It was a parking lot. That was honestly the best we could do to have it near where its nest came from and away from cars and doors and out of the sun. somewhere safer would have been ideal, I am happy I don't come across that often. Once I saved a bird from being put down in a vet clinic, a red winged black bird. I took it to a rehab/sanctuary place. like a 2 hour drive! If I had not been at work, I would have taken it there

heheh, I don't even come close to an amateur ornithologist's level! nah, I just happen to see these little birds around my area all the time, and yes, also at the parking lot at the mall, so I'm convinced that they're most likely the same kind of bird. actually, if you see a bird of similar size and beak, but with a red/orange head and light-brown feathers (the male), hanging around those kinds of birds, then it's almost certain to be a house finch! :D

hmm... hope not! I worked in an exotic animal clinic for a while, it was almost ready to fly. at that weight the mom will keep helping it eat at ground level and it should fly in not so long. I love birds. I would feel horrible if it did die. At least we got it out of between shopping center doors. it would surely have died there

My mom used to have to go out with a shovel and clean up before we were allowed in the backyard to play. We put a bell on his collar but he just developed a way of running that would not make them ring. SMART cat!

well, he was not alone. There was a bird nest right up next to where we left him and the bird sounds at the end of the video are from his 'parents' that were watching us the whole time. We did our best and left him in the shade. Being a certified animal health technician I also knew he was not dehydrated and had no injuries. Don't worry too too much =) I really think he was ok =) promise!
