@McHenryAnge Apparently you have never had to thin a garden. Thinning is worse than weeding in my eyes. Radishes and Carrots are among the worst to thin because the size of those seeds. Before you ridicule I think you need to consider how it could help honestly. Further this is not a requirement, she clearly stated it is a great winter project and something to do when not gardening. It just makes life easier and why not since it is something you do in January? Thank you GardenGirl.
You can also use cornstarch and water. Put them in the fridge to prevent sprouting. I've also gardened all my life and this makes gardening just a little bit easier. I love the idea!!
@MrPreachingthetruth It is not a problem of sowing, it is the issue of thinning being addressed. It is not more work, it is a great family project that is related to gardening and can be done when no other garden work can be done, you know like when the kids are out of school due to the holidays and it is too cold to play outside. :)
Very cool idea! This will make a perfect family project during the winter months preparing for the garden. Is flour the best thing to use or are there other organic materials that can make the "paste"?
I was looking for a way to do carrots so thanks for the info. I plant sixteen per square foot. I am going to plant three squares tomorrow. I am in sunny southern California so I should be able to plant now.
Awesome, awesome, awesome!! Thank you for posting this. People have shown how to make seed taps through photos, but sometimes video is best. I'm going to do this this weekend with some carrot seeds!
I like the interaction of Mom and daughter?... good presentation

This is great for those of use who want to make cheap seed bombs too. Make the strips, cut them into even squares and chuck em!

That's one of the funniest things I've seen. You can't get more anal retentive than that.

Instead of a flour/water mixture, one may substitute boogers if of adequate moisture.

This works for any kind of seed? The moisture won't cause the seeds to sprout?

Love this. I'm a big fan of broadcasting annual seeds, but this guarantees better spacing and germination success.

doesn't the moisture in the paste cause the seeds to sprout?
Plum369 11 months ago
@Plum369 Not as long as you dont make the paste too runny.
Make the paste thick enough so that it hardly runs when tipped upside down.
