They are actually arowanas, arowana is simply the common name given to the Osteoglossinae family, this includes the Osteoglossinae sub-family, (silver aro, black aro, asian aro, and both Australian speacies) and the Heterotidinae sub-family (african aros, and Aropima gigus)
