Went to the CNE last week. At least with Crystal Beach it was quick. The CNE is dying of a thousand cuts. I'm sorry that today's youth do not get to experience the Crystal Beach and CNE we older ones remember. Too bad.
Holy shit....talk about depressing....I grew up in Buffalo and every 6-7 times a summer my Dad and I would take the Americana over to Crystal Beach. I did choke up at the end of that summer in 1989, taking one last glorious trip through that magical place and one last flight on the Comet....still can't believe after 101 years the family sold the park to developers, and this is what we wound up with.......sigh............
I cryed when I heard Crystal Beach amusment park was going to close down.
What good times I had there as a child and into my early teens. My first roller coaster rides, the awesome slides, chasing the pretty young girls around. I had always dreamed of taking my own childern there to start new memories with them.... But not so, how sad.
If we do not revere our past we will never have any respect for the future!!! This "Gated Community" as they choose to call themselves are a selfish bunch of squatters!!! Sadly money talks and well try to fight it...
I used to go to Crystal Beach and loved it when it was an amusement park. I miss it so much. It's awful to see it like this now and no more fun times. Ugh makes me sad.
"Written as a series of warm reminiscences from those who took great delight in various points of the amusement park's long history, Rossi's compilation of memories, complete with a treasure trove of evocative photos, colorfully recalls times of joy, thrills and romance at the fondly remembered summer haven, as well as the sadness of the park's eventual decline.
i cried when i watched them rip the park down and then went back to see what these incredible plans had turned into....and i still cry....all that history gone...it's very depressing and so is the little gated community
eeeeeeew CONDOS!!!! how could they do it? How could they tear down our heritage. I'm appalled. I loved going to crystal beach as a kid...have lots of happy happy good times~!
Ontario isn't really known for it's ability to maintain heritage sights. It saddens me. I would love to see something like this restored. It's a good way to bring in revenue and build interest.
@8BALT Ontario is no worse than any other province or state. its just the way things are today. My condo stands on ther site of the old Pallisades amus. park in NJ (the one they wrote the song about). well, today the only reminder is a chinsy looking plaque at the front of the building.
@starzine They did the same damned things to Roseland Amusement park:( My mother used to go to Crystal Beach all the time when she was a teenager, it makes me sick how nothing is preserved in this country. Profit, & greed trumps all other concerns sadly enough.
Asbsolutely awful! So much fun and tradition for so many people throughout thier life and spred over a hundred years time. Is nothing sacred? I could never live there. My family still owns a cottage there on Oakwood. The People and the Town/Beach are awsome, but "The Park"... No more ecoing laughter, screams, the roller coasters or the sound of the train... Jobs? Lame project!
Seems a shame to see progress. Sometimes the past should be perserved. Last time i was there they had closed it. The buildings were still in place. Our family did a walk through for the last time. Such great and sad memorys. Last Chance Fire Works. Vince Mancini passed away we discovered that day as well. I wont ever go back there again., Whats the point.
Interesting to see Crystal Beach as it is today after all those years of fun so gone -for good !! Nice pictures, nice place, but where's the joy ? I wouidn't go within a million miles of the place ! - George (Wnoronz)
Simply disgusting.

Money truly IS the root of all that is evil. This proves that nothing is sacred when money takes over.
