One thing you gotta hand to the serials, especially Columbia's, is their soundtrack. Listening to the volume as it poured out of the theater speakers, it's a wonder all of us Front Row Kids weren't tone deaf walking out of the theater. Columbia did not take their serials seriously while Republic did. That is why the stunt and fight scenes look so hokey to modern audiences.
I think if they copied more of the costume idea for Batman too for the 1960's that would have worked better. I like the "bat-ears" more on this one then the 1960's one.
I think the 1960s series might have worked even better if they had copied some of these cliffhangers, instead of the crazy ones they used, especially in the second season.
Seeing the Batman serials of the 1940s, it is plain to see where the 60's show got its inspiration from. At first, I thought I was actually watching the 60's show but in black and white, espeically the 1943 serial, but after awhile I noticed something is different.
Anyway, thanks... I'd like to see the 1943 original posted... the DVD is a LUXURY... you can't find it ANYWHERE... believe me, I've tried
