This song is the anthem of Jewish partisans all over Europe but it is not a song about a Warsaw ghetto uprising. It was written in 1943 by Hirsh Glick, a young Jewish inmate of the Vilna Ghetto. Within weeks it spread through ghettos of Eastern Europe and became one of most popular and recognizable battle songs of Jewish people.
