They don't make novelty records like this anymore. Whatever became of The Royal Guardsmen after "Snoopy's Christmas" came out? I wasn't even a year old when this song came out.
i first herd this song wene i was 4 years old,my mom bought it for me and i spent hours listening to it in my sisters room and from that moment i knew that music was in my blood and from that went on to have a very sucsessfull life in music...it was all the fault of this song....thanks mom....(now you understand)....lol
My late father Gene Schwartz was the producer of all the Snoopy songs and owner of Laurie Records. This was the biggest hit of all the records he produced. It flew off the shelves. The factory couldn't keep up. It was my father's idea to do a record about Snoopy. He was a big fan. It was the #2 record that year on BB.
I first heard this song in grade school music class. Every Friday our teacher would play 1 rock and roll 45 and hand out lyric sheets so we could sing along. He played some good stuff like, Mellow Yellow by Donovan, Fox On The Run by Sweet, and then one day he came up with this little gem. All the kids I grew up with loved Peanuts, and everyone's favorite was Snoopy. When the teacher dropped the needle on this one, we all lost our minds. Every week after that we'd ask him to play this song.
I always liked how the band swung into "Hang On Sloopy" in the middle. Someone gave me a copy of the album this came from when I was a kid. Except for this song, it was 100% cover tunes. The weirdest one was their version of The Kingsmen's "Jolly Green Giant", which opened with someone saying "Hey Jolly Green Giant! What's new besides Ho Ho Ho?" and someone doing a Don Adams impression going "Would you believe a rowboat with 3 leaky worms?"
@elc1960 The voice was Charles Fuller Hunt, who appeared in the radio and on television as Charles Fuller. Chuck leveraged his Thousand Voices by building his own recording and Film studio in Tampa Florida.
@Frizzied THANKS. On the technical side, i was a Noise Nazi, and still will complain if the sound in a venue sucks. I spent hours fighting Hum and Hiss, for example replacing carbon resistors in tube biasing circuits with deposited metal. The overdubbing is 8 layers deep on two 2-track machines @ 15ips.
The Royal Guardsmen are set to release their first ever LIVE CD in December, "Beaglemania!" There's a sneak peek of "Biplane Evermore," one of the songs they recorded on their website. Check it out! This is the first recording in 45 years, they are back together and getting ready to tour again.
I was young, this record (mikro singl) was gift in music magazine nemed Džuboks (Jukebox). Rare, this was flexy, foldable and quality is pore. This is excelent. Thank to the heaven to "VinylNostalgia" for posting, and DiscoLegendZeke for memoris and comments.
*sigh* Back in the good days where it only took a record 3 weeks to get to to the top of the charts...now these days it takes a song darn-near three months to do so (I wonder why...)
Endlich !
You must of had a great time as a producer of garage bands during that era. It sounds like a dream job to me. Who are some of the bands you produced, anybody we might remember?
The only names sticking in my mind are The Rovin' Flames and Noah's Ark.
A co-worker was Douglas Crutchfield, the greatest guitar player from the big band days. The core thrill of the job was dancing two nights a week, which i still do here in vegas.
Be on the lookout for a Charles Fuller Productions promotional 7-inch. It has the original version of SVTRB which includes the 4 part harmony lyrics during the "Hang on Snoopy" break. Only 100 were pressed, and sent to advertising agencies.
@ texs2007 & Todjen & everyone, especially vinyl. As I begin my 69th birthday, recall the epochs of my visit to earth. After my gig playing "Private ****up" in the Marine Corps years, came the Record Making Time.
Searching disco legend zeke here will point to videos from the "Farmer" Decade and a few from present day.
This was my very first 45. I was 3yrs old. Still a great little tune!! My second 45 was SUGAR, Honey, Honey!! -3

I was on staff at Charles Fuller Productions, and produced many garage band records in the late 60's.
I basically worked for peanuts in return for use of studio for my own projects.
