened (not totally sure) is that gas from volcanoes and from inside the earth went into the sky but when the earth cooled the gases condensed and some of the gases formed water which created the oceans.
But how did the water come about? Something cannot bring itself into existance, scince it must exist to bring itself onto existence, which is illogical.
Can we set the base under the active volcano to collect the energy we need now? :) Why let them vent in waste? Actually , the core of earth is a real sun too, just not clear when it going to blast us away? May God bless all of us then. :)
@LexiBrieBetterTV Comets that crashed into the forming planet. Gravity and magnetic fields trapping existing hydrogen and oxygen, as well as many other gases, that were already floating around in space. H2O is actually the second most abundant element in the universe behind hydrogen.
i have a feeling there is a seceoned earth around.....here......somewhere.....but there is another earth if you look at the beging you will see meteors so guess what!hint:another earth
@konshus17 my guess is that as the earth's surface cooled, all the vapours and steam from the molten rock started to condense in the air, forming an atmosphere which in turn would cause precipitation (rain). as this process carries on for millions of years, with the earth getting colder and colder, more and more water would start appearing.
Water is actually one of the most common molecules in the Universe so it would have arrived by gravitational pull. And anyway don't forget that water can exist in very hot circumstances as steam. So if you're stuck on the idea that a volcanically hot surface would boil away the water, that doesn't matter... it still exists as steam and is captured by gravity. As the surface cooled it would liquify.
@Lanlost the earth is not expanding because of platetwctonics new crust is formed and old crust is destroyed and this cycle will continue for the rest of earth's life the magma has it's own convection current powered by the core
if some meteors joined together and made EARTH , why the earth is not expanding anymore? .
one more thing: in your video you show us the earth moving in chaotic form when it was being made, why is the earth now moving in its line in solar system and is not anymore full of fire and vulcano?
"if some meteors joined together and made EARTH , why the earth is not expanding anymore? ."
And your other quote too.. I don't think you are thinking at the proper scale for this. The earth is pretty chatoic. There are volcanos, earthquakes, .. all the time.
Also, the Earth has cleared it's path. This is one major part of the definition of a planet and one of the reasons Pluto is not considered one anymore. If multitudes of objects were hitting, it WOULD expand.
What the heck? Hello, earth was born TOGETHER with the moon in a nova. -_- But honestly, all the theories of how earth was created is still completely unknown.
@PlueDot The moon was created when the young Earth collided with another planet, which was the size of today's Mars. It was about 5 million years after the Earth formed.
It's generally thought that the moon was once part of the earth, if so? When did the moon break free from the earth and what caused this breakage? What influence would the mass/volume of the moon have if added to the mass/volume of the earth?
@the0fart0machine A current theory suggests that there was a collision between the early earth and a mars sized body. The moon formed from the ejected material, while the earth reformed itself.
@BlackRaptor31 I have heard that Venus struck the earth(Velikovsky). The mass of the moon and volume would indicate that the satellite is not a solid sphere. When I hear scientists say, we have no evidence for x? What I would prefer them to say is that we have no evidence to contradict an alternative theory put forward.
J. Isn't it still theory tho? I mean you said, "plate tectonics is a fact." The Scientific Consensus is, "as we now know", not proven fact, just theory. Not that it can't be, but thinking i'm riding on "hell" everyday of my life kinda creeps me out.
@gcraw1 I think you don't understand the meaning of theory. A theory explains observations and facts. Plate tectonics is a fact. And the "theory of P.T.", explains the "fact of plate tectonics". i.e.: I see you this morning with a loaf of bread, walking from the shop to your home. This is a fact. The theory would be "He or she has bought a loaf of bread in the shop with money". The theory explains the fact. I think you are using "theory" instead of "conjecture" or "hypothesis"; review it.
@GeologiaES Actually, your example of 'he or she has bought a loaf of bread' is a hypothesis, not a theory. A hypothesis is provable but not yet proven. A scientific theory already has evidence for it. For instance, you could test the bread-buying hypothesis, and if it's wrong, you could switch to trying the bread-stealing or bread-borrowing hypothesis.
@gcraw1 The practical difference between the words theory and hypothesis is not great for most of our purposes. The dictionary says a theory has some testing behind it. But I agree about the use of the word law. I would like to see something else that indicates the only fact, that we cannot make perfect facts. But we can get pretty comfortable with things. The apparent fact that our technology advances means we get some stuff about right. If we are riding on hell and can ignore it, no problem
I have an idea... 1. sun prominence, making lava 2. meteors crahs into the smalll lava EARTH 3. radioactive decay burns earth 4. cools to rock 5. icey comet hits earth 6. oceans form to make the atmosphere more suitable 4 life 7. plants grow blah blah blah... 8. microbes eat eachother(grow grow grow) 9. animals come form the fish LAST. Us, microbe, monkey, caveman, civilization, and HERE WE R
This idiot doesn't know that Lord Kelvin's calculations are still valid, and that the Earth would have cooled in 20m years. It's still hot because of radio-activity.
For all the creationist and conspiranoics who tirelessly post once and again that plate tectonics is false: This video is not a forum about what you believe. Plate tectonics is a fact and denying it is like denying that the Earth orbits around the Sun (surely that is real news for some). So, please, stop posting irrelevant things not related with JUST this video. Much appreciated. J.
that video explains how the earth was formed but what about other theories thats scientists have like the big bang theory was the universe formed from it?
@K3KCT Our sun is a third generation star. This means that other stars had to die in explosions before our solar system could form. The first stars that appeared after the big bang, were powerful, they fused hydrogen, into heavier elements, like silicon, iron, oxygen, etc. When these stars ran out of fuel, they exploded in supernovas and from these debris formed our solar system. I think it's really cool when you think that the atoms in your body were once in the interior of a star.

jerrylittlemars 11 months ago
@jerrylittlemars the big bang was created by all the particles in space being to so concentrated in one area that it eventually exploded (the big bang) witch is why the universe is still expanding and why space is infinite.

@MsMisspoppie Money and power are just so futile but have shaped our history ever since the bank was created. They allways knew our ecosystems could support a max population of 1B, or a controllable 500M. They allso knew something big was on the way, so, latest way of exploiting all they could was to populate as much as possible to create fast tech and wealth evolution, get'em sick on cancer, hart, diabetis, mental, etc, desies and suck all their money.
brastaviceanu 11 months ago
@MsMisspoppie Humans are responsible of poisonning the planet, not for the blend of BIG cyclic changes on the way. See, that's the thing: polar shifts seam to happen randomly but, in fact, it's a mix of circumstaces like time in solar cycles; solar system configuration; electro magnetic fields on Earth, nearby planets, sun, nearby solar sys, galaxy, etc; plate tectonic configuration and condition; etc, etc, etc. Magnetic fields extend infinitly but weaken with distance and interact with each other

BlackRaptor31 1 year ago
All this is a load of crap, how would all the collision happen all of a sudden if there isn't anything to make it, and explain to me about the big bang, how would something come from nothing, this is all just another way to say that there is no God but there is
muntu1221 1 year ago
@muntu1221 After a cloud of space dust is formed, this starts to form a whirl, where most of material is accumulated in the centre (Therefore forming the Sun). External groups of material would lead to different planets, moons, asteroids, comets... Gravity is the force that makes mass of this size to become attached, and gravity is also what makes it be a sphere. If you want to learn about Big Bang, buy a book by Stephen Hawking or Brian Greene, but not because you don't grasp it, it is false.

If this was how earth was made. Then were did the water come from? (Answer my question)
konshus17 1 year ago
@konshus17 my guess is that as the earth's surface cooled, all the vapours and steam from the molten rock started to condense in the air, forming an atmosphere which in turn would cause precipitation (rain). as this process carries on for millions of years, with the earth getting colder and colder, more and more water would start appearing.
EsotericSilverside 1 year ago
@konshus17 " Then were did the water come from?"
Hope that helps.

@Lanlost the earth is not expanding because of platetwctonics new crust is formed and old crust is destroyed and this cycle will continue for the rest of earth's life the magma has it's own convection current powered by the core
UBtherulerzhere 1 year ago
if some meteors joined together and made EARTH , why the earth is not expanding anymore? .
one more thing: in your video you show us the earth moving in chaotic form when it was being made, why is the earth now moving in its line in solar system and is not anymore full of fire and vulcano?
illyrianchest 1 year ago
@illyrianchest: What?
If multitudes of objects were hitting, it WOULD expand.

the0fart0machine 1 year ago
@the0fart0machine A current theory suggests that there was a collision between the early earth and a mars sized body. The moon formed from the ejected material, while the earth reformed itself.
BlackRaptor31 1 year ago
@BlackRaptor31 I have heard that Venus struck the earth(Velikovsky). The mass of the moon and volume would indicate that the satellite is not a solid sphere. When I hear scientists say, we have no evidence for x? What I would prefer them to say is that we have no evidence to contradict an alternative theory put forward.

J. Isn't it still theory tho? I mean you said, "plate tectonics is a fact." The Scientific Consensus is, "as we now know", not proven fact, just theory. Not that it can't be, but thinking i'm riding on "hell" everyday of my life kinda creeps me out.
gcraw1 1 year ago
@gcraw1 I think you don't understand the meaning of theory. A theory explains observations and facts. Plate tectonics is a fact. And the "theory of P.T.", explains the "fact of plate tectonics". i.e.: I see you this morning with a loaf of bread, walking from the shop to your home. This is a fact. The theory would be "He or she has bought a loaf of bread in the shop with money". The theory explains the fact. I think you are using "theory" instead of "conjecture" or "hypothesis"; review it.
GeologiaES 1 year ago 29
