  • this doesn't makes any sense, jane's addiction split in the 91'.

    how can this be 1993

  • @hueondemierda I think it's a compilation

  • wut

  • i love that dinosaur jr bass tone

  • @BODMONBASSTINGZ it was Lou Barlow..or not?

  • No worries, you only missed a 10 minute guitar fest with Pearl Jam , and the awful Belly with Gepeto - I always used to fast forward the first bit anyway, then fast forward REM' s bit and you've got an unforgettable show !

  • @oysterlovers probably REM's best ever performance.

  • why NO NIRVANA?? i dont understand that shit!

  • @charzzz123321 I think it's because they didn't show up, it's like a joke title.

  • If any one's interested, this is being shown on BBC 4 on 11/11/11

  • Lol J Mascis always messes up the lyrics to Get Me... but than again it's Dinosaur Jr. like it matters what order it's in...<.<

  • I recorded this too I remember... Must still be on a tape at my parents.

  • shit though... drunken butterfly!!!???? wicked.

  • er. the fucking bass solo on dinosaur jr. get me!!

  • I think this was a late night show that kept out Nirvana cuz it was so AWESOME! Now that's what I call a t.v. show!

  • @TNTIV Nirvana les parte el orto a todos esos giles

  • why no nirvana ???

  • man.... time hit j mascis like a sac of bricks.

  • @losingmyreligion6767 YEah, no shit, he's aged like a US president in office for the last 20 years.....still makes awesome music after all these years unlike so many other bands from the era.

  • @lmrdjm275 its true. the last maiden, leppard, and ozzy albums were... awful. just awful. i liked the last mascis and dino jr albums though.

  • the vast supply of jazzmasters lol

  • @FoolishDrunkz lol i know dude fucking beautiful

  • I remember taping this of the telly show and watching it loads with my mates. Ta for posting it.

  • Jane's Addiction,Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth. Now that would be an awesome tour.

  • J. Mascis absolutely murders that solo. This guy is so clutch!!!

  • this guy sounds like a pee wee herman wanna be grunge....

  • @7kole4 lmfao pee wee herman grunge wannabe ? :3

  • @AmethystAnarchyAngel

    Thats how i desribe it..

  • no nirvana? wtf is that supposed to mean? green eyed monster methinks. fuck this show and the dickheads who decided to call it "no nirvana". bunch of petty cunts!

  • @dreadedwheat26 you know what nirvana means, right?

  • @nagramash15 yes. and your point?

  • @dreadedwheat26 you couldn't be more wrong

  • @pugghead ok,maybe i misread the situation.why am wrong? is it not a diss?

  • Jesus Mascis!!-

  • Could someone please ask Mascis to shut up and stop trying to play guitar

  • @skumrock J. Mascis is the dudeman.

  • @notmyname6 compared to....

  • @skumrock listen to over it, freak scene, and feel the pain.

  • @skumrock troll?

  • Damn, the '90s pwnd.

  • guys...is it really entitled the "NO NORVANA" show?

  • 90s were without a doubt best period for music

  • @Bayview05 I'd say early 90s, remember that late 90s gave us crap like britney spears and n'sync

  • @albertoalejandro0424 that's where it started but it didnt reall arise full force until 2000-2002... I don't consider them 90s music

  • @Bayview05 (Not trying to start an argument) I witnessed the beginning of music industry's doom when payola established those abominations everywhere. We like it or not they were really strong by 1999, when any boy band, Korn, and Limp Bizkit could reach a million of sold CDs (or even more) during the "premier month" of their records.

  • @Bayview05 I dunno about the best, but the early to mid 90's were good. What about the 60's and 70's and even some parts of the 80's?

  • man, Perry must have been on a lot of drugs then, because he looks better now than he did then.

  • Why is it called no nirvana?

  • Oh Sonic Youth

  • dinosaur jr. is just fucking awesome!

  • Does anyone have the pearljam performance and if so can they please put it up on YouTube

  • Man would've definitely recorded this whole show over my wedding.

  • @Desperadounico LOL Ouch.

  • I still have this on a very fuzzy and crappy VHS!!

  • @GerryBeardSeekingMis vhs is the best it's so real!

  • Sonic youth is amazing

  • first time I see Mr Mascis without a Jazzmaster. He still sounds like God.

  • JANES ADDICTION AND PORNO FOR PYROS

  • dinosaur jr........damn that was good.

  • Oh, fuck! Great!

  • Hell yeah for Sonic Youth.

  • Sonic Youth is the greatest.

  • is it really lou ??

  • Early 90's alt rock, hell yes!

  • This show was a compilation of all the Alternate Rock bands that had appeared on the Late Show except for the biggest band of that year Nirvana so its sort of a joke title..

  • @Methstories ahh ty

  • Man, I forgot how bad Jane's Addiction SUCKS!!

  • @vipersb1 I saw Jane's Addiction when "Nothing's Shocking" was out and they rocked. That is a GREAT album. "Been Caught Stealing" isn't their best song but it's OK. I was disappointed in the album it came off of, whatever it was called.

Dinosaur Jr. is the highlight of this clip without a doubt. This is one of the best line ups that J. Mascis has put together.

I think the band that really blows on this clip is Sonic Youth. I've never thought they had any talent whatsoever.

  • Hey man!!

That special is soooo fuc*ing amazing!!!!!

I can't understand how the 90's had such good musicians!!!

is a shame that we lost that essence......it was a grunge so worked, and it was a happy era!!

I wonder if you can share that video with us??

I mean, this is a treasure for grunge lovers!!

  • Why is it called No Nirvana?

  • @alexglauer it was joke 'cos nirvana didn't play

  • DINOSAUR JR!

  • what an idiotic thing to be calling a tv show

  • Shame your missing the pearl jam at the begining, because it was a great verison of alive, with eddie jumping and spinning. and it wasnt 1992 it was alot earlier than that. i would say end of 1991, because i saw it when i was still living at home.

  • @kepners Yeah, The Late Show ran from 1989 to 1995, The "No Nirvana" special was broadcast in 1993, It was a collection of the grunge/american rock/alternate bands that had appeared over the years compiled into one show, I have another video of it somewhere that a friend gave me years ago and it has all the bands, I think i came home late from the pub and had missed the first bit :) As far as I know Nirvana never appeared on the show.

  • @okee9 that is correct. Nirvana never appeared

  • @okee9 is their any certain reason why they call it "no nirvana"? just wondering.

  • @okee9 this definitely isnt 92 or 93 because thats janes addiction!!! :) 91 latest

  • @umumgot This was a compilation of the acts that appeared on the show between the years 1989 and 1995 as i said above :)

  • @kepners Just with Billy Corgan's long hair in pt 4, we know it's earlier than 1992

  • @oamyot Nah, you see Where You Been artwork in the background. That record was released in 93.

  • Awesome - J. Mascis is a GOD!

  • Holy shit drunken butterfly

  • I wish it was 1993 right now. I wanna wake up tomorrow and be in 1993 and not be 10 years old like I was the last time. I wanna live with this music, not just visit it in retrospect.... I miss music

  • Jane's Addiction, alright! Dinosaur Jr., sweet! Sonic Youth...what in the hell?

  • @RzyoMS

Are you kidding? Sonic Youth and Nirvana were the two best (non-underground) bands of the late 80s and early 90s. Thurston Moore has done things with his guitar you (and I) can't even begin to comprehend. And then there's the fact that every band playing in this show were/are huge Sonic Youth fans.

  • Man, I feel so old...

  • Cause Nirvana is never gonna be as talented as the Smashing Pumpkins, nope. Nowhere near it.

    Viva la GISH ERA

  • @jadedandwhirred SPOKESMAN FOR A GENERATION

    KURT COBAIN

    LYRICS

You arent even comparing what hes most famous for

  • @wreklessabandon I miss the 90's like my parents miss the 70's

    guess im getting old ?

  • @jadedandwhirred You got that right sir. I said it before and I'll gladly say it again, SMASHING PUMPKINS!!! Greatest band ever! And awesome video, love seeing these performences in one video.

  • no nirvana??why the hell was that?

  • @Monchi2006

because it was too obvious xD

  • lolll...sonic youth what a joke...seriously....can't believe what i heard

  • @vademax44 Fuck you sonic youth kicks ass

  • Dude this is soooo great.

  • fantastisch

  • ahaha..zero...bullshit...nothing else

  • Whi is this show called No Nirvana?

  • @srekazinskas yeah Why???

  • I can`t believe how much Perry Farrell looks like Ray Davies from the Kinks, they could be freakin` twins. And the thing is they write the same kind of strange off beat songs.

  • @JackHauss He sounds like him too. very similar voices

  • Really good to see this again. I remember watching it when I was 15 (just falling out of love with Nirvana) and wanting to see some of the bands (esp. Dinosaur Jnr and Sonic Youth) who had been doing this for ages.

  • Perry Farrel is my hero

  • 2:06 Love the artwork from 'where you been' ...best Dinosaur Jr album IMHO

  • Is it in the style of Munch? Guy thumbing a lift?

  • thats the one! ...and the guy on the reverse screaming, very Munch like!

  • thanks for the upload. god i remember watching this when it was on BBC2 in the early 90s and even recording it on VHS myself but threw my tapes out years ago! :( shame the pearl jam bits missing but its better than nothing. this was probably only watched by about 100 grunge obsessed UK teens (like myself at the time) but was my first peek at what was happening in America. Most of these bands went onto major sucesss! Another great BBC music show!

  • the bass player for dinosaur jr looks like max headroom! ha!

  • No. Nirvana were from aberdeen washington. read up on it.

  • why is it called no nirvana? is it against them?

  • it was just a guess. i dunno.

    nirvana are from aberdeen washington

  • @paulcharters SEATTLE

  • because it was about bands from seattle, and nirvana arent from seattle

  • NIRVANA is from Seatle!

  • why is it called no nirvana?

  • I see it as a joke. It's a compilation of all the other alternative rock/grunge bands around at that time except for the band that was at the forefront of the whole scene - Nirvana ;) I might be wrong, though :P

  • J Mascis is playing a telecaster!?

  • @craccitijones , naw not a tele, just a superstrat with a tele body, really.

Thing has a floyd, completely different pickup setup,

only similarity to a tele is the shape

  • @SovietSeattle Dude this IS a telecaster... But you know that craccitijones is talkin about J MASCIS not the guitarrist of Jane Addiction, don't you? Because the guitarrist of Jane Addiction is using a 'telescaster', but it isnt a telecaster, just the body is xD

  • hahaha very good point, buddy. i just looked up at the video and assumed he was talking about the janes addiction player, lol

so thats who i was talking about,

    my bad!

and yeap, your right, J Mascis is playin a tele

  • haha, =D

  • J Mascis is god !!!

  • Dam THe sONIC yOUTH performance!

    Very good show!

  • whats the point of the show's name?

  • brush ur damn teeth!

  • steve perkins is one hell of a drummer

  • Go fuck yourself Perry Farrel is awesome

  • why is he you stupid prick, go nosh some cock down.

  • Or should i sit about with my cock in my hand, Cranking because i cant except Perry Farrel vocal performance on a live track sucked dick, you stupid seppo bastard. Kernow Bys Viken you thick twat

  • awesome dinosaur jr performance. thanks for posting

  • i know the answere but just to make sure, why is the show called no nirvana ?

  • @yootesa1515 i dunno...why?

  • Dinosaur jr rocked that one .. so did janes a ddiction.

  • Ah, the 90's...

  • Dinosaur jr ftw.

  • j mascis really rocks here. and man that´s a great bass solo from dino jr.

  • Yea but nobody can replace Lou Barlow

  • hum why is it called no nirvana?..

  • I remember this show really well, and must have watched it about 50 times on an old burnt out VHS... so I can tell you that, in theory, it was because Nirvana were so dominant at the time, and The Late Show was trying to showcase other US alternative acts that were less well known in the UK... but perhaps it was also because Nirvana had never performed on the show!

  • fucking love Dinosaur Jr

  • why where the show called no nirvana?

  • because Cobain stoled Corgan's girlfriend...

  • i just love the sound of his voice,i know its funny but i feel kinda sad when listening to this song, but i enjoy the feeling ,great song, great solo's also.

  • Dave Navarro at its best!

  • I love you too, Kim

  • man, why can't music be like this now-a-days?

  • I agree 100%

  • Mascis playing a Telecaster!?!?!

  • it's not a telecaster. it might be a charvel, but im pretty sure that isn't a tele. There are lots of tele looking models. I think it's a charvel.

  • Its a Fender.Fuck i luv this tune!Great Guitar By J.

  • yea that's not a tele headstock. good call

  • y No Nirvana?

  • it's grunge, but no nirvana

  • lolol i hear this ignorant song everyday at work!!!.

  • Mascis's hat is awesome

  • Dave FTW!!!

  • I have been searching for this since I was 15 years old. My Mum actually taped it for me and I remember watching it over and over again! Thank you thank you thank you for putting this on Youtube. you've brought back some wonderful memories!

  • why don't they put stuff this great on television anymore?

  • there are almost no good bands anymore

  • that bass solo by mike johnson was sweet

  • Great perfermance by Dinosaur Jr

  • that's not dave navarro is it?

  • Yep. The guitarist is indeed Navarro.

  • yea it is

i didn't think it was at first either, tho

he looks way different than i've ever seen him

  • Its not dave because by 1993, Dave had already left Janes Addiction and he joined RHCP in 1994 so he had to be gone by this time.

  • @VaultMusic105 Uh, Jane's broke up 1991.

  • Comment removed

  • @TTOMO nah, they're playing reading this year, check the lineup, not lying.

  • get me really gets me one of those tunes

  • coll song i can't remember the name!

  • Been Caught Stealing

  • I really wish Sonic Youth would've played "Cross The Breeze" off of Daydream Nation, but I figure they were in Dirty / Experimental Jet Set phase arount this time.

  • okee9, you are a true legend for posting this! Finally found it after hours of searching, thinking it was a Later ... With Jools Holland set. Thank you, thank you! :-D
