Thank you for making this. I am fascinated with Chicago, and always enjoy being there. I will be going back in less than a week, and wanted to watch other people having their personal adventures. I am glad you took wonder from the city.
I saw an article on line that the Sears Tower is no longer going to be called the Sears Tower as of summer 2009. I forget the new name they were going to give to the Sears Tower.
Coast Starlight... I knew that orange red and black train.
The owners may want to change the name, but it will take a long time to get the locals to change what they call it. Sears has been gone from the tower for a very long time.
The southern pacific Steam train that ran in the 1940's or so that was called the Coast Daylight and it was an orange steam engine.
Today Amtrak runs a long distance train called the "Coast Starlight". The Coast Starlight runs round trip from Los Angeles, California to Seattle, Washington. The Coast Starlight has run since the 1970's. The southbound Coast Starlight is train 11 and the northbound is train 14. My youtube name is for Amtrak's southbound Coast Starlight train number 11.
Thanks. I used to be more of a rail fan. in '77 I took the train from LA to Dallas. 44 hours on what would have been the "Super Chief" and "Lone Star"
I have ridden Amtrak's California Zephyr train several times round trip between Reno, Nevada and Chicago in a sleeper.
Today that train that runs from LA to Dallas is the "Texas Eagle".
BTW: That SP Daylight steam engine is kept in Portland, Oregon and it is going to do a very rare cross country journey from Portland, Oregon to central Michigan and back to Portland.
I am getting shots of it as it runs from Chicago to Durand, Michigan in July.
hey there bill. Cool trip. I love chicago. I live just a bit north of chitown in Milwaukee. Its fun to take the train down to chicago and stay with friends. That big amphitheater has the greatest sound quality. Was nice to hear the symphony play outside on a nice warm summer evening. Great tie too, i have the same one lol
That was very interesting. Did you get a chance to see the Natural History Museum? I once rode a bus from CT to Chicago and stayed the night on Soldier Field. The next day I visited the Natural History Museum and was mesmerized with the ancient egyption display. I'm guessing you were in Chicago on business?
