No one should get root canals because they are linking them to cancer if the tooth is that bad get it pulled it will save you the trouble of getting it fixed ever 2months

I had one today. it is when you have a bad infection that it hurts. I felt some discomfort when they were drilling and got another sedation. Then i felt lika a needle stitch and got a third one. I still had some discomfort and aching but I could totally handle it. I am a bit sore now 8-9 hours later but it´s ok.
My question is: What about those times when saliva starts collecting/pooling in the mouth? It's obvious you can't just close your mouth to swallow it, or spit it like a real man because of the dam... Is there some kind of vacuum they have constantly running underneath the dam?
That's another thing I was wondering. Hopefully they do have those sucker thingies underneath to get rid of some of the saliva..otherwise I guess another fear would be drowning in my own spit, haha.
Root Cannals are my favorite when am assisting the dentist... We use a saliva ejector its like a straw its bendable and we bend it so it can grasp to your cheek and then with the big vacuum we get al the pieces of teeth that are coming out when the dentist are drilling in the tooth!!!!

the only bad thing about this is the begining where they fucking inject the injection to kill all the roots under ur teeth so that u wont feel any pain well it fucking feels so bad
Other than that it was surprisingly pain free and the orthodontist was really nice. He kept talking me through the procedure, making jokes and saying, "that's it, you're doing great, thank you for your help," etc. A really nice guy. When I saw him with a new tool in his hand I would nudge him and he'd tell me what it was and what he was gonna do with it, usually before I asked, uh nudged. All in all a pretty good experience.
Oh man! I remember that thin rubber sheet they put in your mouth. They slathered petroleum jelly all over my mouth and I was drooling behind the little sheet but I couldn't tell anyone. :( I had the constant scent of cookies but I only had a glass of orange juice that morning. It was ALMOST pain free. The little medicine they drop in there stings a bit when the procedure is done. And he touched my tooth with something ice cold (I hear its Nitro-g) to make sure it was numb - it was NOT.

Root Canal is painful but can be fixed without going to the dentist
An all white rice diet and home made calcium (calcium made from eggshells)
for 3 weeks can get rid of your root canal.
a diet with nothing but phosphorus and calcium is the answer to your problem.
Eat nothing but rice & calcium until cured and after it goes away avoid fruits,smoking and candy for a while as the bacteria isnt dead but in a small harmless quantity that can regrow if abused.

I work in an endodontics office, the procedures arent supposed to hurt! We dont often see patients who have neglected their teeth enough to let them decay far enough to reach the pulp of the teeth. A majority of our patients often need the procedure done from cracking their tooth hard enough to traumatize it. Im probably just repeating in different words what everyone else has said, but maybe hearing it from someone who works around the procedures daily will shed some light.
@randompanda89 It comes from lack of calcium, of course. Diet plays a major role. Half of the people I've known really don't eat enough calcium, or phosphate in their diets. Resulting in demineralization of teeth ( I.E. Tooth decay )

OK people I just got a root canal an hour ago. I was scared out of my mind and cried on the way there (such a baby) but I can honestly tell you that I didn't feel any pain at all. He even numbed my gum before he numbed it with a needle. It took 45 minutes and it is all done. PLEASE don't be afraid... seriously it's nothing and you'll be so happy when it's done!
@jeslovesanimals agreed if you have an abcessed tooth please take care of it before it possibles spreads under the gumline. RCT nowadays is fairly painless.
@caddygal2005 Some times it does really hurt. Not during it but for days after. Mine was done in 2 parts & I needed Percocet for days after each time. But, I'm really glad i had it done instead of an extraction. It's always best to save the tooth if possible. I had an extraction a while back, wish i would have had a root canal instead. I think it depends on what condition the roots/nerves/tooth is in. I had dental implants (major mouth surgery) & it hurt less than the root canal.
Totally normal, it's not the tooth that hurts; all the nerve tissue is gone - its the bones under the dentin that cradles the tooth that is hurting most likely.
I Got My 3rd & 4th Root Canal Done By A Dental Student With A Reference From Another Dentist ugh I Hate Not Having Insurance,And Im Pretty Sure He Left A Root Or Something In There Or Why Else Would It Keep Hurting? Oh And I Didnt Feel Any Pain Til He Literally Push The Damn Thing Into My Tooth :(

Honestly it's not bad if your insurance is good. Trust me when I say it's not bad. The shots are maybe the worst part but thats a over statement because the shots are MILD because of the gel that numbs the shot area so you dont feel it at all or just a lil bit. You'll be fine. I've had 3-4. If you need some advice send me a comment!
@jesladyonrock18 Know that you might be in pain before it but the needle n shots HELP the pain, There going to numb the back part near the jaw where the tooth is hurting, then around the tooth and maybe some inside, they'll give ya plenty of time to get numb before they drill and if ya still feel it when they start, stop them and get another shot. They'll open it up, clean out the cavity and nerves, file the nerves away then measure the length of the roots. Fill the roots n pack it up. Thats all
@jesladyonrock18 terran pretty much covered it he pretty much said the same exact thing my dentist said. I only had 1 root canal but personally i didnt think it was to bad at all. The worst part about the actully procedure is the prepping for the crown.
My (first) root canal treatment was this past friday. It was the upper row - fourth tooth. I was scared, that it might be painful but it wasn't anything compared to the pain I experienced the night before. The dentist gave me a good injection - I didn't feel the drilling -- only towards the end I felt a slight bit of pain -- nothing spectacular though.
I literally just got back from having a root canal 5 min ago. Trust me when I tell you that it's PAINLESS. It is like getting a cavity filled only it takes about 1 1/2hrs to do.
They numb you up really good and even the numbing shots don't hurt since they numb you with a gel beforehand.
I was very nervous thinking it was going to be painful and my fears were for nothing. If you need one get it! Otherwise the tooth goes bye bye and I wouldn't want a gap in my mouth.

@MostWantedWannaBE this is exactly what happened to me. She would try to numb, go back in and i get this jolt of EXTREME pain. This happened like 3 times before they finally got me numbed. I swear i wanted to punch my dentist in the throat after the second one.
@rockgod932 I know this was a year ago, but as a future dentist, I advise against that strongly from what I have learned. It would be a lot more sensible to have the painless procedure of a root canal and save the tooth.
Never let a dentist to use formaldehyde in a root canal. Don't assume they won't,ASK,even if you have used them for years. These dentists conceal use, even after harming someone. We didn't know to ask & now have life altering health consequences. We want to tell people what we wish someone had told us and that our dental community has been keeping under wraps for years. People, help me out! I have a gum boil at the back of my teeth which usually drained on its own. Last Friday my tooth hurt like hell and I had to get checked by my dentist and he said that I would need to have a root canal and I should start taking some antibiotics for it for a week before the root canal. I had one because my filling kept on coming out and the hole just ended up being too big, from a tiny one to a big one so they had to do root canal. It really doesn't hurt. The one thing that did hurt though, was when they solder your filling in. They stick some little needles in (That you dont feel one bit) but then they get some red hot thing and solder the metal, god, I was near enough crying. But not to panic, it's ok.
Had a root canal done yesterday, the 20th. Fairly simple, first three needles only pinch really, like a bee sting or less, then it's all numbbbb. When my dentist drilled out my tooth and got to the nerve I guess the nerve wasn't quite frozen so that was unconformtable but quickly fixed with more freezing. Start of needles to leaving the chair was 1 hour 15 min. Pain in the ass but is it what it is. Might need to go back for re-touching up on the metal filling stuff. kinda rough on my tongue.

I got a half of a root canal on my back tooth today. The procedure was very comfortable... I was floating on gas. My canal was so inflamed that they opened it up and put medication in it. It hurts like a son of a bitch two hours later. I'm waiting on my mepragan to get filled.

Dude, during its a 0.8 out of 10 on the pain scale. After its like 3-5 depending on how bad your tooth is. Mine was rotting in my mouth for like 4 years so after the procedure it was like an 11 but, I doubt yours is that bad. Don't let it scare you. That is why I waited so long, I scheduled it like two or three times and chickened out until recently I manned up and said FUCK IT! Its nothing bro, in fact, I got one done a few hours ago. This is my second this month and I still have another.

The actully root canal only takes like 15 20 mins max depending on the amount of roots the tooth has. The actully root canal is completely painless i mean if u could actully feel it you would be able to sit through it. Getting the crown is way worse then the actully root canal.
actuaally i got a root canal today and im laying in my bed right now awake in pain bc of that crap. they gave me as many shots as they could and it still was painful bc my tooth was so inflamed, i got into the room at 92- and lef the office around 1207, they only did two canals.
The actully filing and removing of the actully roots of the tooth take that long. The whole purcedure takes about an hour. Opening the tooth and numbing your tooth is longest part.
omfg...im only 13 and i got a root canal...after the shots wore off..i was crying so much i couldn't even breath...for real...i thought i was gonna have to go to the ER because i wasn't breathing right...wooo, im glad thats over!!

I'm having a root canal tonight, though really I would rather it pulled. I had a tooth pulled before, it never hurt me once.

I recently hd 2 rt canals through #3 and #5 gold 3 unit bridge, one acute process with advanced bone disease, TX prognosis is good but I hv had persistant headaches ...onset in the frontal, 10 hrs duration borderline incapacitated with nausea I went to the VA todayLOL. Im told the dental did it ,hard to believe,the trigeminal nerve has nothing to do with the frontal any help??

I work in an endodontics office, the procedures arent supposed to hurt! We dont often see patients who have neglected their teeth enough to let them decay far enough to reach the pulp of the teeth. A majority of our patients often need the procedure done from cracking their tooth hard enough to traumatize it. Im probably just repeating in different words what everyone else has said, but maybe hearing it from someone who works around the procedures daily will shed some light.

@randompanda89 It comes from lack of calcium, of course. Diet plays a major role. Half of the people I've known really don't eat enough calcium, or phosphate in their diets. Resulting in demineralization of teeth ( I.E. Tooth decay )

OK people I just got a root canal an hour ago. I was scared out of my mind and cried on the way there (such a baby) but I can honestly tell you that I didn't feel any pain at all. He even numbed my gum before he numbed it with a needle. It took 45 minutes and it is all done. PLEASE don't be afraid... seriously it's nothing and you'll be so happy when it's done!

@caddygal2005 Some times it does really hurt. Not during it but for days after. Mine was done in 2 parts & I needed Percocet for days after each time. But, I'm really glad i had it done instead of an extraction. It's always best to save the tooth if possible. I had an extraction a while back, wish i would have had a root canal instead. I think it depends on what condition the roots/nerves/tooth is in. I had dental implants (major mouth surgery) & it hurt less than the root canal.

Totally normal, it's not the tooth that hurts; all the nerve tissue is gone - its the bones under the dentin that cradles the tooth that is hurting most likely.

Honestly it's not bad if your insurance is good. Trust me when I say it's not bad. The shots are maybe the worst part but thats a over statement because the shots are MILD because of the gel that numbs the shot area so you dont feel it at all or just a lil bit. You'll be fine. I've had 3-4. If you need some advice send me a comment!

@jesladyonrock18 Know that you might be in pain before it but the needle n shots HELP the pain, There going to numb the back part near the jaw where the tooth is hurting, then around the tooth and maybe some inside, they'll give ya plenty of time to get numb before they drill and if ya still feel it when they start, stop them and get another shot. They'll open it up, clean out the cavity and nerves, file the nerves away then measure the length of the roots. Fill the roots n pack it up. Thats all

@jesladyonrock18 terran pretty much covered it he pretty much said the same exact thing my dentist said. I only had 1 root canal but personally i didnt think it was to bad at all. The worst part about the actully procedure is the prepping for the crown.

My (first) root canal treatment was this past friday. It was the upper row - fourth tooth. I was scared, that it might be painful but it wasn't anything compared to the pain I experienced the night before. The dentist gave me a good injection - I didn't feel the drilling -- only towards the end I felt a slight bit of pain -- nothing spectacular though.
Btw. I am/was terrified of dental treatments.

I literally just got back from having a root canal 5 min ago. Trust me when I tell you that it's PAINLESS. It is like getting a cavity filled only it takes about 1 1/2hrs to do.
They numb you up really good and even the numbing shots don't hurt since they numb you with a gel beforehand.
I was very nervous thinking it was going to be painful and my fears were for nothing. If you need one get it! Otherwise the tooth goes bye bye and I wouldn't want a gap in my mouth.

Never let a dentist to use formaldehyde in a root canal. Don't assume they won't,ASK,even if you have used them for years. These dentists conceal use, even after harming someone. We didn't know to ask & now have life altering health consequences. We want to tell people what we wish someone had told us and that our dental community has been keeping under wraps for years. People, help me out! I have a gum boil at the back of my teeth which usually drained on its own. Last Friday my tooth hurt like hell and I had to get checked by my dentist and he said that I would need to have a root canal and I should start taking some antibiotics for it for a week before the root canal. My appointment iis for the day after tomorrow and I am dreading it...! I do not want to go through this again!! Can I skip it in any way??

I had one because my filling kept on coming out and the hole just ended up being too big, from a tiny one to a big one so they had to do root canal. It really doesn't hurt. The one thing that did hurt though, was when they solder your filling in. They stick some little needles in (That you dont feel one bit) but then they get some red hot thing and solder the metal, god, I was near enough crying. But not to panic, it's ok.

Had a root canal done yesterday, the 20th. Fairly simple, first three needles only pinch really, like a bee sting or less, then it's all numbbbb. When my dentist drilled out my tooth and got to the nerve I guess the nerve wasn't quite frozen so that was unconformtable but quickly fixed with more freezing. Start of needles to leaving the chair was 1 hour 15 min. Pain in the ass but is it what it is. Might need to go back for re-touching up on the metal filling stuff. kinda rough on my tongue.

I'm 13 and I had root canal. Dont worry mate, it's ok. Close your eyes and clench everything you can for the injection, then just sit back and relax (well, just the lower part of your body!).

I got a half of a root canal on my back tooth today. The procedure was very comfortable... I was floating on gas. My canal was so inflamed that they opened it up and put medication in it. It hurts like a son of a bitch two hours later. I'm waiting on my mepragan to get filled.

i got my root canal today on my front tooth. and it didnt hurt at all and took for 15-20 mins i guess? they game me shot on my gum so i didnt feel anything during the operation. the pain, it depends on how ppl react to shots. shots dont work out for some ppl. i have had another root canal when i was little, it was so bad and shots didnt work out.

Dude, during its a 0.8 out of 10 on the pain scale. After its like 3-5 depending on how bad your tooth is. Mine was rotting in my mouth for like 4 years so after the procedure it was like an 11 but, I doubt yours is that bad. Don't let it scare you. That is why I waited so long, I scheduled it like two or three times and chickened out until recently I manned up and said FUCK IT! Its nothing bro, in fact, I got one done a few hours ago. This is my second this month and I still have another.

The actully root canal only takes like 15 20 mins max depending on the amount of roots the tooth has. The actully root canal is completely painless i mean if u could actully feel it you would be able to sit through it. Getting the crown is way worse then the actully root canal.

The actully filing and removing of the actully roots of the tooth take that long. The whole purcedure takes about an hour. Opening the tooth and numbing your tooth is longest part.
