  • SUre wish Joe would bring us some more of his great songs.

  • As I recall, this song was a hit on the Country music charts by Freddy Weller, who was earlier the bass player for Paul Revere and the Raiders.

  • Joe not only wrote some of the most heart felt songs but has a dynamite voice too!!

  • TOCS 268 - You got it right. I remember those naked nights when I did not know "my people." When you fall out of the cloud... it looks like the end, my friend.

  • "Naked in the worrld with no place to hide" These are my people...

  • lol

  • damn i love this song

  • what i love most about the song is that he says your god has died.. yeah my god has died too long ago...

  • this is joe south coolest song

  • yeah joe is pretty cool cant believe today they produce3 so much trash wich so much good music out there

  • I used to hear this song on KHJ AM radio when I was a kid. I remembered it,searched it, and found it here on youtube. I think the last time I heard this song was in 1969. What a gas, man.

  • This is one of my favorite Joe South songs, full of truths and honesty. He had to reach deep inside to come up with these wonderful lyrics.

  • joe south sure made an impact on the music of our times.

  • Just want to thank the pop/rock radio stations of Dayton and Cincinnati Ohio for putting Joe into sufficient rotation to cause him to be a positive and significant influence on my life.

  • This song inspired me to freedom from peer pressure many years ago. I was stoked to hear it again. Thanks

  • funny it reminds me more of da few beauty princess who get wasted for pigs.... damn i hate the song and love it its so sad so pretty women so wasted...but hey thats life... i would probably be the same damn i hate my life

  • i know the song starts about something else and i know women can be evil but that was not the point...

  • Actually, this song was recorded by Johnny Rivers.

  • That would be 'covered' by Johnny Rivers - Joe South wrote it - and is singing it in this clip...

  • thank you. Good to have OTHER educated idiots online...corrections are necessary from the older crowd every once in a while...thank you.

  • Today (February 28th) is Joe South's birthday! Leave Joe a note on joesouth(dot)com

  • Another great song by some guy that should be at the top of the heap . But for some reason we hardly ever hear of him . I guess he never kissed the right record companies' greedy asses . Joe I think you are incredibly talented .Thanks for the music you gave us to enjoy .

  • never was intereasted in computers before. but that has all changed music wise. ..Unbelivably what on theses things!!!!

  • Is there any possability to find the early 50/60s stuff bye Joe South?

  • Happy Joe South again. I share his birthdate with him and love his music!!

  • my favorite joe south song, and there are so many....

    maybe someday... huh??

but this music is personal to me, im very grateful to be able to hear it still....

  • I'm not sure about Billy Joe Royal's version, but I know Joe South got a fair amount of radio air play with it, at least in the K.C., Missouri markets. I will say it's never got the amount of oldies play it deserves. I'd like to eventually come up with a version of it, being a "struggling" performer/musician myself; & I'd love to at some point get the chance to jam with Mr. South. A musical hero since I was a kid. What a classic tune & 1 of my absolute all time faves! Mixes soul; country;& rock!

  • If I'm not mistaken, he wrote this for Billy Joe Royal. I don't think he had much national success with it. But, I really think Joe South does this better than anyone else I've heard sing it.

  • Thanks for thge comments! It's great having fans of Joe's music find their favorites.

Just to let you know, amazon(dot)com has a lot of Joe's music up for like 89 cent downloads.

Also, you can save a decent quality copy of these on youtube into .mp3 files with a nifty little free program called vixy (.net) you can download either the windows or Mac versions. You can also use the on-line converter but it's slower - and tends to be busy a lot of the time.

You just restart the program 4 each URL

  • Joe South wrote this song and IMHO has the best version...hands down. Thanks for posting.

  • Haven't heard this is at least 35 years...Thanks for posting..
