  • the boys must look back and regret this big time. what a fucking joke

  • Comment removed

  • This is what happens when you get your dealers to play in your band.

  • @chairmanmeow1973

Oh I see... because they're black, they're "dealers". Ian Brown would think you're a cunt, he despises racism. Actually, so do I.

  • "It's going to be brilliant, I'm sure of it!"

9 words that cursed their set!

  • Sun glasses indoors?!

  • ian does not say a lot...

  • what the fucks vladimir klitshcho doing there?

  • ian sounds identical to liam gallagher..i know he is from mancherster but they are almost identical in sound when they talk. However, liam can at least sing live...ian is a great studio singer.

  • these aren't the roses! Who are all the black guys?

  • i met aziz and mani recently on separate occasions and mani was the nicest guy you could meet ,salt of the earth and funny too but aziz wot a brain dead turd he was totally fucking brain dead and he really thought he could replace squire sorry mate but you could nt even restring his guitar never mind play HIS songs

  • aziz is a great musician but never should of joined the roses... he done great on ian browns solo albums... how can ya join the roses with that fucking haircut???

  • Mani: 'How would you feel just before playing to 60 to 80,000 people for an hour and a half?' With the 'talent' that's stood beside you mate, I would have been shitting bricks personally.

  • mani looks cool as fuck

  • haha manis so short

  • The Roses were over the day that Reni left, and this was just Ian Brown hammering the final nail into the band's coffin.

  • Brown, Squire, Mounfield, Wren... Forever in our hearts.

  • get back in yer fucking shop

  • I've always thought that Ian brown deliberately killed the legend of the roses that

    Day.

  • Aziz Ibrahim has been an awesome collaborator with Ian Brown in his own right.

  • how to kill a dream

  • I've always thought that the roses never wanted to be famous, like, theyve never rocked at a festival on a glorious sunny day, they released those horrid soft rock crap tunes on second coming, they didnt tour america or anywhere else with any interest. But then I see them milking it in '96 and I just dont understand. Theyve always been an enigma. I think 200 years from now they will have the same status as Keats and Shelley and those lot. Same for Mr. Ryder.

  • This is shit.....the best stone roses was the original.

  • ian brown's on the munch

  • That Ian Brown,probably a nice guy,but comes across as a bit of a lune(mad eyes!)

  • those new guys knda come off as amateurs.. haha and why are they answering all the questions ? i thnk ians jsut laughing at some of the thngs theyr sayn

  • az is an amazing guitarist but tbh the stone roses were always about white boys

  • Disaster.

  • wow Simon Phoenix and Terminator came back to the future well the past to destroy the rest of the band

  • "best opportunity creatively?" followed by awkwards silence from 2.46-2.48 is ironic. Er, possibly the best creative time was the FIVE YEARS in the studio when they did fuck all.

This is painful. Two legends surrounded by pigmies.

  • This multi-coloured nonsense was an insult to The Stone Roses, and their fans. No disrespect to Aziz, he's a pretty good guitarist, but The Roses needed John Squire. This is like a bad Heavy Metal act, continually swapping musicians and pretending to be the same band.

  • they dont look like a band anymore. their key players have all abandoned ship

  • I love these guys and it was a shame to see it fall apart. This interview makes it even worse knowing the gig from hell that happened after it. long live the Roses!

  • the guy in the black jacket thinks hes fonzie!

  • saw it it was horrible

  • The performance was as bad as the female interviewer.

  • The Stone Roses were Ian&John&Mani&Reni. No disrespect to the other musicians here on this vid.

  • what the hell is terminator doin' here?

  • mani! i expected better from you!

  • Aziz- " most guitarists end up sat in their bedrooms playing"

    Too true!

  • wat is the point on puttin it every single ian brown vid on here u jst sad m8

  • Sadly Sanguru100 you have brought up in a culture where its not the records you produce but the fake stage persona that make the music media love you or not and youve been sucka'd in nevermind with a higher IQ or different sexuality you might not have been so upset that king monkey didnt shake his ass for u keep jerking off to MTV at your favourite dancer forget about the music eh?

  • @Sanguru100

i bet you have never in your life seen him live in concert, poor poor stone roses?

    what are you smoking mate?

    mediocre singer? poor dancer?

    theres something wrong with you,

he loves music and he shows with his performance, people think of him as a god, ecespcially here in manchester,

    hes a legend.

  • @georgelikespie most likely coz ian and mani are not racist, UNLIKE SOME!

  • Biggest mistake in rock history.

When Reni left it was bad enough, but when John left too, Ian and Mani should have called it a day. It was never gonna work. It was never going to be the Roses again. There are bands there are simply too great to be messed with. Can you imagine the Beatles replacing John or Paul or George or Ringo?!

It was the same with the Roses and this should never have happened!

It was Ian Brown trying to score points over Squire, to show John he could do it without him.

  • @blurry67 Yeah, but it's called DRUGS

  • @blurry67 You forget 1 important thing: the money they got for this gig. At this point, the band was fcked by their manager and this was an opportunity to get a good amount of cash by playing at Reading. Most musicians would have done it.

  • @blurry67 honestly mate I dont think its a great stretch for my imagination to imagine the Beatles without Ringo! lol

But agree whole heartedly they should never have went on without Reni and John.

Glad they are all back together.

    Simply the greatest band ever!

  • @DelBluenose80 I've got my tickets and I'm going to be there when ADORED starts playing at Heaton Park next June and I'll be fucking crying! :')

  • I like to think of this interview is akin to an interview with General Custard the day before little big horn. It breaks my heart.

  • @Dbusdriver71 general custard haha

  • Looks Ian had a bit of the munchies...

  • most likely on cannabis.

    still love him though,

  • thats not alan wren in the black lether jacket is it?? :S

  • no he had left

  • I mind reading the melody maker and nme after that gig... They f***ing raped them.

  • ''Mongolian sheep herders music'' lol Mani's the funniset guy ever.

  • Comment removed

  • this isnt the stone roses. it wasnt since reni left.

    stupid wannabe session guys

  • aziz isn't a no-mark you pillock.

  • Right you are - session guys with no sense of style!

  • Where as I have no hate towards the replacements, it wasn't the Stone Roses. And your right, it wasn't since Reni left the band. If you ask me, his drums were the key to the band. Even more so than Squire's magnificant guitar work....

  • @Mozzer232

u couldn't remove any of them.

mani included, his baselines made the songs for me

  • brown is unusually quiet

  • who the hell are these nomarks,

    best they split, looks horrible

  • one of them was a session musician from the last years of omd in the 90s- says it all really

  • This is why Squire left. He came back after a shoulder injury, to this lot.

Ian Brown is out of his head there! lol

  • is it pronounced reading or redding

  • redding

  • Pron. Redding

  • if this is the stone roses ,,then can I be Reni????

  • this depresses me.. it annoys me in a way that this is on here under 'stone roses interview' because to all roses fans at the time this was ian, mani, and 3 session musicians.. standing there in their shades trying to look cool (i'll forgive mani)... that aziz wound me up when they were on radio 1 around this time ,and he said he 'felt like he was always meant for this band' and 'some joker got there before me' (ie john)!! can you believe that ?

  • dunno who this lot are but they ain't the roses lol

  • they used to be the stone roses.

  • ......and then it went spectacularly tits up!! From one of the best English bands ever, to a bloody laughing stock!! There is no Stone Roses without John and Reni, could you imagine Led Zeppelin without Page and Bonham? Bands that are this good that have personel changes struggle afterwards. Its ok for shit bands like Oasis to change drummers, bassists etc because they are just average bands!!

  • it's fitting they give this shite interview before givin the absolute worse performance ever. the roses wasn't about ian and john it was all of them, aziz standing in for john was bad enough, but wilber- sorry 'robbie' maddox for the greatest drummer of his generation??? and ian's vocals ossibly the worst i've ever heard, felt like cryin after this gig

  • reni IS the roses

  • seems like in one of the books or an interview - the rest of the band thought they would let John have his blues album and things would go on and maybe be more teamwork in the future. Squire said he was using coke as a tool. I can see how it would lead to 7 minute solos.

  • Would it be the Smiths without Marr? The Bunnymen without Sargeant? The Chameleons without Smithies? Squire was their sound. Without him Brown was...well...less than great.

  • this is not the stone roses...this is Ian's ego.

  • This Interviewer is shite.

  • WTF is this line up. That's not the Stone Roses.

  • its such a shame, god knows what really went wrong around the time that the band started falling out. second coming was actually an pretty good album, just not for the stone roses as it was too much of a different, led zep inspired, all john squire show. a real contrast from their fisrt album and singles with the trademark guitar effect and distinctive melodies, i think if they had continued to release material like that with squire AND brown writing the songs, they may have not split.

  • What went wrong was Silvertone and their manager Gareth Evans. The three year court case, removing their ability to record at their peak, is something no other band has had to go through. All thanks go to Evans and Silvertone. Cunts.

  • They are all coked out their nuts.

  • aint the same with out johnny

  • this isn't the stone roses :(

  • yes it is you nob

  • who are those black guys? o_o

  • ye i wish the roses would reunite, the smiths also!

  • This is actually really scarey and quite sad. They're all into it, and pretending that they're mega, givin' it the big "I AM", pretending that they're gonna be great and keep goin', blah, blah, blah. Heart breaking, actually.

  • ummm, where are the roses?

  • the bloke on the far right looks like the evil man from Spiderman and The Da Vinci Code.

this gig was far more disastrous than the Titanic.

  • This is just Ian, Mani and a bunch of mediocre, talentless wasters. This IS NOT the 'Roses! These other musicians look so out of their depth when stood next to Ian and Mani.

  • "Talentless wasters"? yeh right. Aziz Ibraham has played on most of Ian Brown's solo albums and is a top session guitarist to boot.

  • He's average at best. Also, I wish that Ian would stop poncing about with his fuckin' solo stuff and reunite the Roses - it's the twentieth anniversary of their debut album this year!

  • i wish people would stop longing for whats gone and get with the times. even if the roses did re-unite, do you think we could ever back to those old days? you should concentrate on your own generation, even if about 75 per cent of pop music is shite at the moment

  • I think the future of the roses is pretty clear, judging from Squires latest artwork... "I have no desire to desecrate the grave of seminal manchester pop group the stone roses" . good day.

  • @LennonMorrissey i get what you mean because their along side ian and mani, but aziz and robbie are far from talentless wasters.

  • @LennonMorrissey That was exactly what I thought. These aren't the Roses....

  • mani is a trouper like. hes one of the boys.

  • ian and mani love those nuts or whatever they're munchin

  • monkey nuts obviously

  • hahahha

  • Mani's been in Primal Scream for years now, not with King Monkey anymore. Browns solo albums have all been great to me anyway!

  • Mongolian Sheep hearders music..LMAO

    Mani is funny as fuck!!

  • Ian and Mani in a Reggae band!!!! lol! Glad they decided to rename to just Ian Brown! this aint the Roses!!!

  • No Verve 20 has a point & a brain for litsening to a band as good /The Verve/ What ruined The Stone Roses now if uve read the books or Browns intewveiws its all J Squire's fault, but Reni left first & Squire kept saying its not the same /I can understand that/ & willie is a wanker AZIZ is A Great player, his work for Ian speakes for itself, ps I've told Ian about my feeling on blaming Squire stuff! the answer was It could hav got better & cud hav got Reni bk if Squire did't sulk & gt coked up!!

  • so sad to see brown and mani end up like this

  • Best band ever invented. Would have been the biggest!! bloomin shame on them. Lav them. Anyone who don't like them, go back and listen to some puddle of mudd or slipknot

  • I imagine everyone of them should be embarrassed by this performance. And if not, they should be.

  • That's Mani, Ian Brown and a bunch of fucking wankers. Not the Stone Roses.

  • i 2nd that

  • Aziz what a wanker.

  • Aziz is a fantastic musician. It was just too much to live up to.

  • Yeh it was a lot to live up for any player. Even if Noel Gallagher played he would have been called a wanker and told to go back and snort more coke

  • bollocks

  • Aziz ruined this band. He's a wanker.

  • the dancin girls on stage totally wrecked the roses myth n self beliefs, they need to re-form coz they got so much unfinished business,c`mon browny n mani round the troops up coz british music needs you.....

  • I disagree, as fantastic and iconic as their first album was, the stone roses are history. Mani is now part of a much better band in primal scream.

  • what was it that made the performance so bad?

  • confident?!..they look really nervous, like they knew what was coming, stone roses rip..

  • i found watching this interview quite hard, they really did fall from the top

  • that's not the stone roses... bollocks

  • Fucks this? Fuck are they? WTF..no one told me about this!...Fucking disgrace!

  • Sorry Mate. I was going to say something to you but I forgot

  • u got to hand it to mani,he really was tryin to hold it together,it must ov been a shit time for ian and mani,ah well mani now in primal and ian doin fantstic songs, they were both the coolest members of the roses, imo

  • brown didnt look happy looking at him he new the roses waz finished.

  • that was one fucked up line up, i remember that, it was just wrong

  • love the roses.mani and brown should not be standin next to them people.shittest musicians on earth.hav u heard maddix at the start of love spreads?i thought he had dropped his sticks, turns out he meant it.and that daft cunt with his flashing guitar?fuckin disgrace.seen them at a festival and there was an ugly lesbian dancing round like a spastik clown.i could fuckin cry.roses where the best band ever.supose i should get over it...

  • yeah could put it down to mani and ians mistake.first of all im wondering who the fuck they r man....whos the black people? this is a bit odd..

  • The guy in the white shirt is Robbie Maddox the drummer. Guy in the coloured shirt is Nigel Ippinson - Keyboards

  • cheers...what r they doin with the stone roses?lol

  • Robbie was brought in to replace Reni. Nigel was brought in to play keyboards and backing vocals

  • you sad fucking retard.

  • who r the black people?

  • i cant beleive i wasted my time lookin for this video to see your comment. that had to be the worst attempt in the world to try and be funny. id feel sorry for u if u didnt like the verve...just try a bit harder next time man

  • very very sad it came to this!

  • Like the comment brown made at 2:27 when asked what happens know with aziz in the band... brown says 'were gonna grow and bloom like a rose' interesting to think what changed all there minds into splitting up soon after this.and what the third roses album would have been like as this line up.

  • I know alot about robbie and aziz but dont know that much about nigel... other than he wrote the song 'nah nah' on unfinished monkey business. whats he doing now anyone?

  • "anurra" = another . hahahah

  • Aziz Is mint squire left the band. hahaha the guy commenting on the idiot who cant spell.lol

  • I would have hated having those three other guys in the band. They just dont add a good image to the band.

  • I too was at Reading and 3 off the front.

One young guys t-shirt summed up the day. It read "F**k Aziz bring back Squire".

You lose the 2 virtuoso players out of the band and replace them with journeymen.

    A very sad end.

  • "we're going to bloom like a rose", nope...you're going to sink like a stone. very very sad

  • Ian forgot his sunglasses.

  • I was unfortunate enuff to be at reading in 96 and witnessed this pathetic performance. They were out of tune. They (specifically stinky Brown) were rude to the audience and their fans!

They thought they could tell the crowd what to do.

Brown tried to tell a guy to stop waving his union jack flag, like he had some authority to do so!

Nothing but over hyped up northern monkeys, who had a hit record years before!

  • john squire pisses all over iziz

stone roses best band ever with oasis, paul weller as well

    long live rock n roll

    bring back the roses

  • Robbie Maddox's sister put my dreads in...top girl.

  • They really thought they could just carry on as if nothing had happened after losing Squire and Reni.

  • Aziz Ibrahim is still very talented and important to Ian in his solo career.

  • Oh dear.

The longest suicide note in history?

Heartbreaking to see a once truly great band reduced to this - standing around looking like The Farm with sunglasses and fake posturing...

Brown and Mani still have something but who are the others?!

  • wid huv been better if they'd made that 1 recurd then faded intae obscurity instead av makin 2 coming - they could nevir make anurra as good as the first wan, the stars were right ur sumfin when they made the first record.

The greatest record in pop music history.

  • Can someone please translate the above post into English? Surely has to be the most appalling attempt at writing in the English language I have ever seen.

    "wid huv" = would have

"recurd" = why not spell it "record" like you did later?

    "anurra" = ??

This has to be a wind-up. Please.

  • hahaha. i'm struggling too! i think he's scottish..... say no more.

  • Translation: Would have been better if they had made the first stone roses album and then quietly disappeared then to have made the second coming album, as the first album could not have been bettered, the portents must have been good or something when the first album was made. (incidentally i do not agree with this statement, just translating for you, lol)

  • This interview makes me laugh

  • heart breaking.

  • what a shame they didnt know what was coming.

  • Ian...dont eat with yer mouth full now

  • and no ones talking about how this band turned into spinal tab, why!??? (Squire all the way)

  • Sorry guys. Doesnt he look like the old drummer though?

  • of course he doesn't!

    hilarious thread.

  • Mate honestly he looks absolutley nothing like him

  • I mean the fella to the right, wearing the sun glasses. I thought that was the drummer?

  • Reni the drummer is blaggin that hes a guitarist. At 3:03 he says "guitar's all i do, i play guitar" and you can see ian laughing!

  • peverell1 WTF are you talking about? Reni wasn't even in the clip, he left the band in 2005.

  • u mean 1995

  • erm, i hope adwilson404 means 1995

because otherwise it would mean reni stayed in the band for 9 years after it broke up

    hes right

    it aint reni saying that

    its john squires replacement

    Aziz Ibrahim

who has done a lot with ian on his solo stuff

also seen are drummer robbie maddix

    and keyboardist nigel ippinson
