Everytime you watch tv or go to a play they show you how much the mind CAN be like a tape recorder when the effort and the talent is there. @Quranite Yes, I have heard of a Quran memorizer (hafiz). It’s one thing to memorize something that you can refer to--the written word, another when it is not. But I also am familiar with the frailties of short-term and long-term memory (mine included). So it is still problematic for someone (or groups of people) to retain faultless memory for any length of time, especially when it was believed the eternal lives of everyone in the world depended on it, no small matter.
@mehstgful There were early texts in pieces and spead about somewhat that could be referred to. The Uthmanic text was codified just for this. They could refer back to writing, but memory was the main vehicle. Dont' speak from experience about your memory. Your memory is not like every else's memory. There are really talented folks out there and these folks helped to preserve the Quran. Also the minimal discrepancies show that peoples memories were not perfect., but close to it.

We know the Qur'an was revealed to Muhammad in different styles. Different areas of arabia use to recite the Qur'an in different dialects. The reason why Islamic scholars introduced the vowels was because many non-arabs were unable to pronounce the verses of the Qur'an so in order to recite the quran just the way it was recited in the days of the prophet Muhammad the vowels (fathateyn, dhamma tayn etc) were introduced.

He isn't being critical to keep people away from islam. Quran was memorised BUT text was the authentic because it can only unify different readings. I m sure you know that a hafiz may forget much of quran after 5 years. Kindly read hadith concerning one Quran verse collected from Abi Khuzaima.
The memorisation was important in quran preservation but it was text which was counted as authentic. Remember, Uthman sent WRITTEN copies of Quran and not Hafiz/qurra all over the Islamic empire.

Everytime you watch tv or go to a play they show you how much the mind CAN be like a tape recorder when the effort and the talent is there. And when groups of folks spend the better part of their whole lives doing it . . . and reciting and practicing just one thing . . . The fact that there are small discrepancies shows the imperfection of man but the phenomenal agreement gives credit to the talent.

@Quranite Yes, I have heard of a Quran memorizer (hafiz). It’s one thing to memorize something that you can refer to--the written word, another when it is not. But I also am familiar with the frailties of short-term and long-term memory (mine included). So it is still problematic for someone (or groups of people) to retain faultless memory for any length of time, especially when it was believed the eternal lives of everyone in the world depended on it, no small matter.

@mehstgful There were early texts in pieces and spead about somewhat that could be referred to. The Uthmanic text was codified just for this. They could refer back to writing, but memory was the main vehicle. Dont' speak from experience about your memory. Your memory is not like every else's memory. There are really talented folks out there and these folks helped to preserve the Quran. Also the minimal discrepancies show that peoples memories were not perfect., but close to it.

Mecca and Medina were actually settled cities, and Yemen actually had even more settlements with water and agriculture. Not everyone was herding animals either. Why don't you go visit people who still do this in Somalia and the Sahara or Timbuktu, maybe then you will be convinced. Dictocratic islam is not the subject here.

We know the Qur'an was revealed to Muhammad in different styles. Different areas of arabia use to recite the Qur'an in different dialects. The reason why Islamic scholars introduced the vowels was because many non-arabs were unable to pronounce the verses of the Qur'an so in order to recite the quran just the way it was recited in the days of the prophet Muhammad the vowels (fathateyn, dhamma tayn etc) were introduced.

Ridiculous logic: some old and non-circulated parchments of Quranic texts containing a few different letters and formats now have to be considered the oldest and the AUTHENTIC copy of the Quran? The fact that billions of Muslims and non-Muslims read the true copy (without any variation) is not sufficient evidence of the uniformity of the Quran??!! Alternative explanation: some guy around 600AD made errors when making the copy. As a result, the copy was not circulated.

He isn't being critical to keep people away from islam. Islam does a good job of showing how barbaric and oppressive it in countries like saudi arabia, iran, pakistan, afghanistan so he didn't need to draw attention to its flaws.

Quran was memorised BUT text was the authentic because it can only unify different readings. I m sure you know that a hafiz may forget much of quran after 5 years. Kindly read hadith concerning one Quran verse collected from Abi Khuzaima.
The memorisation was important in quran preservation but it was text which was counted as authentic. Remember, Uthman sent WRITTEN copies of Quran and not Hafiz/qurra all over the Islamic empire.

Ridiculous logic: some old and non-circulated parchments of Quranic texts containing a few different letters and formats now have to be considered the oldest and the AUTHENTIC copy of the Quran? The fact that billions of Muslims and non-Muslims read the true copy (without any variation) is not sufficient evidence of the uniformity of the Quran??!! Alternative explanation: some guy around 600AD made errors when making the copy. As a result, the copy was not circulated.

Similarly,you DONT STUDY ISLAM FROM A NON-MUSLIM.
why do these guys never debate with a Muslim scholar on these issues.
oh,i forgot,they have tried it but they always lose.they dont find any other way to stop Islam but by making these things up.

@umerjavednisar UNFORTUNATELY YOUR COMMENT STILL APPEARS IN MY INBOX. Why can't Dr Ger Puin be an islamic scholar? Is it because he isn't a muslim or from an islamic state? If thats your theory thats almost like saying you need to be french to teach the french language. Ive never heard such garbage. He probably knows as much about the quran as your own scholars.

Despite what the rest of the world thinks, the above story is disturbing and raises serious questions to any human, regardless of their faith.
And that is what I find Muslims are not willing to honestly discuss and remotely admit that these laws are categorised within the mainstream authoritative teachings of Islam, which is distressing.

@ferdowsi88: the biggest problem with the quran is muslims are not able to agree on certain aspects of its translation , but the quran itself claikms it is "Crystal Clear " in its meaning and thats not even the biggest problem , you then have the hadith wich further divides the islamic world , the fact is its man mad and full of imperfections :-)

U just did mention "TRANSLATION" not the Quran itself, if u r aware, i am sure u r not; arabic is unlike english and a particular word or phrase can be interpreted differently but the ESSENCE of its meaning is the same in CONTEXT.

"hadith" does not divide rather brings forth together people. Nor do you know the difference between hadith or Quran, Hadith is sayings of the prophet, thats why it is kept separate. The Quran is the word of God, Hadith is something that bridges the gap of common questions people may have in their life, it humbly points about on many topics that may seem unclear in our daily life.

religious people are not scientific or even logical. so this video will go over muslims heads. people become attached emotionally, regardless of the belief. look at scientology for example. faith has nothing to do with facts. thats why religion is so dangerous.
