I think it gained some fans simply because they did away with the "lip-synced" performances, but hemorrhaged way too many "classic SG" fans to recover. The re-vamp and elimination of the top 10, Lester's lack-luster style and the costuming were too much of a shock to take.
Actually I try to cut all of that off. Don't know what happened here...Ooops! It just leaves more time to fiddle with when dealing with that 10 minute limit. Thanks for offering an explanation of what LPOSLA meant by "big blue"!!
why cut all of that off? ok i understand it's because of CBS trippin i know but Solid Gold would'nt have been so classic without Big Blue. As far as im concerned Big Blue was apart of the program!
They made the fatal mistake so many shows do, after about 5-6 season they try to stir things up to keep it interesting and usually wind up with a soon to be cancelled mess!!
That may be, but this episode definitely sounds like John Harlan - listen to this compared to Charlie O's work on "Wheel Of Fortune", and I think you will agree.
Unfortunately, the footage I have I cannot get to work in my Nero movie maker. There is something wrong and I only have one episode for "Solid Gold 87"! Any help is greatly appreciated!
I recant the above statement!! After many hours of frustrating road blocks, I figured out how to transfer the video from dvd to my laptop. I have completed all 9 representative Opening/Closing for each season and the pilot!!
Curse you local announcer! Now we'll never know who was at the mic for SGiC!

Who are the white guys in suits that look like they can't dance?
palmercomm 3 years ago
What were they thinking of brining everyone out to just boogie. Let the real dancers dance. Glad I missed the demise of sg in their last years

AND THERE GOES BIG BLUE!

referring to the Paramount logo?
speaking of which, I was expecting the CGI mountain, just like I would in post-1987 episodes of Family Ties or Cheers.

It's just my style......

It's not CBS. It's Viacom. I think Charmed has Viaphobia.
palmercomm 3 years ago
No I don't have Viaphobia, it just isn't important to me. I didn't realize it was an issue for others......

Or otherwise the digital Blue Mountain seen on mid '80s Star Trek reruns and on the first two seasons of MacGyver.

He was the comedian on the show. I can't remember his name. That seizure looking thing was his attempt at dancing. LOL!
lbCharmed1 3 years ago
omg, that is hilarious. what is he doing? what is he doing now even? gotta watch again...lol

After the 1980 - 1986 seasons, the show just wasn't the same. These dancers barely danced as often as the previous dancers from past seasons.

Well, it can't be Brad Lachman's fault.
Do you suppose it might?

hey. Isn't that the RI lottery when it was on NBC 10 in RI?

To tell the truth, I have no clue. I acuired the footage from someone else.

I miss Robert K. Morgan as an announcer - John Harlan was more suited for game shows, and Darcel was greatly missed this season as well!

Funny, I found out at IMDB that Charlie O'Donnell announced the final season.

It's not John Harlan. I got an e-mail from the man himself. He never did Solid Gold.
palmercomm 3 years ago
Then I wonder who it was???
lbCharmed1 3 years ago
@palmercomm You'll have to tell him that Wikipedia lists him on its page for Solid Gold as one of its announcers.
dagdogg 1 year ago
@palmercomm It has to be John Harlan. It sounds exactly like him and he has no vocal doppelganger.
