hello, are there a special training to make a Labrador an effective retriever?

The labs specialty is retrieving, is in its blood, but you can work on some things related in hunting. Some dogs are afraid to gun shots, some other dont have the discipline, so the training is based on improve those kind of things. In this case, my dog has never been trained, he just learn in the field..
