  • Reminds me of an old kids tv show..Land Of The Giants.

  • Hormby make the best train sets in the world at model railway exibition in Leigh Lancs

when i was at the Turnpike Gallery & i recall seeing a spoof advert Hormby Privartised Railway set

  • He'd have been in serious shit if a spider just happened to be on the layout.

  • Nowadays it's prices from £120- £520

    Lol

  • man i would love to be hornby size for a day or two!

  • bernard cribbins. roy castle. newsround. parkas. pumps. tarzan swing. playing army. nudie mags in a ditch.

  • @rightfredsdead Brilliant!

  • even the adverts are worse now than they used to be :/

  • I've got a feeling this add led to ledgislation regarding adverts..........Which is bollocks cos, while I LOVED this advert, I NEVER for a minute thought it was real!

  • can i shit on the tracks please?

  • good advert

  • 'Use your imagination'? Lol, as much as I love Bernard Cribbins I'd like to think I could imagine something better than him walking around my train set.

  • he says shit at the car

  • What a brilliant ad!

I'd bet it did wonders for their sales at the time?

  • Oh wow I remember this advert thats what they don;t do these days add humor into the ads this advert convinced me to get a trainset what a good decision that was

  • .......and he wasn't even wearing a yellow jacket! LOL

  • i know right? lol

  • @taffy1967 I remember that set , saw it in an old argos catalogue around the eighties! I remember the record too! Would be worth a fortune now that set with the record!

  • Bernard Cribbins...good in any decade!!!

  • Should have got the 10th doctor with his tardis!

  • This ad has pretty good special effects for its time.

  • thats great! why dont hornby still make tv ads????? cuz thats genius!!!

  • Blimey - check out the prices at the end . Sets from £24.65 to £133.85 - that was a friggin fortune back in 1980 !

  • £133.85 - I think that would be about a year's pocket money!

  • @tonythetyger99 blimey, you got a lot of pocket money! I got about 50p a week!

  • @tonythetyger99 More like 4 years! The average "pocket Money" in hte 80's was 50p to £3 a week. It would be cheaper to buy the real railway today! lol

  • @wobbers99 I used to earn £1.80 a week doing a paper round in those days. You had to rely on birthdays and Christmas to get train set stuff!

  • I remember this advert and I've still got the short lived APT Train Set that appears at the end. It's still got the then current Hornby catalogue and a flexidisc 45rpm record (a flexible vinyl record for those who are too young to remember) with Bernard Cribbins talking about Hornby trainsets.

  • LOL Imagine Bernard was still standing on the track when he said, "That's the last time you play with my Hornby trains set!"

And the kid's like, "Oh yeah?" and turns the dial all the way forward! XD

  • lol!!!!!!

  • Brilliant!

  • this is cool

  • I like that! :-)

    Greetings,

    PierreMaerklinFan

  • Interesting old advert.

I see these are now illegal - as in pretending to be minature size and walking round the station (honest!).

Furthermore, the Health and Safety of pushing a VW off the track! Did you notice he didn't even look behind him before crossing the track wow!

  • 0:36 lol what a funny noise he makes

  • Woah! Those prices are really expensive considering its 30 years ago!

  • Fine Fish wagon at 00:20

    Really good advert

  • they need to make moar of these adverts now

  • Great vid. Is that the stroppy guy from Fawlty Towers - The Hotel Inspectors?

  • Yes!

  • I thought so! LOL! XD

  • Still hilarious! HA! Thanx fur sharin'!

  • This advert is alot better then the modern Hornby ones,it depicts the trains moving at an alot more realistic speed.

  • ok see u soon!

ohai! xD msg me. id is on my profile. GN

  • What a great head of curls Bernard's got here!!!

  • Remember it well, but a lot of commercials were memorable back then.

They aren't now (with one or two exceptions).

Appearing trendy to those within the commercial world is now more important than appealing to the public.

    It's bizarre.

  • Thats a funny advertisement!

  • YIPEEE ive been waiting to see that for 30 years many many thanks!

  • That must have been way ahead of its time, no? Bluescreens and all that.

    Clever advert.

  • Its the cut down one from 1980 as its got the APT set in the closing caption! The original was from 77 with the mail coach included!

  • can you put this on Megaupload please?

  • Marvellous. I think this is from around 1977, the same year I got a Hornby train set. It was great.
