240/260z (s30) are some of the nicest looking cars ever made.... i like a little bit more the early models with mirrors on the front fenders. it gives it a nice old school look.
to me RX3 and 240/260z are the 2 best looking chassis made from that era.
@WestAutoClub An L26 is an L24 with a longer stroke. An L28 is an L26 with a larger bore. These are effective differences, but not the only differences, eg. one can't take a factory L24 and cut and stroke it all the way into a 3.0L as one can an L28 due to block size constraints.
I'm a Z31 guy and they represented the '84-'89 years HORRIBLY with that..thing...of a Z31 300zx. Also, for my fellow U.S. Z drivers, take into account that Europe had even less restrictions than Japan, so power outputs were usually a good bit higher thanks to larger cams, etc.
@DepressionArtist If ure gna rip the heart out of a 280ZX then ure like every other asshole out there who cant admit the 280ZX has something better than their precious little 240Z :) Noob
@DepressionArtist Hehe, like its a crappy engine in it`s original car. Sorry if asshole seems too strict but I`m a 280zx fan and have been wanting one for a long time, especially the 2+2 ones (Whereas everyone else prefers the 2 seater) so I guess I`m the weirdo here hehe
The Z32 is twin turbo not sure wether or not that is a turbo 350. also the 260 is better than the 240 for modification considering you can put the 2.8 in it and Efi it without need to strengthen the chassis
@saga212" considering you can put the 2.8 in it and Efi it without need to strengthen the chassis" Youcan do the same thing with the 240z. Seriously if the @40z was so week that it couldn't handle 40 extra horsepower then it sure as hell wouldn't be anywhere near safe enough to drive. On that note the 280z is actually the best 1st gen to modify considering it has the strongest and stiffest chassis
dude my 240 eats 260s, and on top of that ive taken out a couple of 240sx's as well. point in case, my 240 is slower than my 2003 vq35DE 350 (the slowest of the 350 line up). i think the only note worthy part of this video is the 300zx pull, and even then that had to of been one healthy 300zx.
Can I just say that NONE of the drivers had a clue how to launch a Z car! Just listen to the engines at start.. they are not even revving the RPS. In a Z you rev to about 4,000rpm at launch and for gods sake do a burnout next time to warm the rear tires. Other than that it was a fun race to watch. But I think if you had real drivers racing all the generation Z's you will see the newer ones are monsters compared to the older Z models. Some of the TT models in the 90's were lethal.
@AcomsRazor1776 I owned and drove hard the following 3 Z cars: 1978 280z, 1973 240z, and 1971 Datsun 240z (which was my favorite). With any of them in a dragrace I could rev at 4,000rpm and back out the clutch at take off and each Z took it like a champ. Z's are very durable and the engines and suspension can easily be upgraded for racing performance. Amazing cars.
@PaladinHludwig I've owned a 280zx, a 260z, and a 280z in that order. and if you truly dumped the clutch like that on a regular basis then you would have caused some serious wear and tear on it. They weren't meant to be drag cars.
@AcomsRazor1776 I agree they're not primarily a car to drag race although they are good at it. If I am ever fortunate enough to own a classic Z again, I wouldn't drag race it any more. I guess age is making me soft LOL. Nice to chat with a fellow Z driver =) you owned some beauties also!
It make scene because of all the safety and lexuriy equipment that car is loaded with. Not to mention all the government regulations of fuel consumption, emissions, and all the other nonsense that car is encumbered with. All of that stuff together poses a major strain on performance.
Where did the 280z fair??!?! I just bought one for 600 and am damn proud of it! I got a hellva a job ahead of me with this rust bucket, but still love it!
But.. the one you see get a bit of a jump (he admitted it afterwards... lol) isn't the same one that crosses the line with the 350. The one at the start's a 2+2... mine' s a 2 seater :-)
the 260Z was the slowest due to pollution crap on the motor - many of them have V8 swaps as the 260Z original is not worth much these days. I'd look closer under the hood at that car.
The 260 had a good driver and obviously got off the line very well. Fair result. And saying the 260s (or L engines) aren't worth much is ignorant.
I don't know if I'd call the 350 and 370 "fat pigs". The 350 is lighter than its Z32 predecessor (which won this race incidentally) and the 370 is lighter than the 350.
thats just in america tho. what we got here in australia was straight from japan with sports exhaust and 50 mm double solex carbs. this was filmed in britain so it wouldnt of been the american version
look out for the 370 an even more refined fat pig. nothing will ever touch my old 73 turbo to bad it was a japanese rust bucket andf I didn't have thousands to make it road worthy.....still drove the pants off her though lol
@Yeajimi also its CG was really low and had perfect 50/50 weight distribution... the new z have nothing on them. even the 2nd gen with the 2.8 turbo is way better

@ToreDL87 dont worry about it fam, its kool.
nd yh all the Z cars have something to bring to the table
i love the 240 tho, best rear panel out of them all. i love the tidy light cluster.
over the years they got scatty separating the reverse lights and all that hoo-haar they did with the progressive models.
and yeah, i'll have one Z for myself (2 seater) and a 2+2 for when i wanna roll with the friends or fam.
be a proud Z weirdo (y) youre entitled to your opinion :)

@PaladinHludwig You dump the clutch at 4K on a datsun And you best have $1500 to replace the clutch and rebuild the gearbox.
