You could try Dead Can Dance and Lisa Gerrard's "The Mirror Pool" album. I think that's what you're after, as a style. Nonetheless, Lisa Gerrard's album is a truly unique experience, in my opinion. Also, it reminds me a bit of Mari Boine Persen's stuff, even though that's a bit more ethnic.

amazing..i think they work wel together to be honest. yeah its different..joran is more ambient and McFerrin is more out there..but you can tell there both feeling the music..and there both playing off the emotions the other is throwing out there..and thats what real musicianship is about. just to add to my first comment, I think McFerrin is very talented, I just did not like what he did in this song with Jorane. His intonation is really good and he definitely is very skilled. I think it was very rude that he didn't even know her name since he's performing with her. I watched that entire DVD and I have to say there were a few times where McFerrin seemed a little rude to people especially the crowd when they would cheer he would hold his hand up to make them be quiet.
I'm sure that every musician doesn't know the names of every artist they are going to perform with. Too, it is customary for the audience to wait until the end of a piece before they applaud. Bobby just take what he does seriously, and the audience needs to give him respect.
The reason McFerrin has to quiet the audiance is that at times the dynamics of the human voice can be very low, so in order to hear whats going on, the audiance must be silent and pay attention.

Check out Bobby at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York. I learned with him a few summers back at the Institute. He teaches vocal improvisation in a 5-day masterclass workshop. It's awesome training. I highly recommend it.
