  • These are two animals playing. The lighter 'wolf' in the forefront in the younger animal. The darker wolf could be the dam. She is older and not wanting to engage in play.

  • Maned Wolf 1: Ok! I'm gonna go for it! *walks towards other maned wolf* Maned Wolf 2: *Growls Maned Wolf 1: Oh shit! *Scampers away and then goes back* Maned Wolf 2: *Growls* Maned Wolf 1: Don't you growl at me! *Rears and claws wolf* maned Wolf 2: *Growls and fights back* Maned Wolf 1: SHIT! *Goes away but then comes back* Maned wolf 2: GET THE FUCK OFF MY LAWN! *Growls and attacks again.* Maned Wolf 1: HOLLY FUCK!!! *Fights back but then scampers away.* LOL maned wolf 1 don't have enoughguts

  • @CherokeeWolf4HIM I'm sure they do, but they need to understand territory. They allow this kind of fighting, but if it get's too serious, then they break it up. They don't want one of them getting seriously injured or worse, killed.

  • They need the Dog Whisperer!

  • Nice video. It's true that animals are "imported" to Zoos.

I've seen "Kalaks" here in Sweden.

  • what long legs!

  • Hey, can you make a vid of a maned wolf barking or howling?

It would be interesting to hear one actually bark or howl after hearing its unique growl of course

  • oh man...that wolf is one bad motha...SHUT YO MOUTH!!!!

  • Jajajaja El ruido que hace. Pobrecito este bicho, me hace acordar a lo que baso con el lobo marsupial. Ahora por suerte se estan haciendo cosas para protegerlos.

  • They have a really strong smell.

Are they from S.America? I seriously thought they lived in Africa.

  • Intrestingly I did not ever felt there smell, even that I was approx 5-20m far from them.

They natively live in S. America, but Im sore they were "imported" from EU, maybe from Italy.

  • What are you talking about? Those creaters are from South America. They were never "imported" nowhere.

  • They were brought from Italy. Zoos buy and sells animals like goods (what I hate). A Kalak would be _very_ expensive and not likely survive a 8-18hour aerial flight to my country.

  • No, they were not. They are south american native animals. They were an item in the Toba's mythology way before spanish came.

  • Oh, u mean on your zoo. Sorry xD

  • @Woofer86

This is completely untrue. I encourage you to look up the maned wolf on Wikipedia or BBC Nature for more information on this interesting South American canid. They are indigenous to South America, most especially to the grasslands of Brazil. They weren't imported from Italy. In fact, the only canid in Italy (that I could find through minimal research on the internet) is the gray wolf, and they are not even in the same genus as the maned wolf, which has no non-extinct near relative.

  • @ListentoCBR What they were saying is that they may have been imported elsewhere. "They natively live in S. America"

  • @CanadiaNecro1 I think u were thinking of the wild dog in africa

  • @5Bijou5 I've since been to our zoo and they said, regarding the maned wolves, that these animals have musk glands similar to what foxes have and that's why they stink sometimes. They're pretty cool and unusial animals, I like them!

I don't know about wild dogs though, our zoo does not have those. Wild dogs are really interesting animals too.

  • @CanadiaNecro1

    me to! lol

  • @CanadiaNecro1

Definitely not from Africa OR Italy. The maned wolf (chrysocyon brachyurus) is the largest canid indigenous to South America. In fact, South America is full of fascinating and unique animals that span from tiny insects to larger predators like the maned wolf, the jaguar, or the giant anteater, all of which have their native habitats (as in, the only places they can be found in the wild) in South America.

  • So beautiful. I love how they smack each other, but never play bite like timber wolves do. XP

  • Oh how cute! I am going to Bolivia next year and I really want to see one...but I suppose it´s not that easy to spot them?

  • They're such gorgeous animals!

  • I'm not surprised its endangered- I've heard they're rare- but shouldn't more attention be called to this? Before I saw this video, I'd never even seen what a maned wolf looked like.

P.S.: Why the hell was gx5ar's comment marked as spam?!?

  • On the PBS website you can find a video about the National Zoo that has a segment about the maned wolf, it was very cool.

  • Oh cool, I'll check that out. Thanks.

  • Whoah, what the hell? What a strange yet awesome animal... I'd heard of a maned wolf before, but I always assumed it to be just a variety of wolf... but those are definately not wolves...

Having said that, great job capturing the moment there.

  • somebody woke up on the wrong side of the den O_o

    they're such gorgeous animals :D

  • This is animal is not closely related to any other canids, except there is some relationship between it and the Bush or Vinegar dog, which looks absolutely nothing like it. Bush dogs have big heads and short legs. The maned wolf eats lots of fruit. There's one plant in Brazil that is called a wolf fruit, because the wolves love to eat it. It's not a wolf. It's not fox. It's not a South American fox either. It's a one of a kind.

  • oh i was wondering how they sounded, sence I got premisson to pick up this prodject. is there a way to snag audio somehow from the videos?

  • ZOMG it's Meander.

  • This video is awesome. I love it!
