Good CD to me~kinda special~u know, like Smiley Smile- The Beach Boys, erm and Little Games - The Yardbirds~ there's some speciality inside them but hard to see it~
Wow. I have this album. I have about everything the Clash ever did. But I haven't listened to this since I first got the record. Its not bad, not bad at all.
THIS ALBUM GETS SLAGGED COS IT WAS THE CLASH and they were gods in the UK... even tho it's just Joe & Paul, if this had been a debut by a new band it would be considered a monster of an album. C'mon - the worst Clash album is still better than a hell of a lot
It's interesting to ponder what would have happened if Bernie Rhodes had kept his paws off this album. It might've at least been better than what we ended up with.
@Themeffect This isnt their best, but I think that people who say that this is crap are "doing what they've been told". Rolling Stone hates this album, kids read it and they have prejudice.
This album will always be special to me despite the fact that it isnt that good, this is the first punk rock album i ever listened to it sparked my intrest in punk. For that I am greatfull.
i actually liked a few songs from this album, but they made this song because jones and the drummer went on tour as "the real clash" that got Strummer pissed so he made this. i like the chorus it sounds ballsy
The concept of Cut The Grap being a bad album, is merely a bullshit point of view created by journalist and rock-critics by the time the album come out.
No true fun of the band, should keep repeting that stupidity.
The album may said to be as good as, say, Givem enough rope.
The band was somewhat eclectic and ar-revolutioning, so no one caring about the depth of its ideosyncracy would fall into the nonsense of telling the bullshit of this one not being a great album, with many good songs.
@raptors11111 The Clash were never without Strummer. From when it started in 1975 until it ended in 1985, Strummer and Simonon were always there. But they got rid of Jones.. the biggest mistake they ever made.
Bernie Roads ruined the The Clash version 2. They had some decent tunes until he produced the shit out of them and kept out the band from playing in the studio.
A lot of people don't like this ending version of the Clash, right before the break up but I think if the record holds up it holds up and it does have a lot of good stuff on it, particulairly this one
This album has its good songs.....We are the clash, Dictator, Are you Red...y, all very sick songs, but when you compare this album to Sandanista or Combat Rock it cant compete
I feel the same way that SHYGUY and jakyboy do, however, they had legal right to the name so they were The Clash (at the time). Following your logic, you could say that Topper was not in The Clash since he usurped Terry's spot on the drums. How far do you go back? London SS, anyone?
Give Em Enough Rope from 1978 , London Calling from 1979 and Sandinista from 1980 are my favoritealbums by The Clash ,but Cut The Crap album from 1985 doesn´t feel like a REAL Clash album without Topper Headon and Mick Jones! Well, "This is England and this song are two okay songs but Cut The Crap is NOT their best album! The real Clash died after the Combat Rock album from 1982 :(
@louiscfc93 The Clash is my favorite band, but they have a few less than good songs, to name one or two: Red Angel Dragnet, or one of their experimentals: Silicone on Sapphire(?). But in fact, their unreleased song, The Beautiful People are Ugly too, is my favorite.
This album was about Joe and Paul feeing guilty for fucking up the croup. This is not a Clash album. The real Clash started with the first album, peaked with Sandinista, and died with Combat Rock.
i can understand u liking it but was not the best album by the clash. any clash die hard would know the clash must have jones and topper with out em, there is no clash it's just joe strummer. it's a nice album to listen to once every 3 years
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
That's being charitable. It was their worst album. But really, it was just Joe Strummer and a bunch of nobodys on it. It really should have been a Joe Strummer solo album.
This is akin to that Axl Rose idiot passing off Chinese Democracy as a GNR disc.
So true man . ... on the other hand he made them , so i cannot spit @ his memory but i feel nostalgic , just as i do for other reasons , 4 lennon & b.lee .
nah Joe didn't have much to do with it...read "passion is fashion: the story of the clash" , everyone admits Joe was dominated by Bernie throughout the clash years. That is why it took so long to sack him cause Joe took ages to get the courage to stand up to him. Equally during the recording of this the band admitted they had very little to with it, Joe would just write it and sing it...the entire production was done bu Bernie..so don't try and tarnish Joe's Legacy
I'm not tarnishing his legacy, I'm trying to be truthful about Saint Joe. Read Vince White's book "Out of Control: The Last Days of The Clash" as a counterpoint to Pat and Marcus Grey's book. According to session man Michael Fayne, Joe spent two weeks with him in Camden programming the drum machine. Yes Bernie was at the helm, manipulating the weak minded Joe, but that doesn't mean Joe shouldn't have stepped up if he really thought it was a bad move.
Joe must've wanted to get back to the energy ot first Clash LP's. 4 of the tunes are listenable. Better than his solo " Earthquake weather " cd. The early Clash releases were different between North America & the U.K.
How could they of made a song called " we are the Clash " ?
And also , why does the percussion sound like its been shitty synth generated. And why is the backing vocals on every second line in all of the songs on cut the crap?
a) it was the 80's. you gotta let a lot slide from the 80's. The neon and hairspray kinda rots the brain a bit. b) i'd take this over anything on MTV now any day, any time.
They made this song b/c Mick was trying to get with Topper and use the name The Clash so Joe wrote this song. And I wouldn't call this the worst album in the world. Granted, I don't like it but it beats a lot of other crap that comes out these days.
I think cut the crap actually isn´t that bad. Its just I cant stand thinking about that both Topper headon and Mick Jones had been kicked, and on top of that they make a song called we are the clash. Thats just not right.
This album was made long after Topper Headon & Mick Jones left the group, originally The Clash finished in 1983 but Joe & Paul tried to carry on carrying the torch.
