I don't like this approach, because you'd essentially be trying to pidgeon-hole the customer out of doing something they'd naturally want to do. Any reasonable man is going to want to consult his spouse if she is not with him when making such a significant purchase that will effect his family's budget. To close that avenue by making it uncomfortable for him to do so, even if he -is- possibly just using it as a stall, just raises the pressure level imo. Not even mentioning the sexism aspect.
