i have watched every video i could find of you and im planning on ordering the flashcards soon! i have a 7.5 month old and just started signing with him a few days ago. i know this will sound eager, but how long should i expect it to take to see results? (he is pretty focused on learning how to stand up right now.) i am very patient and in no hurry id just like to have an idea so i can keep a realistic expectation! that will help me stick to it. any advice you have is greatly appreciated.
@Rahzi25 It depends on how consistent you are and also on the interest of your baby. My son signed really early (and walked early as well!) my daughter started at 9.5 months. The best thing to do is stick to a few signs at first and be consistent with them. Good luck!!
Precious! My 7mo nephew signs milk now too. First sign, I'm so proud! It's hard since his parents hardly sign with him, but I'm fortunate to be around him a lot. Now that he's signing, they'll catch on! Do you just teach them signs, or is your goal ASL fluency? I'm aiming for fluency, because, like you, I have many Deaf friends and I'm part of the Deaf community. When he's around native signers, he just stares at his own hands, as if he's asking himself, "How can I do that?" lol. He's so cute!
We been talking long time ago about my son wich is going to turn 3 in May but my problem is that he is not talking really good and his teacher is bleming that I teach him sign languaje when he was 11 months. But I love sign languaje and I don't agree with her. We are a bilingual family and my falt was been talking with him in inglish and spanich like-- Vamos to outside, or traeme tus shoes. Like a mix of both and the teacher tell me to stop that and start talking just one with him.
@jimbobgeorgejohn you are right, signing is not the cause of him not talking. People confuse speech with language. There has been a lot of studies done one signing and speech and there is no negative effect. Also, the American Association of Paediatricians came out with a formal stance that they support the use of signing with children. If you or the teacher is concerned I would maybe have him see a speech & language pathologist for assessment.
This is too cute!! After demonstrating 'milk' to my son (on & off) just before nursing him from since he was about 6 mths, my now one year old finally got the cause and effect of signing milk, and he now asks for milk every 5 minutes! LOL!!!!
@marcus3379 I'm not really sure, I think it depends on the child. Boys tend to pick up signing later than girls but in my son's case he signed earlier than my daughter so I really think it is based on the individual child.
this makes me happy to see, we are planning on signing at two months with our first Lo on the way, or we might just start siging form birth to make a habit out of it. Happy to see this.
so cute! he's gotten so big since your last video with him! He and Fireese have the same face structure. I think it's amazing to see similarities in siblings.
That is so good! I have a 6 month old. He is deaf in one ear and HH in the other. He hasn't gotten "milk" down yet. My two older children sign too (one is Autistic). I can't wait to see him do it, though! I love your videos. They show my inlaws that signing is so good and helpful to all children (they are against signing for EVERY child).
@FranceGamble I'm so glad that I'm able to help show people what babies are capable of doing and that signing is great for everyone! If you ever need 'ammo' for your in-laws send me an email, I have a list of research articles on the benefits of signing with children that you can read. I can email you the list if you like! Just message me through You Tube.
I am deaf and my neice is hearing shes 4 months old.. everyday I sign Milk to her. She looks at my hand when im doing it. she is very responsive but doing it once a day will that help???? Am I doing it wrong?
@ILUVASL08 Make sure when you sign 'milk' that you are also giving her milk so she can understand. I would also encourage her mother to do it also. I is important to be consistent when signing with babies. Try to make the sign every time you say the word.
What a smart baby! He is so responsive! I was impressed that he knew how to sign milk already and also how he said "yay" at the end in response to you saying it. What a cutie pie!
how did you teach him that, I have been trying to teach my son ausland since he was 4 months, we have been doing it around him since he was born he is 9 months now and not a single sign??
My daughter was 9.5 months when she started signing and boys tend to pick signing up a little later than girls. The important thing is to not give up. He may take a couple more months to sign, it can be discouraging but don't give up! It will be well worth it!
Unbelieveable!!! Ohh my gosh, I am just blown away at this!! I've been watching Fireese's videos for a long time and it's just remarkable what she's done!! Hartford is adorable!! I LOVE his giggle in the excitement at signing "milk". How does a parent begin learning so that they can teach our own children?
@scrumps101 thanks! He is pretty proud of himself :-)

@psedornna Thanks :-)
Don't worry, 6 months is young to sign. My daughter, Fireese was 9.5 months when she signed back and really started signing a lot by 11 months.
My son is also exclusively breast fed, I just use the regular sign for milk with him. Email me anytime with questions you have!
