I love to watch this video and all the other great stuff from Young@Heart. Every single singer of the group stands for Peter Pans idea - You can grow old - but you decide if you stay Young At Heart!
I just love the way they preform this song, it's really good, I love to see them live. I would love to hear Fred do a Johnny Cash song, he has a great deep voice. Just love this group!!!!
@buckerm this actually his last performance with Young and Heart. At the start of "Fix You" you could hear his oxygen machine. Apparently, he never sang this style before, but was a classical singer. try and see the Young at Heart Documentary.....it was on PBS
Thanks for posting this! I saw this on PBS a month ago and the darn song is stuck in my head. I like this version by these old folks, better than the original by the original artist.

hmm while I think they have a good sound it all just seems a bit too played out. Like I am supposed to see some tragic beauty with a bunch of old cats singing some depressing songs. Don't like that
Excellent! These people are amazing and fun and know what life is all about. And a word for falloutman84 and other critics- David Byrne performs with them on several of their songs and is obviously quite happy to share his music. Shame we aren't all so open minded. Watch the whole movie "Forever Young" and maybe you'll gain an appreciation of what they are doing. Hope I am that cool when I am in my 80's!
Respect to them - even if you can't find the original which may be frustrating I admit as I am also hunting that one down - these guys are well cool and I feel that my life has been enriched by finding this. Look on the positive side :)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
you cant find the version sung by the fucking talking heads, and their the ones who made the song. and this isn't exactly the best solution to the problem, for fucks sake
The only problem I have with these videos is they only allow a very literal interpretation of the song. The reason I like Road To Nowhere is because it's not about being lost on the side of the road and getting a ride from some weird hippie guy. However, the song itself is really well done, as is most of the Young@Heart catalogue, and I liked the "mash-up" with Shout at the end... never thought about it before, but those two songs actually go really well together.
I've watched this film a short while ago and I can't wait for the vid.... one of the most uplifting, saddest, funniest, captivating and moving films I've ever seen! What a tremendously interesting, joyful bunch of Golden Oldies, so Young At Heart!!!
Sad to learn about members dying and yet, their Joie de Vivre is so outstanding.... you think they just CAN'T die! FANTASTIC
I went to see this film at the Curzon Soho last week and thought it was absolutely FANTASTIC! I laughed and cried alternately throughout - a rare sight! It's showing throughout the country over the next few weeks at selected cinemas. Make sure you check out the nearest showing to you, it's well worth it!
This is just amazing! They have so much spirit, what an inspiration for us all! I managed to catch the Young @ Heart film in America, but apparently it's out in England soon, so I'll be sure to catch it again. For anyone who hasn't seen it, it's an absolute must!!!
This is fabulous! If David Byrne has seen this, I'm sure it brought a smile to his face. Not simply as a result of the amount of enthusiasm and talent that is shown by Young@Heart, but also because of the sweet justice served to his lyrics by a group of our elders, considering he wrote this song as a reflection on knowing, and accepting, death. I feel like this is a touchy subject for the elders of this world, but maybe I am simply ignorant because of my own youth. Either way, this is great!
(no offence to you or indeed the zimmers - all fine folks & a good cause but . . .) Young@Heart were there first & exist as a genuine community choir, not a group put together for the purposes of a very well-intentioned TV show (BBC Panorama on the isolation & other problems facing UK pensioners). If you have the chance, watch the Y@H documentary - just about the most moving thing I've seen on screen - esp the journey towards the 'Fix You' performance - heartbreaking.
i know, don't worry. of course, their origins are completely different, but both the zimmers and young@heart are in a group for the same reason. to show how you can still be respected singers even at an old age. the one difference between both groups is that the simmers were brought together, and Y@H came together. either way, they both show how you can still earn respect at their age.
Agreed - they're both together for good reasons, but I don't know if TheZimmers exists outside of the TV prog, single release & press furore. I know that Y@H prob wouldn't exist were it not for their MD, who also seems to have a lot to do with their unorthodox playlist but I thought that the 'angry rockstar' antics that TheZimmers were asked to do seemed a bit daft. But, I'll shut up, as you're right - they both have done a good job in exposing the way we patronise or ignore older people.
thank you, but no need to apologize. the antics the zimmers were asked to perform were based generally on the fact that thier first song (my generation) was originally sung by the Who, who were renowned for being a young and rowdy bunch, smashing their instruments and such. but either way, i find that, because of the physical differences seen between the young and the aged, seeing the aged perform what has been for decades "a youthful thing" makes it more worthy of praise.
I didn't know that I'd apologised ;~) I think Roger Daltrey (& living chums) should have been involved in The Zimmers anyway (he turned 64 a few weeks ago). I still feel there's a real genuineness & heart to Y@H that I don't quite get from The Zimmers.
yeah, i know what you mean. it must have something to do with their roots, the way the band started. or perhaps its their style of singing, or because they seem friendlier. in any case, because everything in the world depends on different opinions, every is genuine, one way or another ^^
not bad, supie !!!

I think its depressing, because a lot of much younger people throw their lifes away, or they did love the life lesser then those old people.
Its touching to see that it doesnt end if you rise over.
Thats touching, i hope so deeply that this movie also release in germany.
