What's really neat is that linux allows you to take an old computer (say...500mhz...256ram...) and give it a modern, up to date operating system that uses a modern browser.
So far I'm impressed with Ubuntu. Not a heavy gamer, don't need itunes cause copy my VAST music collection in2 a mp3 player. My car stereo has a USB port I can plug either my mp3 player into or a thumbdrive & it will locate & play any music on it. Why would I use an ipod? It will cost me more money than it's worth. My nephew has an iphone & 2 be able to play his music on it he bought a bluetooth transmitter. I don't get it, why pay all that money? XP crashed & no restore disc=no support from MS

Believe it or not, Microsoft will not have the ability to drive the prices like this forever. I had set Arch up, Ubuntu and Fedora all had problems with something as simple as sound quality, compatibility of programs, WiFi dropping connection randomly, stupid Graphics driver wouldn't work, Arch had the same problems.

you need to download the propietory drivers for your wireless if you connect it via ethernet/directly and go to hardware drivers you will see what wireless drivers you need and just download them. kinda like downloading drigers on windows without the CD.

Fact is, Linux has more powerful software FREE. For example windows can't format SD HC cards to it's full 8 Gb but Linux can. There are so many file conversion tools that are not free in windows. Things you get charged try to do in windows are already old in LINUX. The only thing windows does that Linux can't do well is CHARGE it's users for every copy they sell. Also guys who activate too often their key have to crack or buy another copy. Basically Linux does 3D desktop! What more can say!Flip!
Sorry, but I have to disagree, WINDOWS is better. I have XP and I tried Ubuntu (one of the many linux's out there) and I found XP to be much better. Windows XP is more stable (yes it really is), it's more user friendly, you can install things without having to use that stupid shitty terminal, and oh yeah, windows has better programs and games. I tried Kubuntu, which is supposed to be easy to use, and when I tried installing Linux drivers for my video card I was greeted with a terminal. Apparently all installations are command line -.-
Also, it ran slow, although I chose the install within windows option. Windows XP on the other hand only takes a split second for me to open my computer, or the list of programs (at least on a semi fresh install).
Linux is good if you know how to work with it, but still not too user friendly.

Wine does not run them faster. Only in very rare occasions. Now the blue screen of death is rare. But when it happens it saves your pc from data corruption. Last time linux crashed on me it used 3 gigs of swap and both gigs of my ram. Then it froze and deleted shit out of /home/jamesmanes.

Real time scanner is not indexed scanner. Indexed works like OS X spotlight. It keeps an INDEX of the files in the PC, so if one is changed it scans it right then. I agree. Right now i am using Ubuntu Linux 9.10 and i love it. It is the best OS, in my oppinion. It is lighter, faster, moore beatiful......... IT ROCKS!

Fact is, Linux has more powerful software FREE. For example windows can't format SD HC cards to it's full 8 Gb but Linux can. There are so many file conversion tools that are not free in windows. Things you get charged try to do in windows are already old in LINUX. The only thing windows does that Linux can't do well is CHARGE it's users for every copy they sell. Also guys who activate too often their key have to crack or buy another copy. Basically Linux does 3D desktop! What more can say!Flip!

Sorry, but I have to disagree, WINDOWS is better. I have XP and I tried Ubuntu (one of the many linux's out there) and I found XP to be much better. Windows XP is more stable (yes it really is), it's more user friendly, you can install things without having to use that stupid shitty terminal, and oh yeah, windows has better programs and games. Now what's the betting people are going to give this comment a negative thumbs down just because they are an overprotective Linux fan.

I tried Kubuntu, which is supposed to be easy to use, and when I tried installing Linux drivers for my video card I was greeted with a terminal. Apparently all installations are command line -.-
Also, it ran slow, although I chose the install within windows option. Windows XP on the other hand only takes a split second for me to open my computer, or the list of programs (at least on a semi fresh install).
Linux is good if you know how to work with it, but still not too user friendly.

I think the one that has the blue screen of death all the time has more sloppy architecture. Also Wine runs windows programs faster then windows runs them. So your comparison is not a good one. Anything else?

Wine does not run them faster. Only in very rare occasions. Now the blue screen of death is rare. But when it happens it saves your pc from data corruption. Last time linux crashed on me it used 3 gigs of swap and both gigs of my ram. Then it froze and deleted shit out of /home/jamesmanes.

Wine sure does run them faster. winblows crashes all the time. It is because I use it hard and it can't handle it. Linux can. Also it is nothing wrong with my computer hardware. I have a10.64 ghz core 2 quad. Also Linux doesn't take to kindly to dumb asses who use it. Linux has never crashed on me. Windows has crashed countless times.

Wow. That is retarded. There are already real-time scanners for windows. They help ALOT but they will never be perfect. windows will never be as secure as Linux. Linux is open source which means things get fixed quickly. windows dances around problems as long as they can. The user has no control. It is illegal to edit windows your self. Real time scanner is not indexed scanner. Indexed works like OS X spotlight. It keeps an INDEX of the files in the PC, so if one is changed it scans it right then. So what if it is illegal to mess with the windows kernel. That is not a bad thing. No one to fuck it up. Oh and I do own windows, I run it in a virtual machine on my mac. I just don't use it. Very very seldom.

You cannot call that monopolized. A monopoly has 100% market share and no competitors.
Saying blue screen does not make windows look bad for you cite no source for the problem. All you do is repeat blue screen. Linux has buffer overflows, formatting string problems, input validation problems, integer overflows, and dangling pointer problems. Lots of security problems, just as windows.
Situation, You need to do your taxes, the bank only accepts Quickin for windows. What do you do.
