  • Wonderful!! Bobby sir, all I can say is WOW, God has certainly blessed you! Where do you find the time to tend to all your plants?! After watching your videos I'm exausted, and I havent done anything! I love your green houses, what craftsmanship! Keep up the great work, God Bless!!

  • Thanks for the info I found the bags so what size are the bags you use for the tomatoes. 5,7 or 10gallon ??

  • @rlopez95207 I use the 5, but it wouldn't hurt to step up to the 7, especially for an aggressive indeterminate.

  • Hey Bobby, just wondering how often you water your tomatoes? Mine are kind of sluggish and was wondering if I'm not watering them enough? I currently water every 3 days and the temps. are 60-65 degrees??

  • @GardenGuy1967 At least once a day. But it depends on the weather. On a bright sunny day, they tend to need more water. I just go by what the mix feels like, and how the plants look. At 60-65, the growth will be kinda slow..that probably explains the sluggishness.

  • Another great video as usual,

    very good information.

    I enjoyed it.

    Thank you for posting.

    God bless you.

  • Hi, i really enjoy your videos. if you want to warm up your soil along the outside edges of your greenhouse put in a cold break. dig a trench along the outside walls a couple feet deep and put in some rigid insulation. maybe try it on a small area to see if it's worth the work.

It's nice to here and see the words of faith lived out.

  • @mojoe60 Thx. I have considered doing something like that. I think it would work. But probably the easiest way to deal with it is just to put containers along the sidewalls, and plant in-ground a bit further from the perimeter. Trying to keep it simple. ;-)

  • Gosh Bobby, what a green paradise around you.. This is heaven on earth for sure.. the amish paste tomato also has this type of curling leaves habit, very strange but it does produce.. I am a trencher.. : D for many years....

  • @dianemummvideos Thats where it really helps to know the growth habits of the individual varieties. I wouldn't have known if Bow hadn't told me. Another one that's weird is the OxHearts...like the yellow ones I'm growing. They look like weeping willows all the time, limp as noodles. I'm joining the trencher club too..at least part-time. ;-)

  • Everything looks great! I planted some onion seeds in the fall so I'm hoping to get some of those big fat onions this year. I read that the everbearer strawberries don't put out a lot of runners but mine eventually did. Enjoying the warm weather, take care.

  • @imstillworkin Thanks..I'm gonna transplant my onions into the long bed of tomatoes. Supposedly they are good friends. I've been very impressed with the everbear strawberries. Picked a handful this morning. And I dug up some more crowns and planted them in one of the beds. Hopefully they like their new home. :-)

  • My Daddy always taught me if you cant give someone a thumbs up , dont give em no thumb at all ....LOL...., Things looking good Bobby , I need to get some of those grow bags , they are very funtional and a whole lot easyer to manage than 5gal buckets ....two thumbs up...!!!

  • @bowhunter2439 I'm the same way. If I can't help ya, I sure aint gonna try to hurt ya. Thanks...I agree, those bags are so easy to work with. Definitely worth looking in to.

  • Very good video mhpgardener, I cant wait to see what you've been up too each time you post something. I always learn something new from you and your other subscriber's. Thanks and God bless

  • @slomvr2 Thanks for the kind words. Very much appreciated. :-)

  • Its wonderful to watch your videos, your living my dream life. I started some seeds 2 weeks ago with the intention of starting to live this dream. They sprouted in 3 days a positive sign if I ever saw one. You see I dont have a house or land...yet, still living in an apartment. All it takes is that first step and a lot of faith. Blessings!

  • @recyclingmom I'm 44...I've wanted to be in this situation for many years. Its not easy being patient. But it can really payoff. Nothing wrong at all with growing in an apartment. All of your plants will get extra special attention. I bet they'll like that and do just fine. :-)

  • Romans 8:28 is my favorite verse :)

  • @StephWebb17 You just have to trust Him....its that simple. ;-)

  • can you tell us again where you get the grow bags?

  • @mlipp54 online at discount -hydro

  • I love your outlook on how the Lord provides for us even when we don't realize it at the time! You are truly blessed! Every time I watch your videos and see those tomato plants, I'm blown away...you definitely have the golden touch with those!

  • @chikkagrl It is so true. We have no idea yet what our future needs are. But He does. And plans have already been made to meet those needs. Just another reason not to worry about the future. Thank you mam. :-)

  • nice video im always looking forward to them.i have a question where do you get your grow bags??

  • @rlopez95207 Thx....I get my bags online from discount-hydro.

  • great video all the way through. loved the last part about the "thumbs up, thumbs down". CLASSIC!!! thanks for the video.

  • @drxxragexx1 Thanks for the kind words. Classic huh? nice ;-)

  • Hey Bobby,Last year I started way too many tomatoes. Some started getting leggy so I heeled them in compost pile thinking I would find a place to plant later.Man those things spralled all over the pile, did good except for weeds. This year I`m going to cover pile with straw first to keep maters clean off pile. Man experimenting is fun.See ya.

  • @TheSemperfidude Theres been many a mater grown out of the compost pile. Along with watermelon, squash, etc.... I'm gonna try to do a better job of calculating what I need for planting, so I don't end up with too many plants again. I agree, a little experimenting is a good. ;-)

  • Always love your videos. You've actually taught me a lot. Where can you find/purchase those grow bags?

  • @Stohz Thanks. Lots of places online. I buy from discount-hydro.

  • Hey Bobby,I got a crow to pick with you,its hard to be critical with anything you do .But I was watching one of your old vids. loading logs.Man old habits are hard to break but you got abig one.Bobby ,when you bend over to pick up anything heavy stoop at the same time and use the strongest muscles in your body, your legs.A buddy I worked with for years is now disabled with 2 back surgerys.Luv ya bro ,don`t want to make ya mad. You`re a good teacher,I want ppl. to learn from you for long time.Seeya

  • @TheSemperfidude Well sir, I'd say that was a fair enough observation. And about time somebody said something. I noticed that when I was editing, figured I'd get a few comments on bending my knees. Better late than never. Thanks for the concern ! ;-)

  • You are so diplomatic LOL Blessings my friend hope you are well.

  • @BexarPrepper Me..diplomatic? Just having a little fun with something that is happening way too often to a lot of folks. All is well, except for my Verizon broadband. They still got me throttled down to dialup most of the time, just a bit faster than the speed of smell. :-(

  • @mhpgardener I am also experiencing negative comments I figure if people don't like what I do they don't have to watch me and those that do make it possible for me to help others prep better :) Blessings!

  • Love how you handled the "thumbs" issue right there at the end! I hope your attitude is contagious. Take care & keep up the good works.

  • @MrDieselOnly Haha..thanks. Just from looking around, theres a lot of folks who are having "issues". To borrow a line from Rodney King..." Can't we all just get along?" :-)

  • Collecting and cutting for firewood is a lot of hard work, but what a blessing to have a source. I like grow-bag around the tomato plant idea, too. What a nice variety of plants you got going, too.

  • @modoc42 Yes sir..firewood is labor intensive. But its still the cheapest way for me to heat these GH's. I'm glad to see all this nice oak too, really grateful. Thanks. :-)

  • poor lil truck... you making it work for its supper for sure

  • @itsjustdeb579 It can handle it. It's a Ford! FOMOCO is the way to go.

  • @ZachAttacksPHX Yes sir.... got about 225K on it... gets me from Point A to Point B and back. I can't ask for much more. :-)

  • @itsjustdeb579 I bought that truck new in March '88....we have an agreement. If it keeps running, I won't junk it ! LOL

  • My daddy used to say "You can't teach an old dog new tricks - as long as I learn new tricks, no one can call me an old dog."

  • @iamdoroda LOL... I like it !

  • I was wondering with all the different varieties that you grow do you keep a log book to help remember the results I know I would forget all the finer details must be old age setting in.. Oh and I enjoy seeing the progress, Thanks for taking the time to share.

  • @rchopp I'm not good at record keeping. I do have a pretty good memory though. And if something grows well, I grow it again. If it doesn't and I'm certain that I didn't make a mistake...then it gets shown to the curb ! I've found enough "winners" to where I'm pretty well set on what I want to grow. I will try new things, but not in large numbers.

  • left a bit, left a bit arh Not Again lol

Good vid as always. I'm really interested in the potting method. Thanks for sharing.

  • @HalfQ Ah ha..so it was you ! LOL I have an idea what the deal was, but still gotta have a little fun with it. Thanks :-)

  • As always everything looks great.....I can't wait to see how the roots on the trench tomatoes do compared to deep.....Thanks for taking the time to try this out......Amen brother on the accidents...God is always in control.....I have to remind myself often that his ways are not my ways and God always knows best.....But we are not small to God.....He sees forward and knows you are going to not ALOT of firewood to heat your arena....I mean greenhouse.... :-)

  • @timjturner I'm the same way Tim, I have to remind myself that things arent always gonna go my way. But if I keep looking for the good in whatever happens, I don't have time to see the bad. Good is all around us.....we just take it for granted too often. Yes sir, this has been a mild winter. Gonna need way more wood for next year. Arena? Is that smaller than a hangar? ;-)

  • 101 Likes 0 Dislikes... :) I hit the right button

  • @neuroleptika Nice shot ! :-)

  • I almost cried. With a husband about to lose his foot, after almost a year in the hospital, medical bills eating up our storage cash, my children getting laid off from work, and general depression trying to creep in all the time, I can't tell you how wonderful it was to get one of my own old reminders. There are no accidents, and God does not make mistakes, Boy do I know those situations personally! I know who to trust, but it was the perfect time for your words, HIS words!

    Thank you so much

  • @Sheila6325 I told this to someone recently..."You can never be any stronger than what you have overcome." Over the past couple years or so, you've had more than your fair sure of challenges. But God doesn't put any more on us than we can handle. I think its safe to say that you are a very strong lady. Hang in there Sheila, better days are coming ! ;-)

  • @mhpgardener Amen

  • Apparently we both plant lettuce the same way but theres no weeds between the plants my pok coy went to seed almost as soon as it got big enough to eat but I won't have to buy seed for that next season like you said god knows what he's doing god bless and thanks for another great video

  • @MarshmallowVogt You're right, no way for weeds to get thru. This Pak Choi will be gone in a week or so probably..its some good stuff. So true.... He is definitely in control.

  • The experiment with the grow bag on the trench tomato is interesting. Do you happen to know if anyone has tried that with potatoes? I wonder if anyone has put a second trench over the first one. IE, bend it back over the first run back towards the bottom of the root to make a second layer. If this works out, perhaps a vertical spiral within a larger grow bag? Just a thought. Ya never know. lol

  • @mediamaker2000 I know people build potato towers, with lumber or in wire cages. I've never done it though. As far as tomatoes, theres probably a limit to just how much benefit more roots will do for future production. Just from looking at the commercial growers, as long as there is food, I don't think you need as much root structure. I'm guessing the stem can only carry so many nutrients.

  • I'll take some of that wood if ya have any extra ;)

Things are looking good Bobby, as always! Oh, and what is up with the dislikes??? Must be little kids just clicking around on all the wrong stuff. lol.

  • @TheOntarioGardener Gonna cost a fortune to ship a load of wood to ya. Then theres that thing called labor...we'll need some compensation for that too. How deep are your pockets? LOL Yea...probably just kids playing around. ;-)

  • Excellent! The flow of minerals to the plants is far more important than the specific methods used, especially since sometimes the flow of minerals can temporarily reverse because things like wood chips mixed into soil tend to absorb them quickly, but act as a bank for minerals later. : )

  • @Helioforge Very true. Thats why I don't care to put wood chips into the garden soil. I use them occasionally as a mulch, but thats it.

  • Can't wait to see how the experiment turns out! I was curious about how you watered, how often and how much with grow bags? Thanks!

  • @shadowofjuniperhill I just hooked up some drip lines to one line of tomatoes, and will be working to find the right amount of water. Trying to decide just how much, and how often. I'll try to update that later on.

  • lots goin on bobby!! looking good, say uh, whats the temp there today? you said the cold soil outside was bleedin over... just wondered. thanks.

  • @Hard2HandleRandall Today was cool and rainy, low 40's mostly. Yesterday was steady around 34 all day. This is as close to winter as we've had.

  • Another great video Bobby. Im going to try and grow some tomatoes in a cloth bag that you can get at the grocery store. Never huts to try. Thanks my friend.

  • @Allen2045 Thanks Paula. I reckon they'd do fine in a cloth bag as long as they didnt dry out. There's one way to find out !

  • @mhpgardener Just have to have a few soda bottles with water in them. On your way to work stop dump them in or just trun them upside down in the bag. Will give it a try this spring. Now if I can just keep animals from eating them.

  • Hey Bobby, I accidentally disliked a video once, all they gotta do it click "like" and it will cancel out the dislike. You wont see it right away, but it will.. I know, cause it happened to me once!! lol Garlic is looking good! I'm eager to see how it transplants. I just received my supplies for the year - I'll be hitting that gh hard this week :-) Hope it all works out as well as yours! :-) M

  • @MelodeeRose I didn't know that. I've only clicked dislike 2 times in the thousands of videos I've watched...they were really bad, vulgar. The garlic will be ready in a few weeks. I think I'm gonna put it in the bed with the tomatoes. Supposedly they are good companions. Looking forward to some videos of what you guys do this year in that mega GH of yours. :-)

  • @mhpgardener I'll try - My son gave me his old Mac - so after I learn to use it - maybe I can get some videos uploaded :-) i'm ready to pitch this Dell off of Mt Hood!!

  • I wonder if all the extra energy spent on root growth will dwarf the plant. Up north the growing season is only so long. Great experiment, cant wait to see the outcome!!

  • @flipr7 Good question..wish I had a good answer ! Gimme a few months and I'll let you know. :-)

  • How about a grocery store plastic shopping bag for a grow bag?

  • @CelticSouthland I can't see why it wouldn't work. They degrade pretty quickly in direct sunlight, but you're only looking for a couple months or so in this case.

  • It's all looking wonderful. I am very intersted in your results. We just had a large ice storm roll thru here and took out many trees. This year might be a good year to go hunt firewood thanks for the thought. Power was out here for a day and a half off and on I know others are still down 3 days now. Hope they stay warm tonight.

  • @niffer58 Thank you. Any time the trees are on the ground is a good time to stock up firewood, especially when its in someones yard ! Much easier than going in the woods to get it. :-)

  • Plants are looking so good!! Glad you showed your tomato maker plants. I looked at a diagram from Jim Zamzow about how to get a really tall tomato, do not know what the roots looked like, but he dug a deep hole and put fertilizer or maybe even tomato maker in, added some soil, planted the plant, like normal, so after the tomato grew it would get another growth spurt when it hit the second batch of fertilizer. It is on his website if you want to check it out.

  • @loislaney23 I saw Jim's video awhile back when you sent me the mix. Looks like he does really well. I have 2 plants with the Zamzow, the other one is several bags down the row...looking just as good. ;-)

  • @mhpgardener Oh good, I went to site and they used to have a diagram of how to grow a 20 ft. tomato plant, but couldn't find it. I did print it out a while back. Was going to pm it to you, but wouldn't let me paste it. So I guess I won't. lol

  • The green house is looking good, Fresh greens in Jan is not a bad thing.

  • @lifeinthailand Thx. Fresh anything is good in January ! :-)

  • I buy the growbags from Discount - Hydro (dot) com. Plenty of other places sell them, but this is just the one that I chose.

  • Two questions, one where do you get your grow bags? Question 2 , last year I gave my brother in law some cherry tomatoes and they ended up having a white edge around the leaves. They wasn't in much sunlight (were on his porch) so I was wondering if you know if that might have been why the leaves had white edges on them? Thank you brother. Plants looking great by the way :)

  • @GospelTruth37059 First..discount-hydro .. Second.. The only time I've seen white leaves is when I didn't get them hardened off and the sun bleached the leaves. I just pruned the bad leaves and the plants did fine. I can't think of a nutrient issue that would cause the white edges.

  • Do you prefer tomato cages or the string?

  • @MLZ42679 I'm not sure that I have a preference yet. I like the cages because theres not much work to them. But I also like the strings and the continuous production.

  • I got the right button .LOL looking good . firewood is a beaitful thing ....

  • @mmlrc6atgmailcom Yes mam...split, stacked, and seasoned wood is definitely a beautiful sight ! Thanks Misty :-)

  • Lots of nice looking plants growing down there!!! Figured you’d get a lot of comments on your planting tomato video. Think of all the things in a veggie garden, folks have the most passion about tomatoes but still not a reason for a thumbs down... so I agree, they must have been in a such a hurry to give a thumbs up they missed.... lol. Keep up the great videos. Only thumbs up from this viewer!!!

  • @dustyanderson1 I almost didnt post that video, cuz I wasn't sure it was very interesting. Just goes to show what I know. :-)

  • A- MEN ! I can't wait to see how The roots come out on that tomato plant. I believe if you add the soil real slow this will cause more roots. And I have always planted in the trench myself. Thanks again Bobby...

  • @Teddybearcop48 I'm wondering if its possible to consistently trick the plant into putting out roots at an ever changing soil line? This will be interesting.

  • It looks to me like the tomatoes grow the supporting roots close to the surface. The root mass was much bigger near the surface. Maybe because of the warmth and air, helps the tomato grow a big root system near the suface. If the bag/bucket method works, the bag would be the way to go, like you said.

  • @scottmanb2005 Thats what I've seen, but it would be nice to get extensive root growth further down the stem. I think a bag would be easier too, and cheaper.

  • @mhpgardener It will be interesting to see what kind of root development you will get with the trench method.

  • I love watching the experiments! :-)

Your greenhouse is so cool! Those tomatoes sure have grown! wow!

I sometimes people may try to click on the speaker, but they click thumbs down by mistake.

I think I did that once (not on yours. ) and there's no un-do button. :-(

  • @gardenvespers777 Thank you mam ! I have to be extra careful too..those buttons are so close together. I'm pretty sure thats all it was. ;-)

  • Bobby ... Good going! Keep up your good works. (Gal. 6:6-9). In other words, you reap what you sow, more than you sow, and later than you sow. You are living proof. Amazing and Inspiring. God Bless!

  • @IndianaPlanter Thanks. Yes sir.... thats what I keep saying. Just sow the seeds, they'll come up...eventually ! :-)

  • Hey Bobby looking good sir!!! We are in the process of buying two or three acres in central Mississippi our self, so we are busy busy busy running back and forth from Texas to Mississippi but I always find time to garden! Mr. Bobby could you tell me where you buy your grow bags?

    God Bless

  • @Marlania1 I use Discount-Hydro...but they are available at other places online as well. Good to hear ya'll are getting some space. You'll be able to grow enough to feed lots of folks. Good luck ! :-)

  • Great work! Things are lookin good.

  • @KSPrepper1 Thank you sir !

  • You are right in what you are doing. Most people who garden would not even look at the roots of the plants when they pull them up. You looked and asked why, and you are going to at least try to find the answer. You might find the answer and improve everbody's harvest. You might be the first person who saw the difference in the tomato root system. Go Bobby!

  • @navajopa31 The roots tell you a lot. I'm hoping to understand what they are saying. :-)

  • I was just watching a guy who tested transplanting tomatoes plants deeper and no mater what depth he planted them at a secondary root ball developed at 2" below the surface. Hope this helps. I think it was voodoogarden or praxxus55712, some guy either channel.

  • @jimhuntermj21 both are the same guy and like many still learning, I hope not too many excited folk are hitting the wrong thumb button. happy gardening.

  • @freakygeaktwo Yep.. its that crazy guy Ray on both channels. He's always a cheerful fella. :-)

  • @jimhuntermj21 I'm thinking thats what I'll find as well. I've seen a bunch of Rays videos, but must have missed that one. I'll try to find it.

  • question when should you plant strawberries outside . not in a greenhouse. let me know buddy you doing great. has made me wanting to start some growing. me and Jared will grow some peppers and maybe send you some >LOL i know youll need some!!

  • @Ja72corbin I know very little about strawberries. These came from some Everbearings that we planted last spring. I just cut off a few crowns and potted them. Peppers?..haha, I just started some Trinidad Scorpians that a fella sent me. Can you say HOT ? :-0

  • Hardest workin guy I know.

  • @bradgray51 Who am I to argue? LOL :-)

  • Your plants are looking so healthy and tasty! Always love your videos, they are very inspiring!

  • @madeofyucca Thanks. We had some Pak Choi in a stir fry last night...I cleaned the wok ! ;-)

  • its always thumbs up 4 me. where do you get your grow bags? and are they ok outside in the las vegas sun? or made for a greenhouse? I just have some plants I want to try to see how they do here without taking up my planters. thanks for sharing

  • @SteveHarpster Thx Steve. Discount - Hydro is where I get them. I've seen others use them outside, so I'm sure they'd do just fine for you.

  • @mhpgardener thank you

  • You got some awesome projects going on. God bless.

  • @IllumTheMessage Theres always work to be done. Fortunately is work that I enjoy. :-)

  • Well said Bobby! Don't you just love that greenhouse??? That house shore looks nice!! :DDD

  • @22justus2 Thank you mam. Yes, I do like the new GH. The 2 of them together give me so many options, really quite an awesome deal. :-)

  • I sure appreciate your videos, thanks for your commitment God Bless You Real Good!

  • @gileadbalm Thats good to hear, I appreciate the support !

  • Bobby where do you get the grow bags.

  • @Backyardhomesteader I use Discount-Hydro, but others have them as well.

  • I am continually amazed by you...one of the hardest working guys on youtube.

  • @boat6868 LOL... I'm always doing something. ;-)

  • God is Great! God Bless you my friend. Thanks for sharing your videos, just love to watch them.

  • @marlie501 Yes He is ! Thanks, glad you enjoy them. :-)
