would you recommend a workout program for bigger upper body and rib cage, and loosing mass on the quads. I have big quads (always have) and from deadlifts and squats they are even stronger, but my upper body is really small in comparison. I really want to expand my rib cage
its my 1st month since i started doing my workout with videos of athlean x. and it really helped me a lot, i see the changes coming and i'm really happy with the results. Thanks Sir Jeff for the great tips, more videos please regarding workout on shoulders and chest. More power!
I have a congenital anomaly in the lower part I'd my back, so I basically have a 6th lumbar in my lower back. The L6 witch is not sopose to be there. So I was doing a bent over barbell row and ended up messing up my back. Now I have back problems and have to see the chiropractor for 35$ for 5 minutes. That's alot of money down the drain for an 18 year old. Do u know much about a congenital anomaly Jeff?
I play football and last season I took a pretty big hit and landed pretty hard on my back, and I haven't played as good this season... this exercise really helped me get rid of that pain I've had and has helped me feel better than before in my movements... thanks for this video man
@h2dude69 you should do both dont just choose one theyre both great but i doubt itll happen to you ive been using them for awhile :) but hey try it for yourself if you still are scared then do whatever works for u :)
I love this exercise.I do this with a combo of my bands and medicine ball, combining plyometric explosive movement in the low back plane with torso rotation to hit everything powerfully for 4 sets of 25 reps...and add I isometric tension for 5 seconds on every 5th rep. So reps 1-4 are as shown plus explosive torso rotations right and left, the 5th is held for a count of 5 while squeezing the medicine ball and every muscle group in the back with only 50% strength. Man it's a monster. Rips in 2 wks
Hey Jeff, I have only just started watching your videos, and im pretty impressed. I would be really greatful if you did a video on building the arms, chest, shoulders and back. I appreciate the videos.
Nice job jeff. I love the bulletproof series! You give me inspiration to keep going to the gym. Not that I'm gay and not that's there's anything wrong with that! But I always go to your videos and do the workouts at my gym and I have every chick in there looking at me like they wanna take me to pound town! And you know whats in pound town? The "SAUCE!" and the chicks love the sauce, alittle extra protein for them... Thanks for the help Jeff! I love you! Not in a gay way of course!
Hey Jeff I'd really like to try this excercise but i'd need to order the bands first. Do they come in a 2 pack or is it just one per order? I"d really appreciate it if you could get back to me. thanks.
I have a chronic rib problem between the shoulder blades and lower back pain from years in the Corps under a ruck and flying Apaches now. The rib is a ligament issue, but I'd appreciate insight.
hey Jeff, great stuff...can u really point out the main reason(or reasons) for 'back spasms'.....and how to address these issues with the proper exercise. been playing football(soccer) and i have back spasms which keep relapsing....thank you man...cheers
Videos!! You have been changing the way I workout, look and feel for over 2 years. I don't own your system but I really I am making it a priority. ( Thanks to you, I'm now know as the "chubby kid who got buff over summer break") haha
About 6 months ago I started doing some morning stretches that involve the upper body folding to the lower body. After 3 weeks I experienced a LOT of lower back pain. I wondered if the stretches caused the pain and sure enough, they did. I stopped the stretches and after a month, I regained my lower back health. I'm going to try this particular workout demonstrated in the video to prevent any other injuries. (today is my back workout, so it will fit in perfectly)
I noticed that my upper chest is far less developed than any other part of my body, and that having a big middle and lower chest looks funny without much upper chest. I found only a few upper chest exercises on your channel, (thoroughly analyzing your tips) and I'm still having a problem with feeling a really significant amount of contraction in that area. I'm wondering if you could come up with some more exercises i could try, maybe as one of your next bulletproof series videos. Thanks
@ diddle. If you have stronger overall back, it will help keep everything aligned more, this exercise is perfect for people with back problems cuz it's like a therapeutic exercise that ties in the entire back, thus supporting the spine more efficiently. If something is weak and brittle, you gotta strengthen it bro!
most lower back problems occur because people cant sit upright correctly while using the computer, and most of us dont even realise we're sitting in a harmful position, this resulted in me having lower back problems and i was only 14 !! .. now im 16 and havent suffered any sort of strains or muscle problems since a year :D
ive had back problems since the age of 14, better since i went to a proper chiropracter. Playing rugby helped a hell of a lot to strengthen the muscles a bit, still get a few problems now im 18
I injuried my lower back from putting something heavy down rather than up, I did squat down but I lower my back which cause the injury. It been 2months now, almost fully recovered, only time I get pain is when riding my bike.
hey guys, real stoked just got athlean x, diet isnt bad at all, and I dont need the gym workout plans but they are great. Alreadt in great shape but wanted to get that little final cut, cant wait, thinkin bout a month is all i need
I'm thinking about getting this program but of course money isn't exactly shooting out of my ass right now and I'm just that little too worried that this might not work. Damn you confidence!

I'm 15 years old and I've got some minor scoliosis. I have pain in my shoulder blade and lower back every now and then. Is it alright for me to follow the AthleanX program?
My back is all jacked up. L5 S1 compression. Always great to see what you have new to help us 40+ guys prevent injury. Just an added note; I purchased the AthleanX program and it rocks. I did your leg workout today and just about had to grab a bucket to puke in....... keep up the great work

suffered a back problem twice in the last four years
1st time i jumped off the back of a ute at work and couldnt stand up straight had to be taken to the hospital.
2nd time after an intense gym work out, woke up the next morning and couldnt get out of bed. Or stand up doctor sais probably related to the first and i needed to strenghten my core my back isnt under so much stress....Which is why i bought the ATHLEANX Programme
I do get back problems from time to time but you bring up a great point with hamstring strength and flexibility. It all aids in giving proper form in lifting
Not only have I had back problems, I've had spinal surgery. Terrible experience, and not something you ever want to go through. I can tell you from first hand experience that, thematically, integration is where it's at. Engaging your core into everything you do is the best way to protect against injury. Isolation is the quickest way to trigger a problem.
Yes Jeff, I do get lower back problems. It is not too serius, but every morning when I wake-up, I feel some back pain. It is usually gone withing 30 minutes though. I will get some lower back pain once in a while during the day. Maybe one avery second week.
I haven't had any back problems... That said I am only 16, and I have been working out for quite a while... I want to avoid any serious injury at all cost. Which is why I want you to make a video where you discuss stretching, I wanna know when and how to do it properly, so that I can avoid injury!
Yes, as long as i can remember due To mild scolioses in upper back and hollow lower back. Though I imagine a lower back in my case could be the result of weak abs and belly fat.....BUT, I'm an Athleanx body under construction candidate!
could you make a workout to increase punching strength, i know obliques, legs and shoulders are important but it could be cool if you could make a original workout
hi, thanks for the videos....was wondering if these are appropriate for tennis or golf or do you have a sets of videos set up for specific sports or ones you would recommend for some sports and not others.......
i had unbelievable back pains after i broke a few ribs. started MMA and never had a back problem after that! i would also like to see some lat exercises on here
Im 17 and i have lower back pain, I've started to stretch everyday for at least 20 minutes and try to do hyper extensions 3 times a week and it helps a lot
@TheRTCMusic dips are really effective for lower chest if you lean forward while doing them, also do pushups with ur hands angled in towards ur body for lower chest there too
Yes, I have suffered from back pain all through my sport playing years. Now that I sit a desk all day I have tons of lower back pain from being compacted all day. Great video! Lets keep it going team athlean!
ive had a lower back pain for months before i learned how to lift heavy objects properly, but these exercises make my back feel much more stable, thanks!
I've had lower back pain since I was 15, I'll be 30 this year. Tried chiropractors but never got results. My back would lock up and I couldn't stand up. This year I've been doing a stretching program on my kinect and it's been helping A LOT. It's exactly what Jeff just said about the Ham's being to tight. Wish I would've heard that 15 years ago.
Have had lower back pain twice. Once due to a nasty fall, and the second time not long ago I pulled a muscle for improper form while doing a leg press. Both instances the back healed and I have no issues now. I, however, have had a shoulder problem for about two and a half years.
I've just watched the bulletproof back vid, I have had lower back trouble for 25 years due to an injury when I was younger so I will try the band exercise and see how it goes.
I've had a lot of back problems due to hypermobility - both in my lower back and upper back, and trying out this exercise I didn't feel even the slightest tendency of pain in my problem areas.
The 'trick' is to get the lower back in the correct position, after that it all works automatically.
Hey Jeff, I would like to know if there is any videos that you have posted or any work out in the program that works on increasing the stability and strength of the knees?(currently on the third week of the program).
I got lower back pain from doing pickpockets with 25-35 pound plates. people said it would work obliques...after a really long time, no results. Then i found your oblique workout and started doing it once a week (and abs on a different day) and saw results faster than i have ever seen them....no more pickpockets, and no more back pain! Thanks Jeff
Great looking exercise Jeff. I'm gonna give it a try at the gym today. Will give you my personal opinion once i've done it. Keep the videos coming. Would love to train with you someday. David, Under Construction Fitness Trainer
The thoracic paraspinal muscles are the primary extensors of the lower back, not the muscles in the lower back. I see here two mid back exercises. For lower back rehab it's better to work on abdominal bracing and core stabilization exercises.
@Charliedballamaster How does a stronger midback put less pressure on the low back. You're still supporting the same weight, and you still have the same weakness of the muscles in that region. Ff you had a problem with the foundation of a building, fixing problems on the 30th floor doesn't help.
Hey Jeff this exercise is great I've had back problems now for 5 yrs I'm 29 yrs old and had a Lumbar Laminectomy L4-L5-S1 at 24 yrs old I'm going into week 7 of your program and being an EMT not only is the program make me feel better and look better it's helping me out on the streets to I've lost 115 lbs to this day and this program is taking me to the next level to help me reach my goals I'm going to throw this exercise in the program now Thanks Jeff
I have 2 questions if you could find time to answer this.
1: Where do you get those elasticbands and is it possible to tie them to a doorknob or somesort.
2: I'm a pilot and just got a new work schedule of 5 days a week from 7AM to 11-12PM and have 4 days off. How do you reckon I could train like I used to in those 4 days?
oh man.....i've never seen such a thing before.....fantastic.....i'm having back problems because of my trainer who knows nothing about training......i'm will definitly get that 90 day program...
Hey Jeff. Excellent program, have recently purchased the system at it is awesome to work out like that. I just have one question
Sometimes when I wake up and during the day (it happens two-three times a month or so) i feel a pain in my chest, right where the two pecs meet in the 'split'. And sometimes it is so bad that it hurts doing a push up. But I don't know what it is that hurts, because it doesn't feel like the muscle, more the bone or something. You know of this? Greetings from Denmark!
I suffered infrequent lower back pain from ages 15-30. Then upon relocating to the Alps I suffered frequent lower back pain every winter season from ages30-35 (snowboarding season). Finally I got smart and started a gym membership two years ago and haven't seen my chiropractor since. I focus on my core, legs, and shoulders from fall through winter and then give my arms and chest more attention for t-shirt season in spring and summer. Thanks for all your great tips, I really appreciate them!
The body works as a whole, for example tight calves cause tight hamstrings which cause tight glutes which cause back pain. Jeff you are really good at coming up with exercises that involves core stabilization along with all parts of the body, you are a.real fitness guru not all these body builders who only live by old school techniques. Keep it up. Can you come up with a bullet proof stretch routine?
for 2 years i sat mostly every day all day mostly. i also had bad posture when i sat. then, started getting a pinging stinging sharp lower back pain if i moved in a certain way every now and then. so, i started sitting and standing with good posture all the time, shoulders back, stomach in. also been working out a lot (3 or 4 day / week) doing bent rows, deadlifts, squats, good mornings (going for med/high reps, NOT high weight), plus stretching like bridge, cat,... now, back pain is gone.
Lots of back pain from around L1-L5. With disk issues, I think it has affected the soft tissue around the area. I have to be very careful if I lift something then have some twisting motion involved.
I've had lower back pain for a few years.I was always to afraid to try any 'lower back training' at the gym. a couple of weeks ago i started using really light weights, doing lower back excersizes. My lower back is building up strength and isn't hurting anymore.
Yes lower back pain and I'm only 18. =[ I WAs doing barbel bent over row and I think I arched my back to much on the last set. I was out for a week but I'm almost back to a100%
Is there an equivalent to this exercise if you don't have a means for horizontal resistance like you just had with the bands on your weight machine? Is their a rubber band version on a stability ball?
I've got severe lower back issues, from tightness to occasional spasms. Jeff, I just got your program, and you're instructing us to do a lot of crunches. Last night, I did the v-twist, and woke up this morning with severe lower back issues. Is there another way to mix up ab exercises besides just plank and stir the pot? Thanks.
my lower back has bothered me since I broke my left leg surfing, it was an over head day and my leg it healed 3/8" shorter than before the accident. I have inserts in my shoes since then, I'm a jitsu student and that agrivates it once in a while...need to stregthen those really small stabilizer muscles...hoping this will help me out, i'll keep you posted
I've had upper back pain for the last two or three years, up inbetween my shoulder blades, its constant but not terrible painful, just more uncomfortable when i do back workouts, as a result my backs definitly lagged behind
would you recommend a workout program for bigger upper body and rib cage, and loosing mass on the quads. I have big quads (always have) and from deadlifts and squats they are even stronger, but my upper body is really small in comparison. I really want to expand my rib cage

Would all of what your trying to achieve not be done with a Deadlift? Not that I'm trying to criticize, as I'm one for variety.

Hi Jeff
I've just watched the bulletproof back vid, I have had lower back trouble for 25 years due to an injury when I was younger so I will try the band exercise and see how it goes.

Awesome in it's simplicity!

Thanks Jeff

The thoracic paraspinal muscles are the primary extensors of the lower back, not the muscles in the lower back. I see here two mid back exercises. For lower back rehab it's better to work on abdominal bracing and core stabilization exercises.
Diddle1414 8 months ago 13
@Diddle1414 When the upper/mid back is stronger, it puts less pressure on the lower, making it do less work, therefore helping the lower back...
Charliedballamaster 8 months ago
@Charliedballamaster That's a great story, but I don't think there's anything to actually support that claim.
Diddle1414 7 months ago
@Charliedballamaster How does a stronger midback put less pressure on the low back. You're still supporting the same weight, and you still have the same weakness of the muscles in that region. Ff you had a problem with the foundation of a building, fixing problems on the 30th floor doesn't help.
Diddle1414 7 months ago 2
@Diddle1414 you went to school for this or do you just read a lot?

Jeff:
I have 2 questions if you could find time to answer this.
1: Where do you get those elasticbands and is it possible to tie them to a doorknob or somesort.
2: I'm a pilot and just got a new work schedule of 5 days a week from 7AM to 11-12PM and have 4 days off. How do you reckon I could train like I used to in those 4 days?
Cheers

Thanks.
