I actually think they do sound like an americanized version of Jamiroquai. They are not as good as Jamiroquai but they do have a similar style in some ways, for example compare "maroon 5 this love" with something like "jamiroquai you give me something". They don't sound exactly alike but they have a similar style :). Anyway, that's just my opinion.
