This brings back so many memories for me as I used to work for Roadshow home video in the late 80's at their Sydney distribution branch in O'Riordan st Alexander. I used to send all those posters out by the 1000's and all other merchandise mainly to video shops. God those were the days..thanks for the memories.
my buddy has Fulci's Zombie and Dawn of the Dead For his Beta-max,his Beta-Max is mint he has a shitload of titles but havent seen him in a couple years
you've got some good stuff there. That insemenoid is a classic , came out on dvd couple of years or more, with some good extras. I missed out on some great x-rental and closing down sales bout ten or so years back, blast.
G'day mate, just found your channel as I was looking around for Roadshow VHS stuff. I just got a few more to my collection of tapes, including the awesome Naked Fist! Thanks for the tip in this video about the date stamp sticker, I can read now that it was released 27 9 (198)2. It's an early one with the Previews label in the bottom right corner. Quality was great after all these years and the movie isn't on DVD!
I have two Australian Roadshow tapes,Basket Case and Rabid i bought them because i could not find the swedish releases but now that i have them i am keeping them. Really nice to see your videos and get to know more about these Austrailan,New Zealand releases
Thanks for sharing. Just found a copy of An American Werewolf in London the other week in decent condition but wish there were more out there that weren't ex-rental. I have A Force of One mint with a 27-7-(8)2 sticker on it. Who the hell bought videos back then other than video stores? My Blood Beach is also horribly faded. Got a very nice Scanners though.
Old videos for the rental market were so expensive that most people couldn't afford them. It wasn't until later that the price would come down to say $30 for the sell-through market.
Unfortunately ones that are not ex-rentals are incredibly rare. I've only ever fluked the near mint ones. In fact I only paid $5 for the Scanners and Never Dead ones.
I have both the rental and home video versions of First Blood on Roadshow. The rental (1982?) has ads for Class of 1984 and Blow Out on the back sleeve, and the R logo on the sleeve and on the cassette label. The home video (1985) has ads for Rambo: First Blood Part II and The Terminator on the back sleeve, and the V logo on the cassette label (although the R logo is retained on the sleeve). It also has a $19.95 Myer sticker on it, but I paid about $5 for it at a swap meet. Good condition too!
Unbrella released Nightmares "uncut" on dvd recently. I saw that when I was 11 years old so, so much for censership then. The cops laughed and rolled their eyes when I showed it to them
I've got a couple of those old daybills framed (The Sentinel and The Hills Have Eyes), but the rest I just keep rolled up. I'll probably show them in a future video.
I haven't seen the remake to When a Stranger Calls and will probably never see it. I'm so sick and tired of all these remakes!
Awesome, I have to admit as a kid I was pissed off when the back cover didnt have stills from the movie. At the time I thought it was forced by the govt. so us kids wouldnt see things we shouldnt.
I hadnt heard of Night Mares is it nasty in a good way?
Nightmares was nasty in both good and bad ways. The acting, dialogue and plot are completely ludicrous. But the murder scenes were pretty nasty for its time - often sexualised whereby about half the victims are either naked or having sex, or both!
I think Roadshow helped themselves to some shameless self-promotion with pics of other films on the back. This is perhaps partly why they became the home video juggernaut in the 80s.
Loving these tours through your collection! I've got Scanners and An American Werewolf in London on DVD, both through Universal. The later is in a special collection slip...or something like that.
I've got the equiptment all right. I as suprised you collect film posters as well. I have a huge collection too, but they sadly don't get to see the light of day most of the time as they are shit expensive to get professionally framed. I might even consider doing a short vid about my Super 8 and 16mm collection too. Keep up the good work, it's nice to put a voice to the name now.
Yeah I been trying to work out if it was Scanners or Mad Max in the dark blue cover. Never been able to find a copy of MM with a date sticker on it to find out for sure. Maybe one day!
I know! I'm really lucky to have originals. I've also got the originals for The Hills Have Eyes, Dressed to Kill, Prom Night, The Sentinel, Mortuary and others. I'll do a video on those one of these days.

due to censorship restrictions, some titles may not be available in all states ..alot of my roadshow tapes have this written on the back cover.

Palace covers had that advice on the back as well. Conservative states like Queensland and South Australia outlawed some of the more violent movies.

God, that takes me back - I spent hours staring at the covers as a kid at the local video store trying to decide which ones to rent.

Nice one, I remember renting a lot of those from the local video store when I was a kid...these videos are what got me into horror.

You ever considered framing those daybills?
Also, avoid the When A Stranger Calls remake. Terrible, terrible film. Sad to think that the director was the same guy who gave us Con Air.

Thanks! Even if a cover is a bit smashed up, I would prefer it than one of those crappy cut down ones. But anyway you take what you can find :)

"Scanners" was first released in the US by 20th Century Fox Video in 1982. MGM currently owns the rights to he film, along with StudioCanal.

Yeah I think you should, presuming you have a camera and all. I've hardly any Filmways at all so it would be good to see a few of those.

Oh, and the When a Stranger Calls remake is basically the first ten minutes of the original stretched out into a feature length movie.
