Possible explanations for this scene's deletion: Didn't want to encourage kids to play with fire or mimic the bucket prank, may have been deemed too violent for its audience, and/or it originally aired so close to the Sept 11th attacks that a room engulfed in flames like that would have been too inappropriate for airing.

Ok this is the reason it was taken out at the time,

Since it aired pretty much a month after 9/11 they didn't want anything about attacks and whatnot. the second reason is because of the younger audiences might catch on to the gasoline thing and an accident could happen. so nickelodeon didn't want any of that.

Technically, the event which we know of as "fire" CAN exist underwater, but it isn't very common here on Earth.

It goes like this:

When something that is unstable (whether it requires heat or not to BE unstable isn't the point, by the way) touches something that will chemically bind to it (USUALLY air), it burns, and the created smoke is the two things combined. That being said, *some* things bind to water.
