@1Thompsonmusic so the point is for it to not sound "normal", then? I think the whole problem with all of the "artists" is that they throw the score out the window

What would you supporters of this impostor have to say about the "golf applause" by the audience? They look totally bored and unimpressed, as would I be if I were in their seats.
Haha! I like how he slides his fingers up and down the keys as he plays. Amazing piece..so many keys though..you would have to put so much time into just being able to play it..:O
I think this is one of the most beautiful pieces from Chopin. Its sentiment... its emotion... its just exquisite... im looking forward to finish learning this masterpiece.
At 1:26 I get a picture of sun rising up above the mountains, with small African children holding their hands under a clear shiny waterfall and them jumping about with glee in the fountain- Chopin your music is very beautiful, amazing, yes i'm a man and when I listen I do get a tear in my eye
Nice! I suggest that you should also listen to Argerich´s version of 1965. It´s my favourite. Unfortunately, it is not on youtube...you can find it on grooveshark.
@kewihateskews sounds similar to me. well it means that they are both cool pianists then. But Rubinstein was the grand master, so obvious enough. He has more experience than Yundi li! Maybe give a new wave like him some more times to be a grand master like Rubinstein. ok?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@goodguysdoll Exactly. It is a pretty impressive impersonation, but it is not the real thing. Kissin is the real thing. DeLarrocha was the real thing.
There are many composers who have written for instruments they can't play, so writing music that you can't play for instrument that you are experienced on because it's too hard doesn't seem too far off, if that makes sense. However, it is absolutely ludicrous to say chopin couldn't play this piece I agree completely with you there.
Well I think it would be weird to say that someone like chopin would compose something he, himself couldn't play. However Schubert on the other hand (ahahah get it since he damaged his hand and couldn't play anymore! aha im so funny :] ) He made piece that he couldnt play many times :D .,... all the time :D
@kczapper chopin wrote pieces like his etudes because he was one of the best pianists of all time lol It was his incredible technique that allowed him to write these technical nightmares!! Peace, TT
This is not very personal playing and so many garbled notes in the chord playing. He is cute but that can't be a reason DG thought he would be a good choice for recs. There are at least 500 other pianists with more technique and more everything.Toomany pianists in the world as it is.Toomany competitions offering what. just go teach at a university. No openings a million been there for 50 years! SAD !
@Qbafix definately, i feel a lot more passion in pogorelich's playing, its like hes aboout to give his life to the piano if it ment to win, which i find amazing that a pianist can show that much passion and his playing style is just soooo.... unique! its amazing!!
Personally I don't like yundi li's interpretations of chopins scherzi. he plays the nocturnes, polonaises and ballades fantastically, but the scherzi just don't touch me the way he plays them.
One of my most favorite pieces by F. Chopin. This is one of his most tragic and mysterious pieces. Best of his Scherzos for shure. I would like to play it by myself. But it is TOOO difficult!
@musicpiano14 I didn't find the technique for this piece that difficult. Figuring out the rhythms and bringing out melody is probably the hardest part.
Well, you know of his live performance on Youtube of the 3rd movement of Alkan's Concerto for Solo Piano (there are two, the one that is under 9 minutes long)? When you get familiar with his studio recording (also on Youtube) and then you listen to the live recordings, you can tell the errors and spots he misses notes, primarily because he took it a tad too fast.

I hate to be nitpicky with notes, but he really does make a lot of mistakes (extra notes, bass off by an octave here and there, wrong chords, etc.) in this performance. He either didn't memorize piece very well or is just really tired after playing the other scherzos before this one.
I enjoy Yundi Li's work, unlike most asian pianists I've seen, he actually has musical feeling and doesn't ruin a piece by playing fast, soulless, and technical.
Oh no - I've changed my mind again. He's TERRIBLE. Just listen to that glaring bombshell at 0'19" followed by a propulsion upward in his seat at 20". The latter is his body language speaking louder than the noise coming out of that piano. You couldn't play louder and flashier if he tried. Later today, I'll go back to being a devoted fan.
@organman52 all your comments REEK of jealousy. What competitions have you won? When is your international concert tour. Typical mediocre musician and armchair warrior. Sad.
@vanessafabulay for you information ms. vanessafabuly, (sounds like you're a drag queen) I happen to know organman52's identity I can assure he is one of the greatest musicians and performers that ever lived. You make an imbecile of yourself with your assumptions. And his comments are right on, and do not appear jealous-based to me, just fact based. I totally agree with him. Get over your obsession with personalities and start becoming a real musician. But I know you won't. Sad.
@goodguysdoll How sad that you think I give a rat's ass what you think. If you don't like Mr. Li's playing, why stop here? I listen to the MUSIC with my ears, not with my eyes. You and your sad boyfriend Mr. organman are unhappy, bitter people. Bye now.
This is without question the most perfect interpretation of this piece I have ever heard. I am now going to leave the same comment on every one of Maestro Li's videos. He is my IDOL ! ! !
if yundi li had white skin and brown/blond hair, he wouldn't criticize yundi li like this lol
sorry, but an asian won the 2000 competition, much to your disgust. im not a fan of yundi's facial expressions, but a fan of his interpretations of chopin's music

@organman52 all your comments REEK of jealousy. What competitions have you won? When is your international concert tour. Typical mediocre musician and armchair warrior. Sad.

@vanessafabulay Oh if you only knew what you were talking about.

This amuses me with the sheer intensity that organman52 rebukes otherworldly claims from his own...

he's obviously racist...
if yundi li had white skin and brown/blond hair, he wouldn't criticize yundi li like this lol
sorry, but an asian won the 2000 competition, much to your disgust. im not a fan of yundi's facial expressions, but a fan of his interpretations of chopin's music
