  • Whenever I see her play I am reminded of a litle mischevious fairy the way she is always dancing around the stage.

  • I absolutely LOVE watching this woman play the violin/fiddle! She's freaking CRAZY! Absolutely amazing! Such talent!

  • ...è come trovarsi in una favola.....la favola più bella.

  • Beautiful performance. It's quite amazing that, with all that energy, not once does Mairead's hair ever get caught up in the violin.

  • The old guy is dancing and sitting on his chair. Lol

  • I love how she quickly looks up right before she starts playing... almost as though on her soul level, she knows she's connected to the Divine when she plays! Truly amazing!!

  • Where can I find the sheet music for this please?

  • How can someone dont like this? O.O

  • @vaninhamusic4me The fools probably think that it's somehow fake or synched.

  • 2:03!

  • What a magic combination that is - just the solo violin and the appeggio vibes at the beginning (after the pipes) - like cool rippling water in a Highland stream. Never realised it was so effective before I heard this - and cant say I've heard it anywhere else either,

  • am I the only one who couldn't see her wings?

  • @KenSicX No - your not alone - Nobody else could see them either 'cause she aint wearing any.

  • @KenSicX I think angels lose them when they fall from Heaven

  • @MyGamer125 If she were a fallen angel, she would be evil.

  • @KenSicX...we use special lighting that makes them invisible...

  • The guy a 2:55 just cracks me up every time!

  • I saw her perform this with an orchestra, a reduced band, and David at the piano in Lansing, MI last month - sitting in the balcony, 6 seats away from the stage...most incredible thing I've seen. David, Mairead, the orchestra players, even the conductor of that concert was having a grand ole' time with it.

  • <3 her

  • hi, so beautyful song!

someone know what is the instrument in the beginning of the music,( start to 0.04sec and finish to 0.24 second on the music) just before she starting to play ?? because its listen like a "flute" but wich one ?

    thank you for your answers

    SxPi

  • @SxPI I would assume it's some sort of pennywhistle or traditional irish whistle

  • @filmscoreman12...Exactly right...it's a penny whistle..one of several instruments belonging to the "Tin Whistle" family...

  • Idk why when I listen to how beautiful some music is, I cry. I cry everytime I hear this song. It is just that beautiful

  • I just absolutely love watching her play. She is so beautiful and free and happy and talented.

  • I just found a site that advertised lyrics for this song by looking "Granuaile" up on Google. WTF?!

  • The hotter she looks, the better musician she is and the hornier you are XD

  • @CarolvsRex Id love to disagree with you but i cant

  • Horny guys! XD

  • one word "ADDICTED"

  • I want to know where she keeps her wings?????? And I can't decide....angel or fairy????

  • @chsuperme i think fairy...the music suits :D

  • I think I'm in love.

  • I read on twitter that Mairead got a standing ovation tonight in Buffalo, NY when she performed this song.

  • @TripBoomLikeThat

no doubt, i play this song atleast twice a day, love it

  • Are you kidding me?! ...she has this memorized?!!

  • i love this song

  • totally amazing

  • I'm surprised that we didn't see smoke coming from the strings! She plays like there's no tomorrow.

  • @kelceejofarra yeah, it's amazing

  • what does playback mean

  • Vanessa Mae sucks!

  • @bigestbeerman SHUT THE FUCK UP MAN!!!!!!

  • @bigestbeerman thats not vanessa mae. Thats Mairead Nesbitt

  • she is insanely amazing.. 'nough said.

  • one of the most talented musicians I have ever seen and heard! wow!

  • so cool

  • 28 people can't dance and play the fiddle in heels... Ok probably none of us can xD That's what makes her so amazing :)

  • @PowerlessWithoutGod

Actually shes barefoot alot of the time when she plays

  • Like a fair!

  • @KeyeM2: No, she is playing live :) And it is awesome!

  • No it is noting like The deviel went own to ga

  • @Viconia9 I like it too. It reminds me of an 11 year old. lol

  • @gaeilge1O1 I shall listen to it now ......

  • I love how she interacts with all the performers!!!! She is soooo awesome!!!

  • ok this woman is my heroine ive never seen anyone move like that while playing a violin *bows*

  • She isn't barefoot. You can see a closeup of her feet around 3:19. But those are flimsy shoes that couldn't provide much support. She's practically barefoot.

  • Esta mujer es absolutamente maravillosa, WOW, su forma de manejar ese instrumento, Que hermoso...provoca bailar...es divertidísima...Uff Super WOW!!

  • I'd do a leapin, twistin, bear huggin dive into a cactus to see this stuff live.

  • lol I'm glad I'm not the only one dancing like an idiot while listening to this. Did you guys see the guy in the audience? That is an older, toned own, male version of me. I love them so much! Why can't we have music like this here?

  • Isn't she grabbing the bow the wrong way? Either way, that was certainly AMAZING, my head would explode if I tried to walk and play at the same time.

  • @AllHailAkemi There really isn't a wrong way and a right way, as you can see. She's jumping around, so of course she'll have to hold it in a different way than if she was sitting down.

  • @Mr19thIndiana don't forget her bare feet! :)

  • aint she lovely! her smile and all?

  • 1:58 !!!!! The best note!!!! xDDD

  • Like all truly great musicians, she makes it look like the easiest thing in the world.

  • .` fantastic..! XD

  • Perhaps the contendor for 'the glummest member of the orchestra' award goes to the statuseque violinist in the background at 0.46 who looks as if he's about to burst into tears.

In contrast the cheeky chappy in the foreground playing the pipe has a twinkle in his eye. But Mairead tries in vain to make him chortle and produce a couple of bum notes. Keep trying gal.

  • @jezkn Perhaps he knew that he'd been beat and had to lay his golden fiddle down by Mairead's feet.

  • @MoltenMozzarella Niiiice.. Did you mean that to rhyme? - is it your own or is it a quote from something? - sounds like it ought to be ...

  • @MoltenMozzarella So true.

  • haha u can see meav waving her arm in the back round on 3:12

  • My angel:)

  • poet!

  • What i cant understrand about this - is the dead pan reaction of the orchestra. The audience are fantastically responsive (wish the old chap had stood up and danced a jig) but the orchestral players look so wooden and postively glum whic his in such contrast to her impish performance of child- like delight.. Some of them look bored out of their skins!. Such a pity - although i suppose it makes her shine all the more. SPECTACTULAR. (I got up and did a jig ....!)

  • @jezkn Absolutely. If you want to see something even more perplexing, watch the guitarist's reaction at 1:03 and 2:13. They should be more like David Downes, support her playfulness.

  • @IntoTheMystical Yes I noticed that too but I didnt want to be too critical. It's almost as if they were embarassed. It's the 'over disciplined fuddy duddy' way they're trained I suppose but you would expect more 'personality' off a guitarist surely? even if he is a regimented 'big band' one?

  • @IntoTheMystical Look I'm new to this lot and I was utterly captivated by this 'Celtic Nymph's' performance - both the movement and the playing., and the interplay with the boring 'dead pan' 'straight guys - giving them the 'come on' and teasing them hehe) !!!! But I couldnt find any other videos of her doing this sort of thing on YouTube. Can you point me to any? I love the Dulaman piece too. But there is something truly magical and unique about this performance. Educate me will ya !

  • @jezkn Yes, you do expect more from a guitarist, and he does get more involved in their next DVD. Search for:

Slumber My Darling / The Mason's Apron

Celtic Woman The Coast Of Galiçia.

    Also

Celtic Woman - A New Journey - Reels

    Celtic Woman - The Voice

    Celtic Woman - The Contradiction

The violinist name is Mairead Nesbitt, and The group is called Celtic Woman. You will get addicted to them, but they are extremely talented and entertaining.

  • @IntoTheMystical Thanks for that. Yes she has quite a thing going with the 'hairy biker' drummers doesn't she, who atleast give her the adulation she so richly deserves (but they can be a bit distracting !!). But of all those you have listed - this is definately the pick of the bunch in terms of the perfect balance beween playing, dancing, running impishly about, teasing and flirting, and of course the quality of the pieces themselves. MORE PLEASE ... MUCH MORE !!

  • @jezkn Yes, i agree that this is her best song - she actually co-wrote it with the conductor David Downes. About all I have left is a bootleg video of a live show called "Mairead Nesbitt of Celtic Women plays Violin Solo".

Just put Celtic Woman into the search, you will find dozens of great songs!

  • @IntoTheMystical She wrote it? So it's not 'traditional'. that's truly amazing. It's got elements of 'Celtic Rock' about it with that syncopation and the changes of rhythm and then there's the 'Vivaldi four seasons like chords' in the middle. Well you got me hooked! I been under a bit of stress recently and this is the first piece I turn to - to 'beam me out of here' and make me smile (laugh out loud infact). It's just joy -- sheer joy ... and Im not tiring of it.

  • @IntoTheMystical Oh I just thought I'd tell you I stumbled upon this amazing performance on YouTube with some of the dizziest dancing yet by Mairead - which got me 'dancing (and tripping up) in the aisles' -incredible - (but expect youve seen it)

Celtic Woman - Níl Sé N Lá im ZDF-Fernsehgarten 2011

(ignore the ponderous and bizarrely irrelevant German introduction)

  • @jezkn Well, these are the Irish Film Orchestra players (and they're brilliant) - one would presume that (since there was rain, they didn't get much of any run-through before the concert) they were more focused on playing it right...

  • @filmscoreman12 Yes - top notch. And as regards 'deadpanness' I wouldn't have it any other way. They are playing the straight guy to Mairead's mesmorising magic. And it makes me chuckle even more to see how unresponsive (and even bored) they are towards her. The contrast points up her mercurial mobile talent all the more (apart from David who's bouncing about on the piano a bit - getting well into it! - and the cheeky pipe player chappy!).

  • @filmscoreman12 Thank God for the Irish fiddle bow hold! Otherwise we'd always be stuck with seried rows of unmoving string sections or static soloists contorting their faces as if in their death throes. I wouldn't change a thing on this video (nor a note!). It's up there at the very top of: 'what YouTube was made for' videos. YEAH!

  • she really is my favorite... cause she is my inspiration on how to enjoy playing violin

  • tinkerbell!!!

  • She should be my husband :)

  • Dear God, it's a wood sprite!

  • I saw her play this live a few days ago. She broke her bow strings while playing it. Vids of her playing it doesn't do her justice. You have to see it live.

  • @renalanford300 really? then how did she continue to play?

  • @duchyof6b08 It is not uncommon at all for individual strings on a bow to break.

The strings on the violin do not break.

  • love the face at 2:30

  • @gaeilge1O1 Close. I was thinking more like pixie, sprite or fairy. But yeah, "angel" would fall into that category too.

  • Wow! She can't be human.

  • She's just amazing!

  • im sitting in front of my screen and im like awww so cute and sexy aswell when shes dancing over the floor with her fiddle :D

  • I think it's amazing that her hair wouldn't get stuck in her violin xD (sorry for my bad English...)

  • What I wouldn't give to see this live.

  • @gaeilge1O1 It almost looks like she gos into a musical enhanced trance as she plays. The energy level is phenomenal.

  • i bought their DVD but cant bear to open the wrapper

  • @gaeilge1O1 I know, I was just wondering if it gets so stiff that she needs help to get it back down at her side.

  • @gaeilge1O1 How long does it take for her to be able to lower her left arm after a show? I know I sure would not want to arm wrestle that little pixie.

  • a pixie. nothing but a tiny ball of mischievious energy

  • She is sooo awesome!!! She is my favorite violinist EVER!!

  • She's amazing! She reminds me of a fairy because she moves with her music and it's like she can't sit still! Way to go Mairead!

  • not a faerie they don't play the violin obviously an elf.

  • all the people have to see and hear this to know what is a real music ... amazing

  • She must be the goddess of the violin...

  • HOW does she jump around like that and still play so smoothly???

  • WOW.... she's amazing violin player....... i love this song

  • She is so amazing!

I wanna play like her some day! :D

  • makes the devil went down to georgia look like childs play.

  • She is absolutely amazing. My favorite song by her is Bluelights Within The Blue Suite

  • The Irish people are so intuitive musically. It's awesome to see it engrained in their culture the way it is. One night at a pub in Doolin or Athlone or a stroll on the streets of Galway or Dublin and anyone would soon know what I mean.

  • omg what is she good!

i dont believe my ears !

she is to good to be truth!

  • @liuyulian98 Now I'm learning with my daughter too.. Even I almost 3 times of your age.. It's never too late to learn something new.. lol

  • This is why my daughter want to learn violin. She's 4 years old!

  • @artsdio That's great! The younger the better. I'm already thirteen and I'm only starting. :-P

  • the first time I saw her play, I swear I fell in love

  • wow... it's great thing she doesn't lose her focus. I love Mairaed!

  • She is not wearing any shoes either but their music is something I can listen to all day.

  • 26 people suck

  • She's so INTENSE! She kinda reminds me of Tinker Bell in the way she gets totally into her work =)

  • Ladies and gentlemen Mairaid is the first person to ever be able to ignore the laws of gravity.

  • Great song.

    Mairead is a fiddlemaster.

The song also has a great story within.

  • It´s impossible to sit during this song!!!

  • I envy her!!! She plays so beautifully, it's really is magic.

  • I LOVE that you can see the joy in her expression. You can tell she just loves it!

  • very nice, beautiful, No tattooed mulatos or quadricoons jumping and swearing about with every word a curse, Noo revealing and tacky whore like clothing, just an angel come down from heaven to entertain with her violin and celtic music

  • she reminds me of a sprite

  • Wauw :) I also like Mikkel Povlsen - The way home

  • Have been waiting for them to come close to Denmark, so I could to to one of their concerts.

  • @gaeilge1O1 yes, i'm

  • going to a concert in a couple of weeks, can't wait.

  • At 2:04, Mairead gets that "determined" look on her face, but in concert, she actually does this while making eye contact with the audience, something few performers actually do. When her gaze hits you, its like a laser beam! You kind of don't believe she can do this kind of playing and dancing until you actually see her do it live. When she flies right past you, you know the legend of the "flying fiddler" is actually true.

  • @1sorryham Not just in this clip I find the group to be extremely energetic and it seems there really enjoying what they are doing. One of the few groups I actually enjoy to see performing not just hearing it. Can only imagine how it would be to actually be there.

  • Has anyone noticed she doesn't have any shoes on?

  • @FaerieMagick001 that's what I've been trying to figure out ... it looks that way .... or she is wearing type of real thin shoes

  • @FaerieMagick001

it is easiest to play the violin without shoes. Because you feel more natural in your feet, and your balance is that much better, so you feel better playing the instrument :)

  • Granuaile is my ancestor. I am very honored that this angel would play a song after my ancestor.

  • She is Angel !!!

  • Im in love..

  • lol she's SO amazing she makes it look like the dancing and jumping around is the hard part, not the violin she's playing.

  • She's an elf. That explains the hair, she needs to hide the pointy ears.

  • WOW! SHES AMAZING! ive tried dancing/jumping with my viola and its REALLY HARD. and shes so enthusiastic about the peice! awesome.

  • Definitely Mairead is the "Pixieland Express". :D

  • @mimiller8 aaww thats cute..I like that..hehehe

  • The guy at like, 2:58 had the right idea. She's like a pixie, flitting around flirtatiously. It's fantastic!

  • she reminds me of a pretty little pixie!

  • ela toca muitoooo! =]

  • Everytime I watch this , it's like the first time! amazing

    she's got no shoes!

  • a sprite from the days of old

    dancing to and fro

her music makes the heavens weep for joy

the angels are envious of our dear friend and her wondrous talents

the children of Danu would seek to claim her as their own

in her lovely melody i can see far back into the roots of my Celtic family tree

a distant heritage i would love to know

just because of her oh so delightful show

  • Hey look! Fairie's exist! :D

  • @texasgirl2299 so clap your hands (:

  • @Faucharde It's called 'Hours and hours and HOURS AND HOURS AND HOURS of life-dedicated practice'!

I should know, I play the violin too. XP

I really want the sheet music for this... But of course, something this great isn't as easy to get as just logging into Amazon. XD

  • como essa moça consegue tocar e dançar ao mesmo tempo? isso é incrível!
