Triple Axels of Mao Asada and Elizaveta Tuktamysheva :)

As much as Mao's 3A is amazing, elizaveta has a better axel.. However Mao has done the 3A in competition on numerous occasions.

Mao's 3A was better. Elizaveta had a slight bobble on the landing, and the jump was slightly cheated. Mao's was straight back, and it went up higher. It just looked more complete.

@vzzhou Mao'a takeoff is uber cheated, and she squats the take-off which is not great technique. The russian has a better axel than mao. Her landing was also much better and way better extended than Mao's, with better distance on the jump. The Russian has a better check out and run out on her jump as well, that is why her extension is superior. If she can keep the triple she will be strong if at the Olympics, and I can see 3A/3T combinations from her cause of landing speed.

I think Mao triple is more elegant with a correct posture and execution .. They need to give her a nice GEO on her program .

Elizaveta's is better. She gets greater height, distance and a better landing position. In fact Elizaveta's 3 axel is the best ladies 3 axel I've seen since the days of Midori Ito and Tonya Harding.

I like lizas triple axel more because of the landing and the technecike mao tech doesnt look as nice and it looks like she throughs her hips back when she does it this wont be a problem for her but it looks sloppy in some ways

I doubt many people realize, that in terms of statistical likelihood, it is probable that we may never see another accomplishment like what Mao did at the Olympics--putting down 3 triple axels in two performances--by a woman for many decades, or perhaps ever again. What she did is just completely +6 sigmas for women skaters. She is an extraordinary, truly 1 in 7 billion human being. Also, unlike the few other 3-axel capable females preceding her, she is also a true skating beauty artist.

triple axel very difficult but second jump was a double toe loop. definitely, 3-3 is easier than triple axel-double toe loop jump. however, the double toe loop jump is worth only 1.2 marks. that is where she loses all her marks. if she did a triple as the second jump, she could have gotten base value of 12 makes and not 9.7 (triple axel worth more now) and now, triple axel is allowed in sp but mao keep underrotating it.

elizaveta is probably going to be the new olympic champ because i bet she can add a clean triple toe loop after the triple axel,,,, so dont be surprised if yuna kim retires,,, plus if yuna kim retires she has already proven that shes the best!!!! :D go yuna and elizaveta :)

The quote is from Tonya Harding's website. I am not praising Tonya Harding herself but I thought the quote best described what 3 axel really is.

Also as Elvis Stojko said in Vancouver, 3 axel -2 toe loop is more difficult than 3 lutz-3 toe loop.

my gosh if this is the most dificult jump to do, why a 3 3 combination is worth more... i think its really unfair for mao. Like a lot of amazing male figure skaters said, she is the only one who can compete with the guys!

Both girls in this video are really gifted, best to say they are unique!

@ftarica Yeah. In mens skating, especially the Olympics, you need a triple axel in order to make the top. Double axels won't make the cut, unless you can do a quad.

@ftarica The most unfair thing ever is women not being allowed to perform a 3A instead of a 2A in the SP. That is why Mao has always had a hard time beating Yuna-kim because yuna's 3L-3T outcanceled Mao's 3A-2T. If Mao could do 3A, 3F-3Lo, 3 lutz in the short, for example ,she'd be unbeatable. Instead she has to settle down with a 2A, sad.

@weRnarwhals That was something that was carefully explained in the ladies short programm on TV in the 2010 Olympic games. The commentators took their time to explain to the audience why Mao was not going to beat Yuna-kim in the short program no matter what, going as far as saying that putting a 3A in the short was a mistake. Women are allowed to do 3As in the short but NOT in place of the required 2 (double, not triple or single) Axel. By doing that Mao does a 3A with 2Toe (more)....

..that was outcanceled by Yuna's 3L-3T. With the 2A rule, Mao was forced to skate under her level. If she had being allowed to exchange the 2A for a 3A, her jumping content in the short would have been: 3A, 3F-3Toe and possibly 3Loop, enough to beat Yuna-kim or any girl any day...

@tschaikowski i feel like this judging system is dumbing down figure skating. it seems like they're downgrading everything to the point where a skater has to do easier elements just so they don't get downgraded. whats even more messed up is that an easier jump that isn't downgraded seems to be worth WAY MORE than a harder jump that is downgraded. some girls that are internationally competing can't even land past a triple loop, i think there should be bonus points for even trying the harder jumps

@ftarica yeah i get what your saying too but not all 3 3 combinations are are worth more , but the ones that are worth more is because you have to maintain speed to keep the next jump going...,,,the first jump has to be text book perfect to get the next jump nice and clean ( because if a skater were to do a 3 3 and the first jump they land is either under roated or they're leaning, then they cant do the second 3) ....

@yeseulyeseul Actually, Asada does it absolutely correct. Skidding into the jump is suppose to happen. And i'm practicing triple axels myself, and it's harder to even get it half a rotation.Asada has been doing triple axels since she was 12. She's landed them clean multiple times. What make her jump not correct?

@ftarica Well, since the Olympics. Quads and triple axels have increased in points so it could seem more technically fair. I mean, who wants an Olympic champion in men's or women without quad or triple axel. It really makes sense in why they increased the points and why they made spiral sequences a choreographed element instead of leveled. This year, we also need to look at spins. because it will be more picky..
