I was a part of the study for this HPV vaccine because I believed in the cause of preventing Cervical Cancer. Both of my sisters had Cancerous cells on their cervixes. However the vaccine itself states in it's own pamphlet that it does "not" prevent cancer!! Unbelieveable! Not only did I waist my time but it doesn't work and it made me sick!! I am a medical assistant and didn't even know that cancer could come from an STD. I was never told in medical school, or by my Doctor. I was told that I have cervical cancer last week. I looked at so many websites... books... and newspaper clipings... and I still don't know why everyone dosen't know about this. Or why I didn't know about this. I looked in my old medical schoolbooks... all it said "HPV causes genital warts" nothing at all about cancer!

You don't have to ask for it. If the pap smear shows dysplasia they will test you for hpv in a second round of tests. You apparently didn't have dysplasia until then. Condom's say that they don't prevent all STD's. When it comes down to it, if you don't want an STD, don't mess around.
You are 15 years younger than me- from my research and personal experiences of 15 years most OB/GYN's did NOT inform women of the test. (And I would venture to say... to all WOMEN now- ASK for it yourself! Don't assume ANYTHING!

Thanks for sharing your story. To clarify, girls should be vaccinated even if they are already having sex. The vaccine, Gardasil, protects against 4 different types of HPV (6, 11, 16, 18) so even if you are get 1 type, the vaccine will protect against the others. Pharmaceutical companies & researchers published on the link between HPV & cervical cancer for many years. Unfortunately, the word has not been spread enough over they years.
