  • Hi pat34ful,

The Stimulator is one of those patterns which can be tyed in many sizes and colours, for example it will work when caddis, stonefly and hoppers are around.

    All the best Davie

  • what hook did you use to tie this fly with davie?

  • Hi xiaemperor,

I see that you are from the U.S and if you look up the Montana Fly Company you will see that they sell a Stimulator Hook it's No.7002 which is an Ideal hook for these flies..

    All the best Davie

  • @DavieMcPhail ....Yes Davie ...I bought my Stimulator Hooks through Amazon quite cheaply ....Montana Fly Co. sells through Amazon ..

Thanks Dave , fantastic flies & great vids...the only comment I have is that your voice is hard to hear in your/these videos..Nevertheless, your flies & videos are some of the best..Please keep up the good work !

  • Hi Davie,

Are you using white deer belly hair that is dyed red and olive?

Another great looking fly. Thanks for doing the videos.

  • Hi GreyBuzzer,

Yes it is deer belly dyed, I found it ideal for this pattern...

    All the best Davie

  • @GreyBuzzer ...Red & Olive Seals Fur mate !

  • what kind of dubbing is the one you use here? 2:47

    thank you in advance!

  • Hi NiNj4k0S,

The material I used was olive seals fur but a good synthetic fur will work just as well...

    All the best Davie

  • Hi shendadejemba,

    All the best Davie

  • A great variation of the old pattern! I love those legs and bought some after I watched your International Hopper video. There is one dealer in North America that sells them. Thanks for this pattern Davie, it will be in my fly box by spring. Should work here in Alberta as well I would think...

  • wut type of hook iz that you're tying on? I can never find that hook in stores.

  • Hi rosieposie1010,

I see that you are from the U.S and if you look up the Montana Fly Company you will see that they sell a Stimulator Hook it's No.7002.

  • hi dave have watched all your videos brilliant , i was wondering about the style of hook used on stimmulator patterns , i was fishing a small one last year on lough and mask and found the fish hard to hook up even though i got good pulls it was quite a small hook sise for the west of ireland brownies i was wondering could these flies be tied on long shank hooks for example or am i just looking for excuses for missing fish ;]] many thanks for posting the videos

  • Hi TheHellboy1234,

I'm glad that you liked the videos..

I tye lots of Stimulators patterns on basic hooks, the one I use most is the

Kamazan B175 from size 8 to 14s but also tying them on other styles like long shanked hooks would be good as well..

    All the best Davie

  • now, do you buy the phesent hair like that or do you have to do it your self?? i just started a few weeks ago and im still looking for some nice materials to tie with!! thx for the video!

  • Hi evanferguson8,

I'm glad you liked the videos...

You can buy the Pheasant Tail fibres already tyed but most times you may have to tye your own and it's much cheaper to do this too...

    All the best Davie

  • Really stupid question, but are you literally just knotting 2 -3 Pheasant Tail fibers together? are you applying any glue to the "joint" or anything special?

  • Hi shakeyfly,

Yes just simply tye the pheasant tail fibres together, and no they don't need any glue just give it a go...

    All the best Davie

  • i love the this pattern with the legs. i took this to maine for a guided trip and the guide was laughing at me and the first place we went to he said put that freaky creature in the water. so i did and i landed a 25 inch landlock salmon the first cast. i also went on to catch a 16 inch brookie with the same fly. at the end of the day i had to retire it because it was so beat up from catching so many fish.

  • Hi sasquatch446,

It sounds like you had a great time and thankyou for letting me know...

    All the best Davie

  • What a beauty!! With all that hackle I'll bet that fly floats like a cork!

    Thank you for posting Davy!

Always looking forward to your next fly.

  • a real class fly again davie, thats a definate for my fly box, keep them coming pal, good luck, davy.

  • Another great looking fly, which doesn't look too difficult to tie, will have to give that one a go.

Why aren't you fishing? too busy tying flies I guess!

  • Hi Davie

Great looking fly. I will have to give those legs ago. I have seen you use them more then once. And they seem to speed up the tying time and make it alot easier to ty.

  • Those stimulators are a great fly. This is you second video on how to ty them right? "You do a great good on your videos."

  • Thanks for the new video, another nice pattern for my box!
