Wow, that is a bad explanation! Mainly because it's wrong.
Species evolve as a whole, so there never was a single chicken or egg that was first, the modern chick phased in over multiple generations.
You are also ignoring the obvious follow-up about the proto-chick and the proto-egg, which evetually has to end somewhere. The reply is that the original question assumes a high degree of identity that is simply not there.
-F- this! LIFE came first! Then it changed and morphed into stuff, giving the proto-chicken which gave the proto-egg, which gave the chicken which gave the egg. It's a simple nonsensical answer, but the best ones usually are. :P
WRONG. the chicken came first. a protein called OC-17 ovocledidin converts calcium carbonate. OC-17 clamps its molecular fingers onto a microscopic particle of calcium carbonate That creates a nucleus, from which the calcium carbonate can crystallize. When the particle nucleus gets big enough, OC-17 can no longer hold onto it. The molecule's fingers detach, leaving it free to grab onto another nucleus and repeat the process. The chain reaction continues until the eggshell has formed.
@stevjen1 and it's absolutely impossible that a proto-chicken would have OC-17? or that even reptiles would have it? or at least one like it that would allow them to produce eggs with shells?
@satanisthetruegod666 OC-17 is found in bird ovaries. Chickens are from proto chickens or birds, but not over a single mutation. it most likely took thousands if not millions of years. Thats how evolution works. Very gradual. The birds have been traced to the red jungle fowl through DNA sequencing and comparing the numbers. Chickens as we know them now are about 7,000 years old. First chickens most likely born in maybe a membrane sac where many chickens died!
@stevjen1 born in a membrane sac... what? that makes no sense, the ancestors of birds have been laying hard shelled eggs since the Ordovician if memory serves. And if it's found in 'bird ovaries' it's likely that their ancestors had the same genes to produce OC-17 and thus the egg came first. In fact counting soft eggs they almost go back to the beginning of multicellular life!
and i'm well aware that chickens didn't occur because of single mutation, no species does.
The chicken came first because the egg is only a way to carry the chicken to birth. It like how we consider homo erectus and homo habilis as humans. There is no such thing as a proto chicken, there is only chicken which had to evolve to lay eggs.
Look God Damn IT!!!!....the Egg came before the chicken. Dinosaurs layed eggs. However, the Chicken came before the CHICKEN EGG!!!! The first chicken-like creature we would all agree to call "a chicken" and not the chicken ancestor WAS NOT BORN OUT OF A CHICKEN EGG!!! It came out of a proto-chicken egg. IF you describe the egg based on the animal that birthed it NOT the animal that it harbors inside. If you describe the chicken egg based on it's contents then NEITHER came first! 100% semantics.
@OrkTv Not totally. a protein called OC-17 ovocledidin converts calcium carbonate. The chain reaction continues until the eggshell has formed.
the way this man talks he may be doing something to the chicken,,,,a egg can not survive without an adult,,,so even if a egg materialized it would die,,
Actually the question is more a test of whether you believe in evolution or creation. Talk to an evolutionist and the answer is the egg, talk to a creationist and the answer is the chicken, because God created it as a chicken.
@BlueFever101 doesn't explain how mammals delect fetus survived without a womb to protect it. creation had to had happen adam being born w/o belly button. if it were evolutionary why do mammals still need a womb 4 survival. its impossible for a fetus to evolve without a womb to carry it.
Great explanation! The egg did come first. It was laid by a creature very similar to a chicken but with small genetic differences. Rewind that logic backwards through a billion years of evolution until living organisms decrease in complexity to the point of being microscopic. The first living cell was made up of self-replicating genetic molecules, which were the result of amino acids and other organic molecules forming in the mixture of elements that were abundant on the primordial earth.
Which came first? The proto-chicken or the proto-chicken egg?
First we need to back up. Proto-chichen came from egg, and so on. So this is infinity loop all to the way when life form was just bacterias. So the question should be: How did bacteria came to life and start evolution?
This stuff is just so deep, we(me and friends) talk about it when we are really high(im sober at time typing) so lets man in white do all the research
well see if ur goin to trace its roots it would go back to the t-rex but thats if u believe in science cause they say a chicken can from a t-rex still it would have to evolve into a pro chicken like dude was sayin but ya i all started with t-rex least that is waht scientist say
If you find a watch on the street, you are not going to think that it evolved coincidently to become a watch! somebody must have made that watch, and made it purposely serve the "function" of a watch. With the uncountable functions of the universe, earth, species.... it would be wise to think that some "one" must have made them purposely to serve the functions they do! Day, night, seasons, procreation, intelligence, feelings... all these functions could not have evolved coincidently. peace XX
@DZFenn You cannot disprove the theory of evolution by comparing a watch to a living organism. A watch is an inanimate object so of course it was created. But who created the golden retriever, the great dane, and the chihuahua? Every breed of dog is a descendant of the wolf, and most of them came into existence in recent, recorded history. Dog breeds are the result of genetic mutations and that is a fact accepted even by Christians who reject the theory of evolution.
Let me explain, In Islam (as well as in Christianity and Judaism) God said that he created the "earth" in a time of 6 days (of a different dimension) not our days. And in my opinion. that is when the evolution could have taken place. It makes sense this way, and it does not contradict the theory. However, the piece that does not fit right in my view, is US (humans), from monkeys? for me the answer is no. thanks for the comment btw
nah.... bacteria was #1, then a fish.. some fish received legs and this thing became a godzillas and some of them birds.. i assume the egg was #1 because bacteria looks just like an egg.. but i am not sure, my time machinery is still under development
A well made video and a well thought out answer to the question "What came first? The Chicken or The Egg". However I think the question is meant to be taken more metaphorically than literally in the sense that the question should be more like "What came first? The first ever life form or its equivalent "egg" ".
@2eraz1 The proto-chicken was born from an egg laid by its proto-chicken mother. If you're asking where it came from in evolutionary terms you would have to look at its roots of origin as a specie. Birds are speculated to have evolved from reptilian animals millions of years ago!
@xostrikexo In actual fact, it's not! The proto-chicken wasn't very different to today's modern chicken but just enough to (biologically) classify it as a different specie.

The egg came first but the chicken egg came later.
also, the proto chicken laid the egg but a chicken came out so the real question is who's egg is it, the almost chicken, or the chicken inside
